THE BIG CARROT

Easily one of the worst job experiences I’ve had. From the beginning, the work atmosphere was cold and unwelcoming. Instead of proper training, I received constant nitpicking from a supervisor who seemed more interested in power-tripping than actually leading a team.

The kitchen staff was mostly idle, yet somehow, they still found time to gossip and criticize. No matter how hard you worked, there was no respect or acknowledgment—just a negative, cliquish environment where you were either “one of them” or an outsider. If you’re new, expect to be treated as disposable.

The final straw was the unprofessional way they handle terminations. No real feedback, no respect—just a dismissive attitude as if employees are nothing but temporary placeholders.

If you’re looking for a healthy work environment where effort is valued and management treats staff with basic decency, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. At last, 
I'm extremely pleased that I don't have to see any of them ever again.

It used to be a corporation run as a co-op with very high and profitable wages (toped with bonuses and dividences if you were a member). The Board was archaic and getting things done in snail speed but worthy of all the benefits you could get from the Carrot. Not perfect but everyone was friendly.  

Turn out of events with the New Managament. Lost values, ground, touch with everything and everyone. It turned into a financial disaster and a terrible social environment. Brutal results due to poor, irresponsible and utterly unexperienced management.

The former Board is back in power. Too late to save the place....huge damage is done! The Carrot can be an extremally interesting case for an Economic class.

Provided with the opportunity to learn about skin and hair care. 
Stocked the shelves and assisted customers in finding products that suit their needs. Overall workplace culture was pleasant, lots of nice people work here. 
However management was weak, especially when it came to protecting staff from some very unpleasant regular customers, and moving the body care department into a smaller space was a mistake, the environment is very small and uncomfortable for both shoppers and staff. The most enjoyable part of the job is helping people, and  the staff samples and roof top patio are a nice bonus. 

I've had a wonderful time gaining insightful knowledge about organic products and healthy life style,  i now have adapted as my way of living for myself. The most helpful employees and HR department. Working at the big carrot means finding a peaceful environment to learn and share knowledge with customer who are like family members. I advise anyone to go to the store and walk around just to have an idea as to  who they are and what the provide for the community. you will be blowing away, with positive experience.

A worker-owned cooperative. Excellent workplace for workers but extremely challenging for management. A very successful business but somewhat insular. Roles and responsibilities of membership, board of directives and management confusing and difficult to navigate. Wages and benefits for workers are excellent but management salaries are inappropriately low. A very busy store in a bustling and funky neighborhood.

A really nice place to work. The employees are relatively nice & easy to get along with. The customers are generally nice as well. You do get a few interesting ones, but makes for good stories down the line.
Working here, I was introduced into the world of natural/organic food. I learned lots and made a few changes in what I now purchase for myself &  family. I've worked in two departments and enjoyed my time there. They're great at giving you the hours that you request. And time off is easy, as long as you ask ahead of time.

-Work days can be hard to structure do to a culture that lacked leadership.
-Wages out of step with reality though great for some employees bad for business.
-Management training was like pulling teeth.
-The best part of the job was the social responsibility and ethical practices.

If you have some experience, it will take no time to adapt unless you really dont have the skill for the job or cannot multitask.

I worked as a baker, the daily tasks were very easy compare to all of my past experience as a line cook. The early morning shift was perfect for me since I can spend the afternoon to enjoy my life.

Most of this work is production, The Carrot has a 40 item hot and cold self serve buffet, as well as a 60 item grab and go cooler. There is a morning shift and an afternoon shift with approximately 15 staff members.

Great staff and management team. Wonderful place to work if you are interested in Health and wellness as there is so much to learn and so many people to help you. Hardest part of the job is that it is very busy and physically demanding. Most enjoyable part of the job - everything else!
