I worked for Trans in Brampton location which they say is closing in a few years out.
It is a very loud dirty fast passed and hard to learn job that should be in college and was for years the only reason it isnt now is the fact the manufacturing jobs are fading fast.
You work with heavy fast moving and very unforgiving machines all of which you must learn how to use with little help from anyone else there as they are all busy trying to keep their own equipment running so the press can run.
This job is one of the worlds dirtiest jobs and was even on the show on discovery with Mike rowe.
The old timers there who have to be there as they are not qualified to work anywhere else are totally unprofessional, who like to try to intimidate new workers to keep them from becoming a threat to their jobs.
The threat of violence is always present with these old guys and no one should have to deal with that anywhere.
The guys on the floor can be hit and miss as far as attitudes so it is difficult finding people you will work well with for the 12 hours your there.
Honestly you get treated like garbage there its just a matter if you can or how much you can tolerate.
There is no way to advance around the old men who are all waiting on spots so be prepared to stay a jogger for at least 5-7 years before you advance if at all.
I left this place and the only thing I miss is the 6 days off in a row and the pay.

A typical day starts with normal safety boots (personal) and ear plugs (provided). If you are with the company at the right time, you can get personalized ear plugs that do a much better job than the disposable that is offered. Your shift starts as soon as you are on the floor and you just take over from the last 12 hour shift. The presses go non-stop until something breaks. Then it is usually a scramble to rig something up to make the press work again. Cleaning of the area is required on every shift, but since the press never stops, this is an impossible task. The higher on the ladder, the less is done. This is fine if you are on the top, but the lowest on the ladder are constantly asked why things are not done. Meanwhile, the middle persons are sitting around waiting for something to break so they have something to do. Just a thought: get them to do the things that the lower persons don't have time to do because the press is running. Lots of cursing (but you would too if you caught your hand in one of the machines), no contact to outside world (like a radio or a window) unless you bring in your own radio, but since it is so noisy, good luck hearing it. No headphones because that is not safe around the machinery.. I can understand that. Also, headphones do not protect your ears from the noise, so it is good that this is disallowed. The best thing about the job was that you just did your job and went home with little interaction unless needed.. as long as the press is running the way it is supposed to.

This company is broken in so many ways.  Every group/department acts as its own sub-company (each VP has its own P&L) and there is absolutely no synnergy between locations and groups, on the contrary.  Group executives fight each other, there is a whole culture of distrust and politics which go from the SVP all the way down to VP, directors and managers.  Even developers get to experience the fun of that.

In terms of vision, this company has an unclear vision and long-term objectives, and every project is rated on the short-term, with no regards to longer term strategies.  A huge lack in communication, on every level, amplifies the long term vision problems and creates tactical and short term mishaps.  The most used word at TC is "alignment" and it's a clear reflexion of that lack of vision and communication.

In terms of group leaderships, there are huge differences between a VP and another, between a P&L and another, and between the group's employees' strenghts and weaknesses, so your mileage will vary.

There is aboslutely no job security in this company, and it seems to go against all the latest digital trends, opportunities and threats.  Right now, momentum seems to be in the Toronto offices, and Montreal's losing staff like the Titanic (both from voluntary departures and restructurations).

Fastest moving company I ever worked for.... good and bad. The industry is changing, this company is knee deep transforming itself, adjusting to the market and many are affected or given opportunities by the change management activities.

Only the strong will survive and a great learning experience for those who can keep up with the pace. No shortage of great ideas from passionate people with forward thinking, support from the business for new ventures but at the end of the day expectations are high to succeed and follow through & ROI are key as it is a business with fiscal responsibilities. 

For those who are complaining, welcome to the reality check that was long over due. The days of a sleeping giant, that could coast and sit back are over. Employees must be solution oriented and not just good at meeting over committed deadlines.

This is the place if you like solving true business challenges, transforming legacy environments, delicately balancing cultural differences and delivering new offerings all at the same time. Its not for everyone, but if there was a place for learned lessons from the "school of hard knocks" this would be it.

I worked in 3 different offices for this company. Every office, every department has a different way of working. My first experience was with weblocal.ca. The atmosphere was exciting and fulfilling. Our group was young and ready to learn and help each other and grow with our strengths. We were a close-knit group and celebrated every milestone together. I was very proud of the company I represented and woke up every single morning looking forward to going into work.

My second experience was within the newspaper group. It was a more slow pace environment. My coworkers were an older generation and a bit more skeptical about the internet and the future. Getting the work done was quite the challenge, but having everybody's support was rewarding.

My third experience was in an office of over 300 employees. My desk is in an area with 100 people and we all have to be quiet. Its a total different atmosphere! Everybody does their work and thats it.

Overall, this company gives you that sense of being a family. The relationship you have with your co-workers always go a bit beyond work. Everybody cares about you and that is always very appreciated!

A Typical Day:
-Worked with Upper Management to create and maintain financial performance excel files
-Prepare for month end, maintain fixed assets, prepare journal entries, perform financial analysis on financial statements
-Maintain overtime file, temporary labour file, waste analysis, and gross sales
-I learned how to incorporate upper managements demands while maintaining accounting principles and procedures
-I really enjoy working with my coworkers in an open office environment
-Co-workers are friendly, easy to get along with, always willing to help
-hardest part of my job is getting everyone to cooperate to gather financial data, but I have learned the right communication tools to help me maximize date gathering
-most enjoyable part of my job is the atmosphere and environment; it is very open management based, and management is very flexible and trusts their employees

What is the best part of working at the company?
Plenty of raises and bonus opportunities. Paid education was a big plus. Room for advancement with a large company. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Understaffed throughout the plant and production workers are overworked with little to know help. Entry level employees are given little training and expected to run million dollar equipment. The equipment is very technical and requires a skills set and and great understanding of the products that are made. No 2 are alike. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
There are some challenges between production and staff. A lack of understanding on both sides. There are attempts to bring both sides together but for the most part these are scene as bandages and insincere 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Typically arrived early , met with maintenance and other staff through the day. It could be quite busy at times true to manufacturing issues or operational problems.

This is a very dishonest company to begin with. 
You’ll be promised “29/hr” but you’ll never get it. 
You can spend years slugging away, showing up every day, and when the poly extruder goes down, Good luck bud.
I’ve have more days than I can count not receiving a break for a 12 hour shift. 
After 6 hours straight, supervisor says “go run to the washroom, freshen up, I’ll cover you for 10mins. 

You can bust your back for years and this company will promise you the world. 
This place is run very lean, so expect many responsibilities to be placed on you, even without the added pay. 

This place to be honest is a perfect place for a “bridge job”, this will do while you look for something better. 
And seriously, each and every one of you deserves better. 

Get in, make your money, move on to better and brighter opportunities. All I can suggest is you don’t make the same mistake as me, and move on to something better asap.

This company has a historic well documented
take over of smaller companies followed by massive layoffs. They care about increasing profit margin by
aggressive take over tactics that excludes employee
security or future. Be prepared for phony job reviews
revolving door strategies from existing middle managers
and a culture of protectionism. Communication and transparency are non existent employees are frequently let go without cause. Jobs are labeled redundant so they can justify letting people go .....and a few days later re hire for the same position for less money or to move a full time position to part time and avoid paying benefits.
There are additionally managers from other locations who are moved when their own branches are closed to arbitrarily take a position from another unsuspecting employee in a surviving branch ....it's all so medieval
and draconian in it's approach. My honest appraisal is that you should not work for this company it is in decline.

I coordinated the Retail and PartSource Flyer making sure all change s were done correctly from a product list until final is approved and shipped to the printer.  
Communicate with client to garther any missing information and resolve any issues as they occur on project.
Proof all finals before shipped to the Client and printer making sure all changes we done as requested.
Order and follow up with client on missing merchandise giving direction on how product should be shot 
Assist on creative for the GrandOpening and PartSource flyers if needed.
Attend meetings with Client on projects.
Invoice client and bill GrandOpening and PartSource flyers as per written contract
Upload final files to the Printer and resolve any queries from the Printer.
Worked overtime and on weekends if necessary to make sure the job get done 
Assist co-workers if there are any slow period.
