THE CAT RENTAL STORE

This company is now become a joke in the rental business. I have been in the equipment rental business for 30+ years. Having worked for other major rental companies and I have never seen a company who clearly does not understand their own business like The Cat Rental Store (Finning). Every decision they make is the polar opposite of what makes sense or what is good for the business or their customers. Almost all decisions are either based on over the top safety or what the share holders want. Every couple years they tried to reinvent themselves failing miserably each time and wasting even more money. Senior management is arrogant and they hold personal grudges when they don't like the feedback they have asked for. This company was an up and coming force at one time but is now in a nose dive with branch closure after branch closure. They recruited me from another rental company and after 12 years of employment they decided to do yet another mass layoff this time exiting most of the middle management without any reason given to all of the employees affected. Last years employee survey results were overwhelmingly clear that there was not enough staff so instead of hiring people they do the opposite and let even more people go. Do not work for this company or Finning unless you want to be put out with the garbage when it suits them.

A typical day would be to moniter, employees compliance with company policies and regulations. This would also include being an adversary between the union and company. I learned alot about different personalities working together.I have had an amazing support group with the management team that i got to work with. I would have to say the hardest part of the job was learning new processes, and then enforcing these to processes to the employees.The most enjoyable part of the job is all the successes we could celebrate once running smoothly.

It's a great place to work when things are good...great pay, great benefits and great people.  But when times get tough you realize you are just a number...a lot of good people let go that have put in a lot of time just to be discarded...11yrs of devotion myself, just to be told that there are cutbacks and I'm no longer needed.  They want more with less and bless the people that can hang in there.  Upper management needs to give thier head a shake and realize who and what they have...not just numbers on a page.

I loved my time spent at the Cat Rental Store. The variety of tools and equipment you deal with on a daily basis never gets boring. There are always more things to learn and people to meet. I even got transferred upon request to another city, and the transition was quite pleasant. I would highly recommend working for this company.

Rudderless ship.  The Executive in charge of the rental store is incompetent.  She has no plan of her own and it’s obvious as there have been multiple Major strategy shifts throughout the years.  Business is floundering.  It’s only a matter of time before Finning shuts down the whole operation.

safety was huge there if it was snowing and looked like it would only get worse they would send you home while it was safe to do so instead of waiting for things to get worse and still pay you for the full day

Good place to work. Benefits are great options for share purchase.
Opportunity to move around to different hourly (union) positions once seniority is established. Safety is number One which is good yet can be overbearing.

friendly people to work with , direct supervisors and branch managers , as well .

Got along quite well with everyone. safety was a huge focus, even in the office. I got the sense that Caterpillar pushed Finning around a bit which caused problems.
