A typical day at TFL would be to start the day with safety meetings and toolbox meetings. After that stretch's and proceed to work. I have learned lots about tanks and procedures from welding floors to seams and roofs. I have welded thousands of piles with SMAW and FCAW. The hardest part of the job is being away from my family for long periods of time and welding can be very physically demanding especially in extreme cold/ hot conditions. It is very gratifying to come on to a project with a great group of people and see a project go from start to finish. I take great pride in my work and look forward to many more projects. .

During my past 24 years in the Oil Sands industry, I have worked my way up from a Red Seal Boilermaker to my most resent roll as Director of Field Operations. During this time I have gained experience in many areas of steel fabrication. I have worked and managed scopes in both shop and field settings including exchanger manufacturing and repair, pipe spool fabrication, and structural steel. As I moved into supervision and then into Management, I acquired planning and scheduling through practical and formal Management training. This training has allowed me to successfully manage subcontractors and clients on increasingly complicated scopes and budgets over the past 15 years.

TFL was a very fun place to work because they would push and test your abilities. If it was something I had never done before the workers would help me through it and teach me how to do it the right way. I learned how to bevel and prep ends of pipe as well as get a good understanding of welding and how to use an oxy acetylene torch. I gained lots of experience working here.

Was a small shop and the kind of place that took on the jobs that nobody wanted. And we got them done. Bigger jobs came in and the business expanded - maybe a bit out of control and probably a 'make or break' situation. In the end the place was shut down. However it was a really good company to start my apprenticeship from. The Management were great people, foremans were hardasses but just trying to get the job done like everyone else.

management makes huge mistakes costing a ton of money.

management has no experience what so ever and are constantly messing stuff up.

 the work is good but thats when we actually get the drawing/correct drawings, waiting months for tools, 

I've been there long enough to see tons of people quit. huge turn around rate

TFL Industrial was a fantastic organization to be a part of. Lots of opportunity for growth, friendly people all around, with a general feeling of high morale and the management was very accommodating.

I spent over 3 years with TFL and lots of good times. It was always busy, exciting and always changing. Like any new or expanding company it had issues but management always worked hard to resolve them.

Poor management no direction. alot  of favourtism and relatives first. No management skills, heard company was in financial trouble and it appeared no one card any longer.

wonderful place to work. hard work accompanied by appropriate periods of rest. good safety culture. poor management at times but the rest of the crew makes up for what is lacking upstairs

Great work environment. Advancement based on skill, hard work, dependability and respect.Clean safe shop and nicely maintained welding trucks.
