Working with the Toronto Community Housing was an unforgettable job experience. The management was amazing, very organised and friendly, my co-workers where people that I met during the program and others that I knew growing up. A typical day at work would start at 8:30 cleaning one building including the parking lot, have lunch around 11:00 am - 12:00 pm clean the second building, do some little pick up outside and finish around 4:30 pm. The hardest part about the job has to be working outside under high temperatures but the most enjoyable part was being confident that the environment would be kept clean by the time we finished our work.  What I've learned working with TCHC this summer is teamwork and communication, it is important to learning how to communicate with others so that you could get to know them and feel more comfortable around your team and your work environment.

Pay and benefits were more than fair.  
Would reimburse you for completed training courses you took.
Some communities the tenants were superb and community oriented.
Very little support from senior management for tenant disputes and basically left the building superintendent to try to sort out.
Often left alone to bear the brunt of angry/violent tenants in these buildings creating a sense of dread and ongoing anxiety and only response from management was to call an outside employee support company.


- BAS alarm acknowledged and monitoring 
-Analyze energy consumption pattern per building
-Providing remote support to the site super or building operators to resolve automation system is in proper operational
-Checked remote connectivity for BAS network systems
-Maintained good record for the whole energy team and future analysis

Keeping a balance between neighbours of different cultures and maintaining a rapport with each tenant and representing their issues to the head office.

TCHC was my first job at my raw age of 13. Salaries were a bit more than minimum wage but the shifts were about 2 hours for 3 days a week… which eventually turned into 5 days a month. It was really really fun though! 

I enjoyed my working here as through that I have come to be a child and youth worker. I learn so much from this  field. Knowing how to deal with children and youth. How to plan recreational activities to suit the needs of the children.

Great working environment.
Management was serious but kind.
Most enjoyable part would be playing fun games with the children.
Hardest part was finding activities to do.

Being apart of this company is to be at the hight of your career. A great place to grow and develop both as a person and professionally. There are so many avenues to take.   

We would clean the Toronto community housing buildings that we where in and have two breaks and one lunch. Hardest part was the mopping, the easiest part was every wednesday where we learn new skills.
