My time at Temiskaming Hospital has proven to be very challenging and stressful due to cutbacks and poor management. Just recently we have had another round of cutbacks and a changeover in management; I am seeing positive change and am hopeful for the future. 

I began as a medical dictatypist working only with two other typists. This was a quiet position in which I transcribed many different documents for many different physicians. This was very relaxing and rewarding. 

As Outpatient Coordinator I am responsible for the coordination of many outreach specialist clinics, two operating room suites (including booking patients, ordering preoperative testing, arranging surgeons, assistants and anesthesiologists), outreach chemotherapy suite as well as many other office duties including some medical transcription. This position is challenging and stressful. I have enjoyed the challenge of organizing this office; however, cutbacks and poor management over the years have proven to be very negative. I have very much enjoyed working with the specialists, the family physicians and nursing staff in my clinics, and have managed to stay positive and continue to provide the services our patients deserve. I have faced many challenges over the years but I continue to move forward with the hope that positive change is on the horizon.

This is an overall great place to work. Most of the issues are in regards to the general culture of healthcare these days rather than specific Temiskaming Hospital issues, but as with any workplace it is not perfect. 

My direct managers are caring, approachable and willing to deal with issues that arise, which has really helped to improve morale. Corporate sometimes feels a little out of touch with the day to day workings of frontline staff (with a bit of a “Garden of Eden blame game feel” at times), but there are amazing advocates in the direct managers on the front lines. I would love to see better communication from the top down, but it does seem to be improving little by little. 

99% of the time I am happy walking into work and am still happy when I walk out. My coworkers are my family - we laugh together, cry together, vent together and celebrate together. We may be a slightly dysfunctional family, but that keeps it interesting!!

The implementation of clinical educators has really helped to improve the training process and the ongoing support of staff with new procedures. 

There also seems to be some good things happening as they look to improve security - a much-needed initiative. 

Do I recommend Temiskaming Hospital? In a heartbeat! Come join the family!

Very poor culture due to wide spread nepotism, lazyness and lack of real experience from management and workers alike. Lots of lip service and "winging it", a term I have never heard in my life prior to this place. I could go in details, but my review would not be aproved if I do. Overall a good place to work for grifters who lack talent and passion for their jobs, but not a tremendously satisfying experience for people who enjoy improving on the mediocricy that this hospital is. If you are the type that takes 10 smoke breaks while milking the payroll you might like the place.

Managements favourite line is “I’ll look into this” and never bothers getting back to you; very poor communication on all fronts from every manager currently employees. HR has zero concept of what nursing encompasses & what the role includes. Scheduling is a nightmare. The Administrators at this hospital show questionable ethics, and have little regard for their staffs opinions or needs. A very unpleasant work environment made tolerable only by the front line staff themselves.

As in all areas of patient care, caring, observing and professionalism is essential

If you want to feel like you're as small as a grain of sand when you go to work every day, take a job at the Temiskaming Hospital. 

Management will be sure that you feel as little as possible. Nursing staff form cliques. So if they don't like you, you won't be around for long. Some of the doctors conduct themselves like they are gods. People say nasty things behind your back and about the patients too.

Smaller hospital very relaxed.  They involve the staff in different holidays and events very job culture.  No benefits if part time.  They celebrate holidays.  Management is great to some extent.  French is a must to work on the floor.  

The Temiskaming hospital was a great place to work.  There is good communication and teamwork among staff.  The pay scale and benefits packages were competitive.  I would recommend this place of employment for those wishing to work in healthcare.

Hospital is very supportive of its staff. The nicest place I have worked. Co-workers were more like friends and family.  The interaction and connection between hospital and community is so supportive in both directions.
