Stratford-Festival

I was hired on contract at the Festival in October 2018 and was hired on permanently in March of 2019. I instantly felt at home at the Festival - every person in every department that I came across made me feel welcome and part of the team. There is a wonderful, creative energy around the whole place, even on it's most stressful days. 

My position was terminated due to the Covid-19 pandemic (as theatres were hit so very hard by all of this). Hopefully I will have the opportunity to join the Festival team again one day, as it truly was the best working experience of my life.

Mostly it's the people.  Lots of talented people who want to be there.  Amazing props and devices everywhere.  Bigger-than-life actors in costume backstage and in the Green Room create a fantasy feeling.  Excellent food and coffee in the Green Room and decent prices. 
My job allowed me to move freely throughout the buildings and to see everything that goes into the making of Stratford Festival plays.
If you love music and theatre it doesn't get better than this.

It's hard work for sure, but it's also very gratifying. They keep you on your toes but they also ensure you have all the opportunities to learn (sometimes through self assessment), improve, and advance to the next level. The environment is full of fellow artists and that translates into a culture that is lovely to be a part of. Also, the Festival Theatre overlooks Lake Victoria which kind of has a river vibe and Upper Queens Park which is a huge beautiful park with very tall mature 100 or more yr. old trees. So far I feel like I've found 'my people'.

working at the stratford festival is very fun! great perks complimentary tickets to shows, discounted food and gift shop items, the staff have mostly been there for a while and are very helpful with all the different positions you have to learn! i have a very good house manager she’s very efficient i wish she had a co manager or an assistant she does so much for us !

Lots of hard physical work, frolic and fun

clear expectation and guidelines. Coaching support for success. helpful supervisors. most difficult part of the job for me was actually surviving a no answer. but the most enjoyable part of the job was getting a yes answer.
co-worker were ok. everyone did their jobs. I learned not to take the answers personally.

This is a great company to work for. They foster a positive environment and genuinely take care of employees. The one and only issue is that there is a lot of upper management, which means the chain of command is long and it can take a while to get answers or changes. All things considered this is an amazing company to work for. 

Extraordinarily energetic efforts by staff to meet marketing plans. Exciting annual playbill to market and promote. Job work and life balance can be challenging.

i found my time pretty wasted, the business agent controlled who worked in the shop, it was seniority based and hard to get stable work. i enjoyed the work, but it was a bit demoralizing because of some of the  attitude towards younger members within the union.

Working for the Stratford Festival was a wonderful experience. All of the different areas of work that you get to be a part of continue to help you grow. People work hard at the Festival and it was nice to be a part of a group of people that continually pushed each other to be better.
