TD Direct Investing

I literally don’t know why people are saying being an IR is a way to “get into the industry”. Come on! You are just a customer service call center agent, doing LEI LQI compliance ACW that kind of stuff🙄️ Nothing to do with analysis or other intelligent things, just CUSTOMER SERVICES! The management makes naive decisions everyday (if you are an IR right now and doing authentication stuff you should know what I referred to); you do everything on the call requested by stupid clients and get sh*t pay & bonuses; I every cried (3 times) just because of clients and I know one of my colleagues went to see a doctor just because of mental health; systems are old, from 1990s... 
So my main point is get rid of the job. It can not help you with your future career AT ALL, and you will get frustrated & upset everyday. Trust me, everyday.

This role becomes very stressful over time. Once you get the hang of things it becomes very repetitive and unfulfilling. Entry level role in wealth. Scoring metics are silly. Negative surveys out of your control. Robotic metric talking points. Typical call centre job. Coaching and huddles become repetitive and boring. Things used to be fun when we were in the building pre-covid and had many events and co-workers to socialize and eat lunch with. Managers have been great in my experience. Benefits are great. Pay is good for an entry level role. Inbound calls suck so be sure to understand what the role is like and if you're comfortable taking call centre inbound calls over and over again for demanding clients. Nothing fancy or special about this role as some may think looking in from the outside.

On a typical day, we would assist clients with the execution of their trades as well as identify any issues they may have with their investment accounts. We were there to answer any questions they may have regarding the types of investments available, accounts used and what they mean, as well as assisting with finding proper investment strategies for the clients' specific situation

Very autocratic environment with not much of an opportunity to be creative or open minded.  Management is very top-down with their approach and employee morale is extremely low.  If you want to be able to express yourself this is not the place for you.  The only people I would recommend taking the position would be someone who is looking to get some experience with trading in the markets.  You can learn lots about the markets in a year or two, but get yourself out of the place after then.

TD Direct Investing is a good place to work. 
The environment is always changing and adaptability is a must. 
Mid level management understands the role and understands what is required to succeed. 
The employees are mostly engaged and works as one unit. 
The most enjoyable part of my job as a manager is to see Investment Representatives succeed and move into a next role.
The hardest part of the job is following our senior leaders who sometimes lack guidance and ownership.

My desk required an easy-going personality - dealing with walk-in clients to the approx. 250 internal - takes a lot of flexibility. I liked the adrenaline rush; targets to meet with impossible deadlines - I peaked every time! The hardest part was when a client left unsatisfied. I left with a wealth of info and lots of enhanced skills

TD Direct Investing has a young crowd. The job culture is great.
While working at TD Direct Investing a learned a lot about 
about different types of markets (Equity, Fixed Income, Mutual Funds).  I became very multi tasked and have developed excellent communication and listening skills. I learned  how to engage clients and provide them financial solutions diplomatically and on the spot.

A typical day at work is you are a customer service and investment rep for clients .You place trades for clients, help answer any questions they have. BIG DOWNFALL they will micromanage you to the maximum, your life will be miserable. We are just a number to them. Their work culture is toxic, similar positions at other financial institutions are far better. STAY away if you don't want your life to be miserable, don't just get in for the money. Mental health over money anyday, anytime. 

Constantly monitored, overly micro managed, everything you do is scrutinized and recorded. Executive team raises sales goals every quarter to an unrealistic, unobtainable figure to reduce staff bonuses intentionally. Management promises promotions but never delivers. 

every time new management came in, they kept changing the direction and contradicted themselves. even my manager left after me because she got sick of it. putting unnecessary pressure on employees. good place to start your career, but make sure you get out of it before hitting a 2 year mark.
