I have serious concerns about the overall leadership and structure of this company. Based on my experience, the owner lacks the foundational understanding of effective business operations and professional workplace practices. Because the company was started at a very young age, there appears to be limited exposure to proper leadership, communication, and organizational management. Unfortunately, this often resulted in attempts to “improve productivity” through raised voices and intimidation rather than constructive guidance.

Employees were frequently assigned responsibilities far outside their roles and then criticized for not being able to keep up with their core duties. This created an environment of constant pressure, role confusion, and unreasonable expectations, where individuals were often expected to juggle multiple positions for the compensation of a single role.

Support systems were minimal. It was common to receive tasks with the phrase “let me know if you need help,” but when assistance was requested, the response was that everyone was “too stressed” to answer questions. This left me—and many others—without proper training, direction, or resources, making success extremely difficult.

Management was another challenge. Although the company technically has managers, their ability to lead was undermined by excessive micromanagement from the owner. During my short time there, I witnessed a high turnover in management positions, which speaks volumes about the internal instability.

Overall, the operation felt disorganized, reactive, and unsustainably structured. Based on my experience, significant leadership development and organizational improvements would be necessary for this company to provide a healthy and supportive work environment.

I used to work here during the summer as a preventative maintenance technician. It was good for lots of hours and overtime work. Working with pools and water features at various condos and apartments in the Greater Toronto Area was an interesting job. 

However, someone in this position is prone to being overworked. I often worked about 11 hour days (start at around 6:00 AM and get home at about 5:00 PM) with a sporadic on/off schedule. It would be something like 4 days on, 1 day off. Sometimes it was more days on before getting a day off. Things were bad at one point with scheduling, as other summer technicians were quitting rapidly, and I was scheduled 8 days in a row once, given that we were spread thin. I was falling asleep in my car driving back to the office because I had been working so much.

We also had no consistent scheduling. The schedule was ever-changing. You often would not know if you were working the next day until about 10 PM or even later on some occasions when management would send you your route. It was always safe to assume you were working the next day, no matter what, haha. 

We also had delivery drivers quit and we had to be responsible for delivering our own large batches of supplies to our sites. While it was doable, it was not an ideal situation. Deliveries of large amounts of chlorine jugs often ate into time a lot. Management did not do much to help us out with this. 

I don't know how much management has changed since I stopped working there. Hopefully things have changed for the better. It's a good job for lots of hours, but be warned as you may get overworked.

I couldn’t stand working for Service Plus Aquatics because of how toxic the work environment was and how rotten the work culture is. Right from the very start, I was expected to know how to do my job perfectly despite not being given any training, and whenever I messed up, instead of being given guidance and support, I was berated and insulted for being useless by the management. Employees' work-life balance was rough due to brutal workloads, unreasonable demands, long hours, etc., and the lack of support didn’t make things any easier. The work culture here rewarded employees for working long hours and stretching themselves thin, while being good at your job and finishing work early is heavily frowned upon. I’ve seen a lot of amazing people be ignored, or even punished with heavier workloads, at times, for being efficient, simply because they didn’t stretch their work for multiple hours. With how toxic the culture is and how stressful the work can be, it’s incredibly easy to burn out and be miserable, which is why I’m grateful I finally left, and I have never looked back since. Don’t make the same mistake I made by applying for a position here and stay away.

This company has recently fired many people for no reason, other than the reason that they simply can. Many people thought their job was secure and they were doing a great job, only to show up to work one day and get fired on the spot. This is also very counter-productive as they do not have enough employees without firing people. The employees who still have their job are expected to pick up the slack and put in many more hours of work just because of poor management. The company does not provide proper training for students; most of the time when asking detailed questions you will get a "just do whatever" kind of response or the trainer will not know the answer. The salary was good, but this company expects you to do your work absolutely perfectly without giving you enough time at on-site locations, as well as improper training. The disorganization of management within this company is unbelievable; there are never enough cars for the employees to take and the communication is horrible within management. I would recommend working for another pool company if possible.

	•	Management: Provides guidance and expects accountability while supporting the team’s priorities.
	•	Workplace culture: Professional, collaborative, and safety-focused, with a flexible and team-oriented environment.
	•	Hardest part of the job: Diagnosing complex or intermittent equipment problems under time pressure.
	•	Most enjoyable part of the job: Restoring systems to optimal operation and seeing tangible results from my work.

Dealing with the management at this company was consistently a hassle, making the workplace experience nothing short of insane. Their leadership style, or lack thereof, seemed to invite chaos, leaving employees struggling to navigate a landscape marred by inconsistency and complete disregard for best practices. Additionally, the lack of proper training is not only a disservice to the employees but also borders on being discriminatory, as it leaves them ill-equipped to perform their duties effectively. It's imperative for the leadership to reevaluate their approach and prioritize both the well-being of their employees and the integrity of their operations. 

From my time at SPA I have learned many skills, not just about pool maintenance but skills that can be applied to other jobs. There is lost of opportunities to move around in the company as you gets training is all the field of work they offer. 

The work is not for those who want to sit back and coast through the work. It requires a good amount of effort and patience, but the results are very rewarding. The work hours sometimes get on the higher side, but the pay compensates that fairly. 

In the years I have worked at spa I was given the opportunity to work my way up into a higher position. With that being said I put in the hours to do so and still do. The job is very rewarding and great place to be.

I would highly highly recommend avoiding working here. This company has an incredibly high turnover rate, and when you work there you quickly realize why. The work culture is horrid- more so due to owner/management; they are condescending, rude and bully staff. They consistently overwork their staff, and working overtime is a constant and unappreciated expectation. The amount of stress and gaslighting which occurred here was astonishing. The pay was decent, but that is the only redeeming quality offered. Please avoid working here if you can. I left after a small time because this place genuinely made me that depressed.

It amazes me this company has been able to stay in business as long as they have. I’ve never seen such an unorganized and toxic work place in all my life. I worked here for 4 long years and it was the worst 4 years of my professional life. You are expected to work ridiculous hours, especially during their “blackout” periods. The management is incompetent to the point it’s actually hilarious. It wouldn’t be so bad if they weren’t all extremely toxic people. Going in to that office every day was a dour experience, you could just tell nobody was happy there. Do not work here, it is not worth it. Leaving was the best decision I ever made, I just wish I had made it sooner.

Finishing the day an actually leave people who think your stupid..because most of the people there won’t give you chance too show yourself an what you can do..they were never interested in what you can do

The people..work is work but the people make the job..they don’t have any

Garbage they think they do..but they don’t

Never wanted too go in too work because you new you were gonna be treated like garbage …ended up going too work keep your mouth shut not aloud too do anything unless your told
