Two of the upper management at Park Royal need to be removed. They are ruining the morale of staff and it will be an endless cycle of people leaving. The other Simons locations in Quebec retain staff but not here and this is due to the poor internal management. It is a culture of bullying, mean girls club, intimidation and harassment as the two upper management at this location are very insecure and will openly run you down and others to make themselves look better.

One individual in management sent naked photos of herself to male stock team members and that was overlooked by management and deemed not happening. If a male employee had done this he would have been terminated but as the two in upper management are friends so it was covered up

Same manager let staff she liked text her personally and let them come in late for shifts without penalty. This individual feels very threatened by anyone who perhaps might know more than she does. Instead of using her staff's experience and knowledge to her benefit, she felt threatened and would put you down. Numerous comments by associates in store that if you did not follow her Instagram account she would make life at work impossible for you. It was a basically Mean Girls situation and these people are in their mid-thirties!!!!

Same individual would often make open racist comments to staff on regular basis. Many people complained about this individuals comments but complaints were filtered and shut down at the store level. The store has not had its own HR in place for years so if you wanted to file a complaint it had to go through another manager who is an ally of this individual. A few people did complain and it was supposed to be anonymous, but very soon after their complaints their lives were made difficult by these two individuals, so other staff took notice and did not complain, and kept their moves shut. Staff live in fear here.

These two individuals looked after one another as they both seemed incompetent and were protecting their jobs. Both had been let go from previous employments for same types of behavior of bullying etc. and am wondering if Simons did reference check on them? Both had commented to me they hated talking to people and that I connected well with people and was far more personable than they were. They both lacked social skills and empathy. I am wondering how they got into management roles as dealing with people is at the core of the job and these two have limited social skills when dealing with people.

Only individuals that would get promoted at this location were people who had no personality or thoughts or would pose a possible threat, as these two individuals obviously wanted to mold people to behave like them and perpetuate a bullying culture they had created and wanted to maintain. It was mentioned throughout the store that one of the new managers who was promoted was asked to write staff up to prove she could be "tough". it was an initiation of sorts to see if she would fit in with the culture of these two individuals and their mean girls club.

The entire store lived in fear of the two individuals and one of them would threaten to "get rid of you" regularly if you did not agree with her. She did not like people , especially other women, but if you were a young attractive straight male then she liked you. If she could not push you around then she would make your job difficult. She had a bias towards employees older than herself and felt need to exert control all the time. If you were having a conversation with another team member she would often walk by and say ‘’what are you talking about? Are you talking about me”? She was aware staff disliked her and was paranoid. New staff in my department started at the store and quit fairly quickly working under her. They left citing she was a bully to management but again nothing was done and she was protected.

The security cameras are not used to monitor theft but to monitor staff. The same two individuals would sit in the security office for hours on end and watch other staff looking for them doing something wrong. Big brother is watching you! Also no cell phone policy at the store but apparently this did not apply to security staff and management as they were always texting and using their phones in the office.

At one point one of these individuals who supervised others had her personal Instagram set to open viewing and she often shared revealing photos of herself in limited clothing. Not professional for a senior member of staff or a role model for young women working in the store to post revealing photos of herself on Instagram.

Simons is a at the forefront of fashion but one senior staff seemed to have no grasp of fashion. She dressed frumpy and looked unkempt most of the time and did not project a fashionable image.

The store management did not lead or inspire as managers should, but instead bullied and harassed others to make themselves appear superior. I can only wonder what happened in these two individuals lives to make them treat others in such an awful fashion. People don’t quit jobs they quit managers and this is the case at this location.

I believe the Simons family would be appalled to know what actually goes on at this location. When head office does visit the store, the two individuals are on their very best behavior and would pretend to be personable and your friend in front of them. They are great actresses. Meanwhile my boss would go days without speaking to me or acknowledging my presence on a regular basis.

This is a typical retail job where the company will try to exploit you for as much as they possibly can without giving anything in return. I worked there for over three years, and even though I was an excellent and reliable worker, the way they treated me just continued to go downhill. In the end, the nail in the coffin was how they were consistently scheduling me to work all day without any break. I often felt like I was going to pass out on the floor, but my concerns were not addressed. They would schedule me to work at from 11am to 4:45pm so that I was 15 minutes short of being entitled to a break. I would only get to eat breakfast and dinner on those days. They knew that I did not live close to the store but continued to give me shifts like that knowing that I could not eat. The culture at the store was also quite toxic unfortunately. Employees and managers were quite rude and gossip was rampant. Managers who had nothing better to do frequently went on power trips and would scold employees for the smallest of mistakes. I never felt comfortable or secure in my job as managers often spied on employees in the security office and would then question you if they thought it looked like you weren't doing anything. The job truly was not enjoyable at all. I frequently endured abuse from customers (as can be expected in retail) and managers would never stick up for you. Even after the fact, managers would always be quick to assume that you were the one who caused the customer to become upset and they would question what you as the employee could have done to prevent an incident. It was truly depressing and demoralizing. During the few years I was there, Simons became more and more demanding of my availability even as a part-time worker. They honestly expected your job to be your number one priority even if you were a student. During my last year of uni I had to get special permission to not work Friday nights even though Fridays had not been mandatory in years prior. I had a legitimate reason because of school and it was still quite the debacle. Even after I got this special permission, they tried to force me into working on Black Friday. Despite all this, I would say that Simons is one of the better places to work knowing how awful retail can be. But if you can, I would avoid working here at all costs.

I worked at Simons for two years, first year as FT and second year as PT b/c I was in Uni. It was my first FT job out of high school and it was good because most of my coworkers were around my age. HOWEVER, you were not allowed to talk to others, or stand in one spot for more than 30 seconds; your attention had to be on the customers (even though it was pretty slow most days with a couple of customers here and there) so most days were spent acting like you took an oath of silence. Management was what you would expect for a large department store - a bunch of 20-40 year olds thinking they have complete reign on what you do and how you do it. As a FT sales associate you are expected to remerchandise the department, which was fun because you got some creative liberty with how you style things (while trying to satisfy the departments demographic of course), BUT then management would come along and make you redo it even though as the FT, you see what people are buying and how they style things. If you need help with the department, management will put someone in your department but you're basically not allowed to talk to them unless it's "put that shirt there, and that pant there". Management was also kind of discriminatory to some customers of colour (the store is close to a lot of low income housing) and I found that even my regular customers were being hawk-eyed from management (Even though there is a security team to do that).

Also should mention, a few of my friends were hired as permanent full-time/short-time, and after the holidays they were laid off and told they were actually hired as seasonal. Came out of no where.

Simons is actually the reason why I went to Uni, because I realized that I didn't want to work a job like that for the rest of my life lol.

 If I could give this company a 0, I would. I worked for Simons as a web customer service agent. Management sucks and is very clicky. Management only supports the workers to whom they are close and will disregard all other employees. The high turnover rate within the web department field speaks for itself. Within the short time frame that I worked there, six people quit, and seven, including myself. The remaining individuals are now looking for a way out; they only have 15 agents (7/15). If you want to give your life to a company that truly does not care about you, please apply to work for the web customer service department. Please note that the office smells horrifically bad due to individuals’ poor hygiene, 0 ventilation, no AC at all, and terrible lighting. The office is barely an office as it is in the basement of Londonderry Mall without windows. You will feel like a lab rat; enjoy. 

The pay is good for bare minimum work, which keeps some people there (for now).


The job is a typical retail experience, with a high turn over rate & micro managing all at the top. PT availability is 5 days a week currently, witth priority on closing shifts. So beware if you're a uni student + extracurricular commitments. The part time worker minimum is 8 hours a week, getting anything above 12 for PT during school season feels like a blessing. And management is stingy with giving an increase with hours. Promotions are very random and seldom happen, but they're promised if asked about in interview. Job culture is average, many colleagues are student aged so they prioritize fraternizing together over productivity. If hired, please then expect to handle the cash area, fitting rooms, keeping your department tidy, & doing putbacks all by yourself if there even happens to be another person working with you. Nonetheless, Simons started off a decent work environment but with drastic changes in management , it's not pleasant. 

I worked at the new store that opened in Fairview Point Claire, my experience was terrible with management. Every sales associate was looked down on and management had favorites. Management would also have little "cliques" that would make other managers feel uncomfortable around them. This "clique" would talk to each other on the floor all the time socially however when the sales associate talked to each other, when there were no customers, we would get consequences. Many members of management did not get to know its sales associates at all, they would give other people more shifts just because "they liked them more", even when people were sometimes getting 8 hours a week and they favorites were getting 20+ hours and still getting more. Many people have asked me personally if working at Simons is a good idea and I have said no every single time. 

Simon's was a great place to work, it seems to me that they definitely prefer to hire based on personality rather than experience and are really just looking for kind, competent, customer friendly people. I had a few issues with management, but nothing too bad that would make me not reccomend someone to work here. Short time hours (25 hours a week) can mean that your schedule is very inconsistent and they may place you in multiple departments, but it wasn't an issue for me. Dress code however is very strict, men are always required to wear suits and women must wear blazers with pants, and are always required to be wearing nylons unless absolutely none of your leg is showing, it's definitely a more formal environment. But overall, the other staff and the environment made it a very good place to work.

Everyone is nice and helpful. Never got to work in  a store where everyone is approachable. Management puts effort in celebrating holidays by mini-contests with prizes, food, small gifts. Working there emphasizes being nice, helpful, and knowledgeable to provide great customer service unlike other stores that are very focused on sales and conversion. Didn't like not being able to take ANY time off (even for a day) between Black Friday and New Year's day, it made it very difficult for work-life balance during holiday season. Getting scheduled for shifts outside of availability once fall classes are done is also hard. Would have stayed longer if it wasn't for the holiday period rules. 

Worked there for one week, the management are very unprofessional. If you’re looking somewhere to work for a long term I highly wouldn’t advice to apply there, since they hire everyone, than fire them by the end of the month of December. Indeed some employee are really rude and not pleasing to work with. Also If you don’t like standing for a long time I wouldn’t as well suggest to work there. Finally I worked in a different company which is in competition with them and I can tell you it’s less toxic. Finally they don’t really care about the employee, more likely about themselves. So whatever they tell you that we want to make sure every employee is treated rightly they’re lying to your face. Indeed some of them are really incompetent in their own work. Too many mistakes and they blame it on the employees. The only good thing was the salary but not worth working there. 

I worked at the WEM Simons for just over a year. The friends I made at work were pretty much the only thing that got me through each shift. Management is hit and miss, depending on their moods on the day. You could be friendly with them one day, and the next day, they will confront you in front of customers just because you were standing still for 30 seconds. Working this job also made me feel like I was in High School again. Non-stop drama being spread, especially from the managers. Extremely sad and ineffective micromanagement. The job is relatively easy, and majority of customers are good. The pay is alright but you definitely can’t live off of it. Try and make friends with other employees and try to stay away from drama (nearly impossible). If you are looking to work here, good luck and good luck trying to get days off approved!
