THE DUNFIELD RETIREMENT RESIDENCE

Joined at a very busy time to help out with the Recruitment. Though the contract was only for a short period initially - did accept the extension twice as Recruitment was still very busy, and due to the positive experience during the hiring process for the role and overall interactions.

During the tenure, experience with various Directors and Managers - was very good at Shiplake / Dunfield, and overall a friendly place to work. 

Also, would like to say - that the little interaction with the residents was good. There were protocols in place to ensure safety during COVID / pandemic. A very warm and welcoming place.

Being a previous employee, I found that the staff is much into cliques and are not fond of new staff in the dining room. Some of the residents disrespect you with their racial stereotypes and ignorance. The management do not further investigate staff complaints regarding residents as it is an expensive price to live at the retirement home.  At most, the management automatically "side" with the residents because of this. I wouldn't recommend working here as you could potentially resent the residents and work environment.

The staff and residents who live there are very friendly and fun. Lots of fun events too. But the lunch and dinner service is always chaotic and unorganized. Management is slacking and doesn't take the initiative to implement change or improve things. Must lift heavy objects and no tip.

Where do I begin..
1)  management skims your hours(which affects your pay)
2) your hourly wage does not include tips. You still have to do ALL of the regular duties as a server (staying back 30 mins to an hour just to clean.sometimes they don’t pay you for it “by adjusting your hours”) plus host special events which is like a monthly thing.
-2B) they overwork their employees because they’re so understaffed.
3) There’s no flexible scheduling! Trying to get time off is a nightmare because they’re so understaffed (always hiring)

The structure in this place is non existent.  People continue to throw each other under the bus and undercut each other.  You hear one thing from a supervisor and then hear another from a different one. They pay is terrible considering the amount of stress and responsibility that comes with each other. Face it, you can't put lipstick on a pig.

Overall a good company to work for.  Staff is great.  You work closely with the residents and are required to learn their names in order to use point of sale.  Most are friendly and you will get along with them.  Scheduling flexibility not the greatest but they will try and help you.  May require you to work Sunday evenings.

The culture in the company is great. Managers are good and my co-workers are very helpful. We all work together and support each other. We get along well with other departments too eg: kitchen. I love all fun at work such us ice-cream truck on site, burger day, going to wonderland and holiday parties! 

I work in the Dunfield for more than 5 years. This is a very good company to work for. Residents are great, managers are helpful and we have a lot of residents and staff social activities. I have the opportunity to join and support some of the outings even I am from the dining team. 

I had great experience working for the company. People, places, culture everything was perfect. Just salary or hourly rate of compensation is lower than average. Yearly increments are not mentionable. 

This is a really great workplace to be a part of. They really take care of their staff, and the bonuses and benefits are a great perk. The residents make the job so much fun, or horrible depending on the day. But overall its a great family to be a part of.
