TD Meloche Monnex

Worked for TDI (formerly Meloche Monnex) for 15.5 years.Over that time the culture of company changed dramatically. Once TD Bank got it's claws on us they ran it like a work camp and sucked all the enjoyment of coming to work out. At one time we were told by our manager that the bank expects upper management to only stay in their position 2 years max and then move one to a different area. This makes it tough to get any sort of continuity as each new manager needs to put their stamp on the dept so you start one project and then stop and go in a whole new direction.

During my last 1.5 - 2 yrs upper management would fly in to give their annual town hall meeting (aka. dog & pony show). During these they would tell us that we are experiencing headwinds and then the bank would report record earnings each quarter.  When the layoffs started management would let the TL's know and then we had to meet with the others via a conference call  that there would be no more layoffs (lie) then six months later they would repeat the whole process over again.  This had the whole office walking on egg shells and wondering when the axe was going to fall again and who it was going to effect. Makes for a very toxic work environment.

Processes where often changed for the sake of change, not for any improvements. They added a third party to the process for service calls to the building. 

The work life balance was not bad, was able to leave my work at the office and not have to bring it home. 

The salary was good, but near the end of my tenure no amount of $$$ would be enough.

The job security/advancement was ok if you wanted to leave your position every 2 yrs. 

Management was like seagulls, they fly in dump all over you and then fly off. 

The job culture was horrible, they would cut support and expect you to make miracles happen.

A normal day starts with the everyday inbound client. I help them with their insurance needs by asking open ended questions and making the client comfortable with their insurance wordings. With renewals I generally dealt with client complaints and premium issues as well as payment issues. Each client is vastly different in their understanding and knowledge in the insurance world, and I take great joy in being able to teach clients about insurance and how their coverages help protect them. I have learned in 5 years that no matter how the misunderstanding or problem occurred with the client interaction with a past analyst I can always help the individual learn what a great experience their insurance talks can be with the right knowledge and help. I enjoy every interaction I have with my clients and take pride in knowing that I have done my best at every step to help. In the beginning of my training I was shy and it was hard for me to ask for the sale but with years of experience I have grown confident and comfortable with sales. I am always early and eager to help other staff members whom are having a difficult time or the company by performing more tasks then what is asked of me. For example, call backs, complaint calls, mail, processing requests which were mailed in or emailed; peer coaching, cold calls for sale quotes.

I worked for them as a client services analyst for 10+ years in Toronto,Ontario. In reading the posts here and on glass door.com, it is very evident
That employees are very unhappy with their work environment (I.e. scripting,micromanagement,CEI,aggressive sales targets,no sales commissions
Etc) and as a result the morale is at an all time low and turnover is also very high.

Management is only focused on sales and CEI and not on employee morale as they could care less about high turnover.TD does not value
Their long term employees and they are only focused on the bottom line and they have no qualms with hiring a brand new employee who makes
At least $10K a year less than a long term employee!!

Have been trying to run the insurance side like the bank side and this is a disaster in itself trying to do this!!!

The position pays well from an economy standpoint, but not well as a broker. There is no commission. There is room for growth but only if your liked, as there are many people fighting for the same position and only a few positions to go around. 

The environment is a call centre and will burn you out after awhile, since you are required to answer at minimum 35 calls, saying the same thing over and over again, which will become repetitive and monotonous. If this position is of interest to you, I would say get in and get out. Have a plan, obtain the experience and then move onto to something closer to your plan/heart desires for your life and livelihood. I hope this summary of my experience at Meloche Monnex helps someone. 

TD has a very busy work environment, almost no time for breaks because you were either in meetings and having to manage a high pending of clients.  
I have had the opportunity to learn much about insurance and develop different skill sets. 
Management was consistently changing for a while, finding the right candidate for the job. 
Workplace culture varied by team and manager. 
The hardest part of the job is maintaining a heavy work load in peak seasons when you are under staffed. Quick turn around on employees. 
The most enjoyable part of my job is helping people through a very tough time and seeing the end results as a positive.

Company was really good to start up with. Always foced on customer services besides sales. But during the end of my tenure it was more of a sales driven then customer service and relation.

Lots of pressure on sales from the Team leaders. Environment was good, Benefits were great. Co-workers amazing. Highly professional environment.

Fast-paced environment, friendly staff. Competitive. Competitive salary. Good people to work with. Like that you were recognized for birthdays, achievements and they use to have really great parties for the staff.

TD Meloche Monnex rewards top performers with an annual trip called all-stars. Some of the frontline employees worked well in a fast pace environment, however, some direct writers felt pressured meeting the client experience and or sales target.

Great learning experience, was able to work on and improve skills and learning to grow personally and professionally. The experience allowed me to figure out the right path or direction I should be taking.

Too many policies and procedures
No autonomy to make decisions
Direct supervisor was good 
Low morale due to poor work/life balance
Workload was such that it was impossible to be proactive
Pay was average for the industry
