What is the best part of working at the company?
1) The pay was good during COVID-19 initiatives. 
2) Working alongside like-minded colleagues (usually anyone in the same or lateral positions) who enjoyed using their critical judgment skills and compassion to support clients.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
These opinions are my own, and they were agreed-upon by all colleagues who were not management:
1) There were no benefits despite the full-time hours and long-term contract.
2) Overall poor workplace culture and disconnect when interacting, or trying to interact and collaborate with, any supervisors or management.
3) Dealing with managers: general inadequate support for staff; i.e.: re: insufficient training time and practice despite mine and colleagues' self-advocacy; significant lack of transparency from any supervisors/management re: expectations, shifts, staff reviews, contracts, etc. that led to feeling stonewalled, unappreciated, without support, and "just like a number". 

The above have led me to decide that: the only capacity that I will personally work for DRHD again is if I am hired to apply my skills in Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace, as it is deeply required to support all staff in all hierarchy of positions.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Speaking to the period of Oct 5, 202 - Nov 29, 2022: 
- Work culture among staff working in similar, lateral - type positions was amazing: we supported each other when and where possible, we really nailed teamwork (we had to because management was unable and unwilling to reliably support staff)
- Online/remote work, little staff engagement (including little effort for even online socials)
- RNs eventually worked in person with different rotating staff in rotating (remote) Mass Immunization Clinics (hockey rinks, public libraries, schools, etc.) - generally darker, colder, rigid locations; while this was good for social distancing, it felt unpleasant. 
- Any time spent on-site at headquarters: it is a decent building, maintained well; the RN floor/offices were composed of inaccessible, maze-like closed cubicles - an outdated office structure from the 90s and 2000s that also feels unpleasant, light from windows didn't travel well due to cubicles blocking them
- Significantly fast-paced with weekly and biweekly protocol changes

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Uncertain; RNs could have been placed on working from home remotely to attend to COVID-19 calls, or Immunization calls, or Vaccine work; and even then, RNs were on-call, uncertain if  they would be called in to work at a Mass Immunization Clinic (eg. if someone else called in sick) that could be up to 1.5hr drive away from home.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Work environment was great. Professional and organized. I loved it the complex work I had to do at the frontline. I enjoyed every second!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
To me it were minor things. Like dealing with clients who don’t properly speak English but from which I still assisted them at the best of my ability. Or from time to time when there is miscommunication or a misunderstanding, things can get more challenging.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great! It feels you are part of a big family. Professional, friendly, warm, enthusiastic. The perfect environment where I feel driven and motivated!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
When I start I check the Mail and phone messages and start filling g reports when people start calling at 9am. And the technicians as well. This goes through the whole day. I get complains about road safety traffic manager and I transfer clients to the different departments. Receive large shipping items and regular Mail.  Delivering pay checks.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I  worked in long-term care for 30 years. My employers provided  me with excellent training. They were conscientious in regards to my health and well being. They listened to my concerns and  input.  They made working with seniors  a rewarding  experience. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part about working at The Region of Durham Long-term was that  sometimes you couldn't predict what each day would bring.  Sometimes I wished that I could have spent more time with  the residents. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The Region of Durham is focused on providing the best services to it's clients  emphasizing person centered care.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It's a task centered job. No two days are ever the same.  Every one worked together to provide exemptable care.

Many who work here are feeling burnt out. There is a high turnover.  It’s difficult to maintain a work-life balance, especially if one has kids, as two evening shifts are required (1-9pm) and the workload is demanding - 5 hours of clients a day, with no time for breaks if you want to finish your paperwork without working overtime. It’s policies over people. The most important thing to management is that you’re meeting your benchmark - 50% of your work time seeing clients. 

A day at work - Analyzing revenues. Direction on accounting issues to other employee. Attending meetings. Laising with other departments etc.
Learning - To account for an electronic payment system. Trouble shoot with outside GTA affiliates. Management skills.
Management - Demoratic syle management. Very considerate towards the needs of its employees
Co-Workers - Very good co-workers.
Hardest part of my job is when I do not accomplish what I set out to do
The most enjoyable part is being able to accomplish what I set out to do and when I successfuly help other to do the same

The position involved meeting with client departments, providing guidance for requiremnt specifications and procedures.
I learned a great deal of Government Policies and Procdure and the best approach to the processes.  Management was extremely supportive and provided excellent guidance when necessary. The hardest part of the job was making sure every client was satisfied with the service level provided.  The most enjoyable part of the job was the camaraderie with colleagues.

Many changes have taken place over the years at the Region some good some not so good.  The Region offers excellent benefits, pension, educational opportunities.  Hardest part of the job is poor co-operation and lack of support.  Most enjoyable is the work itself and the wonderful residents and families I meet and take care of, what I get from them far exceeds what I do for them.

The Managers are helpful and staff are supportive

I did not find anything stressful

Supportive and helpful with avenues for learning

Getting to meet various people with whom  can exchange new ideas

Salary and benefits are beyond competitive

Sometimes challenging working with the people with housing needs without having all the answers for them

Supportive, inclusive, modern 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
 Busy busy days, but gratifying work

Working for the Region of Durham has far been the best experience for me.  Great people and a great culture.  There are always opportunities to learn and grow and the organization provides several different types of training programs and certificates.  The most enjoyable part of my job is working with great colleagues.  There are all very caring and supportive and proud to be part of the team.
