Working on the spare list is basicly you being a substitution for workers in your union. In my days at Tembec, I learned how to manoeuvre multiple machines for paper wrapping. Management was good to helping you out if you had any issues but they we're a little organized when making the schedule and communicating with employees. My co-workers at Tembec we're all good people.  Always there if you needed some help.  The hardest part of the job was vessel watch. Being stationed on a chair  at a confined space for a full 12hrs watching and assuring your co-workers safety without ever leaving was too long and boring for my taste. Especially on night shifts. The most enjoyable part of the job was wrapping the paper rolls.

Management:  
The only thing upper management cares about is production.  They all turn a blind eye when it comes to sacrifice safety for production.  No training or appreciation is given to management employees.

Salary:
The company doesn't pay enough to keep people around.  They expect you to be there and stay late whenever there are problems with the mill.  Depending on your boss, you may be able to bank that time off.  There is a high turnover.

Unionized Workers:
Unionized workers are over protected.  They do not welcome newcomers.  They have been abused by poor management and most have lost the will to work.

Was a great location and great company to work for at the time I was employed with them.  I left due to life changes decisions and I wanted to move up in the organization which was limited due to my education background.  I was not an engineer and in management most promotions were given to those candidates.  Truly understand why as it’s an engineer focus company.  Left the company because of lack of opportunities to grow as a production supervisor. 

Tembec is a large place which is very diverse. The mill is in a small town which depends on the mill to survive. Everyone who works there wants to see the mill do well, so the town does well. It is an interesting environment to work in. The day to day life at Tembec can be very fast passed and dirty. But at the end of the day you get paid to take a shower before going home which makes it easy to get fully involved in your task.

Tembec Inc moved its operations out of Manitoba which had a detrimental effect on surrounding economy of the pine falls area. on Down sizing their operations had a rippling effect to all sub contractors that lived along the east side of lake Winnipeg.

The management are all fair and great as long as you do your job or are at least willing to learn how to do your job when first hired and after you've been there for many years you get very respected and supported especially if you've been a great employee and always did your job or if you needed help, all you need to do is ask for help.

Tembec gave me the chance to learn everything labour wise from scratch and was extremely patient and understanding. Starting at the bottom of the chain though, I was submitted to some very demanding physical jobs at first and was not respected by coworkers.

This company has been first class in salary and benefits compare to others in the same industry. The management is really involve with the employees and there is many way for career development, good company to work for, I spent more then 16 years with them.

A typical day at work would include working in a safe manner. Ensuring safety of myself and everyone around me. Making sure the product was at quality standards.

Fast-paced environment, long hours, hot weather, labour work.

Great job, good experience on the job.  Good people to work with. Enjoyed 16 years in this job. Job was always very secure never worried about having your job
