I only worked at this location for a year and after a month or 2 you learn all their dirty little secrets. i worked at the niagara falls location which is in a dead mall with not nearly as much foot traffic compared to st catharines or niagara on the lake malls but higher management would always complain to us saying we aren't meeting our goals when in the winter time only 1-20 people would come in for the 12 hours that we are open. I barely got any training and was just thrown on to the floor but i picked up on things pretty fast because I've worked for years in retail before and know how it works. The manager at the store (no longer employed) committed time fraud every shift and upper management did nothing about it . she would take unpaid products out of the store to show her friends at other stores if they wanted to buy them or not.

No one ever cleaned up the store only the NEW people we forced to clean and organize the store. Both mangers were LAZY and would sit in the back and play on their phones, They would leave the building during hours they are supposed to work to go to a 1-3 hour nail or hair appointment and we were to be kept quiet. They would book multiple days off in a month to go to nails and hair appointments but when people needed it off for a funeral or personal family things they would get angry and deny them the time off and say we are better and get everything first.

I have been forced to pick up the mangers shifts that she didn't want to show up to but would lie on payroll and say the she worked those hours and we would go over hours for that week because she did that. you got no extra pay for moving up in positions other than an assistant manger got $14.25 only a 25 cent raise which is TERRIBLE!!! I did submit a letter into head office but they never got back to me and did nothing about it.

I have done multiple 12 hour shifts because the managers didnt feel like continuing the rest of their shift and would make me do it for them. I was very under paid for the amount of work i did. The manger would constantly open my pay checks and say "oh i didn't know it was yours" even though my name is clearly on it in large bold letters. i went for 12 hours with NO BREAK because i was the only one working and if i tried asking for the mangers to come in for a few hours so i can sit for my breaks they said no that they had better things to do.

When it comes to upper management they are the worst and so unorganized and i don't know how the company is still able to run their business. Upper management accused me of not making the high sales i made because i was "new" and i shouldn't have been making the high sales i was, but when you are the only one on the floor for 8-12 hours a day it adds up. 

There is a whole lot more i could say about this location and company but it would turn into a novel of complaints that never got resolved and brushed off the shoulder.

My typical day at work is very Interesting and not tiring; I find working very beneficial towards my career job that meets my goals. Working is my passion; Which is due to my past experiences. I always loved and enjoyed working all my life; I find that Working, Being successful towards the company which I am hired through makes me feel Independent and Confident that meets my standards.

I learned a lot about Customer service skills with my past expreinces as a volunteer and Hired through the company. Those expreinces thought me a lot of knowledge; How talk to a customer, Provide knowledge about the products,Being very polite to the customers needs And also to handle bad situations with customers.

Management to me is Making sure the store is good at all times, Handling to customers needs, Good communication skills required, Knowledgeable about products, Making sure the company is making the finical needs, Attending to your employees schedules and making sure there work is professional all times and most importantly Punctual and a quick learner towards the companies standards.

Co-workers to me is the best part of the job because you learn how to meet different people. I find that working as a team in a company will bring its higher position in the market. Also you learn to make new friends to build your communicational skills. Makes you more social and very pleasant.

I find the hardest part of the job is nothing because I loved working at all times in my past experiences. I think working is one of my goals for the future. Its always a better feeling to me even if it's hard; I stay dedicated to my work life. A job which I always liked trying my best in anything, Willing to learn new things, Never giving up that's My Passion and My goals towards my future. Staying focused with my work life, Future needs which I love being Independent.

The most enjoyable part of the job is working towards a Team; Helps me build my skills, Staying dedicated to my job, Meeting new customers everyday that brings more knowledge about different Information with the world, Getting know people, Knowledge about business standards and helping customers with their needs.

This was my first retail job and it gave me a sense what I wanted to do in life. There was lots of wonderful women around me who believed in me and gave me job opportunity's to move up quite soon from a sales associate. I was then responsible for one store in Edmontons visual branding standards and inventory. After my store was immaculate and the increasing numbers were consistent, allocations fine tuned, I was offered as help at the other Edmonton stores. As visual support of planograms, to implement a markdown to drive sales that week. Whatever it was, I was happy to go to the store and leave it set for success and the employees feeling empowered. I knew I was a true brand ambassador and it was so important to me that everyone felt my passion from store visits and ran with the insight and fresh eyes I could give.

 I soon found out I was waking up and going to my dream job everyday, making the fire grow. Thinking about store floor plans morning, afternoon, nighttime. It was so rewarding to feel like I wasn't working everyday and to make such a big impact in stores and employee growth. Merchandising just made sense to me. I could do it while helping people personal shop, or making small talk. I just became a retail fairy in my given environment and it was liberating! Even customers gave me confidence in their feedback to me personally and what I was doing around them.

Eventually I was being flown to head office in Toronto to work with the true eyes and passion of their visual team once or twice a year during launch season. So I could implement here in Edmonton and higher volume stores in western Canada. I felt so honored, it still brings tears to my eyes. It is so important for companies to recognize there are very special people who care so much about what they do. Suzy Shier is a company that invests in its people. There are many gems who have been hard rocks for many years within the company simply because of the good culture! Thanks Suzy.

This was the start of my merchandising career!

your typical day You have 1 hour in the morning usually by your self to vacuum, mop, dust, visual display's, and get the store ready for your opening, next employee usually comes in at around noon, so you have about 2-3 hours to help customers, finish task lists, and sometimes shipping and receiving and mark downs, once this employee comes in there is usually putaways (depends how busy the store was in the morning) and the first employee goes for a break, in the afternoon before the evening employee comes in you need to work together to follow displays and quickly get product on the floor for selling, attend to customer's and that is change room's, floor help, and transactions. manager needs to make a list for the evening employee's to follow.

They teach you about fashion and how to make display's, they teach you about customer service and couch you on there guest card and give little incentives to get you to reach your goals.

Working for Suzy Shier INC was a great and busy place to work. Being located in the core of Calgary's Downtown you get alot of business ladies that know what they need and have a little time to do it. So, I had to make sure that I gave each lady an one on one personal shopping experience. As in making sure that each customer knows about daily promotions and sales, also calling different stores for curatin garmnents for the customer's needs. My role in Suzy Shier was a Keyholder. That means I had the responsiblites to make sure either the tills are open and close for the day. Gave hourly emails to head office about sales cmpared to last years and goals. Also, when the managers are not in the store I would be in charge of 3 girls. Making sure they are helping customers and making sure we can hot target goal. In the time I worked at Suzy Shier They went through many managers for unknown reasons. But I have met people from head office also other mangers across Canada and they were sweet and very enjoyable to work for. I enjoyed working for suzy Shier and with all employees. The hardest part of the job is trying not to spend my cheque on clothes the only thing.

I was lied to about hours and schedule during the interview, and I was only offered minimum wage for a Store Manager position with abysmal bonuses maxing at $100 per month at my location. The breaks are 1 hour in length for an 8-hour shift and you can't split the break up (not good for smokers or snackers), meaning you are on-location for 9 hour work days but only getting paid for 8 hours. Add in the mandatory bag checks every time you leave the store, (I was once forced to wait up to a half hour for someone to check my bag after my shift, unpaid because you have to clock out before the bag check), and the commute, it makes the entire day a write-off if you have a shift. You will wake up, get ready for work, work, go home, eat and sleep. They don't allow you to have your two days off together either, Sundays and Wednesdays only for managers.  However, if you're looking for a simple sales position this is the perfect place to coast without ever getting reprimanded for poor performance or promoted for good performance.

Every day is a challenge, we strive to make our goals, earn prestige members, recommend costumers to take 5% of range, and sell more clothes for the sales. There are so many things I've learned and is still learning from this place. One of them are patience, perseverance and communication. Because Suzy Shier mostly attracts office ladies, we need to act accordingly. Despite my age, I have learn to be mature and calmly solve any problems. The harder part is their management. They're too articulate particularly with small details. Strict and stressful, which affects our work environment. My co workers are amazing, only I was unfortunate to start at a place where there were too many dramas, reason why I transferred to another store. Although I've learn quite a lot. Now that they changed the employees of this certain work place, it is a lot better to breath. The most enjoyable part of this job is that you get to communicate with professional ladies thus, widen up my directions. Great opportunity if you are determined, learning fashion trends and visual management.

Co-workers were enjoyable to work with, the energy was always good which made the day go by faster. Changing the store around and getting new product daily was always exciting. Love the fashion and the variety of customers.

The pay could be better, especially since I was left alone to run a store even though I was not properly trained. There was a lot of pressure to sell memberships, most people were already members and some were not interested, that is no fault of the employee if they can not sell enough cards. People visiting from head office, I often found that we were judged based on once in a while visits. They were always looking for something wrong or to improve, even though it was one visit, that is not enough to judge or know each employee and the operation of the store. Plus some good feed back and encouragement could improve staff. I felt like a number, that if someone or someones from head office did not like me personally I would lose my job, which I did.

A typical day included customer service, retail sales, organizing, recommending, suggesting, stocking, inventory, and minor cleaning tasks. 

I learned a lot about visual merchandising and poster setting.

Management was lacking in the sense that there was constantly need for staff as we couldn't hold on to anyone. This made it difficult for current staff as we were always called in and schedules changed constantly.

Co-workers were excellent and flexible.

The hardest part of the job was the lack of consistency with the schedule and the terrible retention we faced. The near minimal pay and lack of hours to go 'round made it difficult for the staff who worked hard, wanted to move up, and were successful employees.

The best, or most enjoyable part of my job was the staff and the customers. I love interacting with people. I was always grateful that I was able to secure at least 32 hours, but this wasn't the case for the majority of staff.

A typical day at work would be talking to the customers, helping them with any outfit they needed me to show them or give a fashion advice. 
 I learned to deal with hectic customers, days when it would get crazy busy. Learned to multitask, and dedicated my full attention to the customers. 
Even though I haven't been a manager, to know how to manage a team environment. I would still help out my co-workers in whatever they needed, example I would help train the new employees. 
The workplace culture was great, each one of us has a culture, and we would share it, not just with each other but with in the customers, example we would have to translate to the customers and that was great of help.
The hardest part was in the holidays, since we had more customers than usual, but that helps us out in the way we see it. To see truly how well we would help out the customers. 
The most enjoyable part of the job was, to see the happy expression on the customers, seeing that we succeeded on what they were looking for or even better something they didn't expected.
