My time at Winners started out well, decent hours, decent workers, and even through hard times we got through fine. I worked as part of the warehouse crew. The warehouse leader quit right before I was hired.

But as the Christmas season came to a close we saw no signs of the management staff seeking a replacement for the warehouse leader, leaving us warehouse employees out to dry, passing the responsibilities from one manager to another with no real direction for us. 

One of my associated decided to strive for the warehouse leader position, and he worked quite hard, accomplishing many of the goals we needed to accomplish. But he then began to get harassed by some of the female employees, they spread lies about him and started fights with him, and he eventually had enough when one of the causes of the problems claimed that she did not feel safe around him (for no real reason, he never hurt anyone or threatened anyone, he only raised his voice when angered, as most of us do) and the managers almost always sided against him. He left the store. 

Then the other warehouse associate started to suffer from major depression, he never came back after a while. 

This left me as the only warehouse associate (not including the guy who only works half days, only a couple days a week) and I decided that I was going to go for the leader position. After being led on through an interview and several times of high hopes, reassuring, and even other associates claiming that I should get the job, there was only silence. When the hiring manager was confronted by me about it, she claimed that they were still deciding. (at this point they still did not hire help for me, only occasionally putting help from the floor associates, and getting angry at me when everything could not be accomplished by one guy)

After weeks and then months had passed, eventually I was just tired, fed up, the management staff was not fixing the problems, it was problems that I could not fix myself, I tried and worked hard until I ran out of steam, almost never meeting the daily task requirements and getting in trouble for it, even though I was the only real warehouse associate. And once I had the opportunity for a better paying, better work conditioned, better managed job, I left.

Its not worth the minimum wage, its not worth the effort, its not worth the stress. If you are not a go-getter, or a person who doesn't worry about the work they accomplish, this is right for you. If you stress about how much you can get done, and hate to leave work before you accomplish everything, prepare to stay in the warehouse for a very long time. You are alone, barring the occasional help. Of course, this could only be because of my location and specific management team.

On the positives, the managers were quite nice, even though they should have gotten more done. The atmosphere was decent, not including a select few employees who made everything pretty terrible. And they did treat us nicely around Christmas.

All in all, meh. If you really need work, go for it. If you have options, make Winners slightly lower in those options. Happy job hunting.

This company is good for your first job and for someone who's just starting off in the working world, but I wouldn't highly recommend it as a career. The work is extremely repetitive with very little difference from day-to-day work minus the customers you experience and the things they try to get away with such as trying to return an item from 2015.

Management differs from store to store, with some being the best you've ever seen and some being less than desirable. The ones at my store were split in half based on this ranking.
The other associates you work with are always kind and helpful and I only had one experience of interpersonal conflict at my location during my time there, of which it was between two full-time associates.

The work is not difficult by any means and the training is sufficient for the tasks you need to complete, with the only real challenges being dealing with rude customers, processing the trucks early in the morning, cashing out large orders, and overwhelmingly busy days. The room to grow in the company is limited if you are part-time, with the most you can do being elected into the Joint Health and Safety Committee or the Joy Committee. Otherwise, the only promotion you would get is for your yearly review and pay raise.

The hours, however, are for the most part abysmal. I would regularly only be given one to two 4-hour shifts per week and at one point was given only one 4-hour shift in two weeks. his is good for those who only want something to do on the weekend and get a little cash as a bonus, but it's a pain for those who actually want to work to get a little extra money in the bank.
This job also has an extremely high turnover rate and the friends you make will leave as quickly as they came. After one year of my employment, I lost 12 of the 15 people who were with me at orientation. It's hard to see some of them leave, especially if you had a very close friendship with them.

Overall the pay is decent for starting wage, the employees you work with are, for the most part, as good as they come and management is hit or miss depending on your location. I met a lot of fantastic people at my store, most of whom I still have contact with. It's an excellent job to start and find your footing in the job market, but not one I recommend staying at for more than 2-3 years.

I have been working at winners for over a year now, and I have to say if I knew what working there would be like I would've stayed unemployed. The managers at the Prince Albert Winners are mean, inconsiderate, lazy, moody people! If you call in sick, they ream you out over the phone and call you a liar even if you provide them with a doctors note. If you are helping a customer at the checkout and are a few minutes late for your mandatory break, they take it out of your break time.  During the Christmas season they change your availability for you without consultation or consideration and give you an insane amount of hours.  And now with the current COVID-19 epidemic we are wearing masks and gloves however our managers are not taking this seriously enough. They are constantly touching their eyes, mouth and faces! Our bathrooms are still open to the general public and we are still required to clean them. Which is putting the staff and the public at risk. We had been told that if we did not return back to work even if we felt it was unsafer we would be let go. The amount of people they are letting in the store is horrendous! The three cashiers working that whole shift are completely swamped! The managers had been letting people in the store up until 30 minutes before it closed, and it took an additional hour to ring everyone through the tills. It was poorly judged on their part. And every time we have to stay after our scheduled shift to finish cleaning up the store, or like this week to help customers, we do that pro-bono. It is mandatory to stay and finish up, which can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half! Don't get me wrong, there are some pluses to working there. Such as the 10% discount and some amazing people that you get to work with. But the good does not outweigh the bad here. I strongly recommend that you reconsider applying to work at the Prince Albert Winners.

If this Management team was on a training basis that was all the same, it would be far more effective than 3 different training styles for one task. My point is that when you have 3 managers telling you three different ways to do something, it only causes confusion which wastes time. Not only are you pressured to get all the merchandise to the floor in 30 minutes as per company standard, but you are also expected to help the customers, set up several tables, take down large carpets when needed, as well as be back up for the cashiers at the frontline. In addition, as a former Coordinator of Gourmet, which is a large area in itself, you are doing it alone so when your shift ends, in many cases so does the work. The best part of this job were the associates, who are virtually in the same position as you but are great people to work with. The Cons are in my case. the Management and their pressured and diverse styles of training. As well, I worked on a full time basis and I always felt bad for the associates who were called in for 3 hour shifts, which didn't make it easy for them to find another position to support their needs. As well, I found that many of the questions asked of Management were NOT answered in a timely fashion, or sometimes not at all. Asking a second time, was responded by a look that could send ice through your veins so you just don't do it. I did learn a lot at this company but ill admit that most of what I learned was through my other team member associates and not the Management!

A typical day would be delegating tasks to employees and trying to complete a few yourself.  Unfortunately most people never finished their tasks because the store was always short staffed which meant they were constantly called onto cash.  Plus the store was a complete disaster so a task that the company says takes 7 minutes actually takes 30-45 depending on the how disorganized the section was and how many people interrupted you.  Of course this is the case in a lot of retail stores but this is the worst place I have seen.  Customers seemed to leave their stuff absolutely everywhere and abandoned carts on the regular because the line was always so long.

Work life balance is non-existent.  You can have a shift that ends at 10pm and have to work at 6:30am the next day.  2 days off in a row is a luxury.  This is typical in retail but something that definitely needs to change.  Plus as a coordinator you got your schedule with only 9 days notice however it is made a month in advance.  Not sure why they don't just give coordinators their monthly schedule.

Changeover seems extreme.  I stayed with the company for just over a month and in that time the company was short 3 ASMs and had 2 coordinators quit.  Employees were quitting every couple of days too.

Speaking of ASMs I found they gave almost all the work to the coordinators and as coordinators you were being pulled around by 3 different people telling you different things.

The company itself seems to appreciate their employees.  There was social events and celebrations of all holidays.  Very diverse.  The benefits and pay were good when compared to most retail jobs.

All in all I would say I left every shift feeling overwhelmed with no sense of pride.  



I have been working at Winners Homesense for almost a year now and I must say it is the best place to work especially if the management is good which luckily for me it is. I have always felt comfortable approaching any manager whenever I needed to and I am treated with respect and I feel truly valued as a person at my job and that all the hard work I put in gets recognized and praised. I feel that my staff is one big family and every day is a new and exciting challenge for all of us and for the most part I have had nothing but happy experiences with all of my colleagues. If you have a soft spot for anything fashion or interior decor related then you will likely do very well and genuinely enjoy working on the sales floor where associates can make features of what is in right now and they are excellent with training their employees from the beginning of the their careers throughout the course of their time working there. They are very flexible with schedules too and will always try their hardest to accommodate when you are unable to work a shift or need it covered especially if you consistently volunteer to cover other people's shifts. 
The only complaint I have about working at TJX is the hours you ask for are not guaranteed week to week. The way they do their scheduling is according to meeting the sales goal which is usually based on surpassing the sales number made from the week exactly one year before the scheduled week, therefore the guarantee of hours fluctuates due to how many associates are needed in the store at a time.

Always arrive the warehouse 15 minutes early. Department meeting. Stretch. Get our papers and wait at our door or start working. I worked in receiving department so I would be pulling skids out of trucks. Organising boxes by P.O and styles. Sending them to the right departments. Required to do 3000 boxes a day. Learned how to use their system. Operated a pump truck everyday. Learned tips and tricks with moving/holding boxes. 

Management was great. Seemed very organised with many department heads and supervisors. It was very easy to call in sick and not have to worry. There were rules and policies. A proper orientation and training. 

I hated this places workplace culture. It felt like I was a farm animal in a barn moving from one place to the next. Especially during the time shifts change. Work ethic was terrible. All the senior employees would just do the bare minimum. Setting very bad examples for new employees to do things right. Especially when  you're getting bad mouthed by a senior employee for "working too hard"

The hardest part of the job was turning my brain off just to mentally get through the day. Working with people that hated their job eventually made me hate it too. Also, if you enjoy working in a non-conditioned environment were  you sweat, dry off, sweat again. Coming home a sticky smelly mess then this is the job for you. 

The most enjoyable part of the job was getting paid and going home.

Like most places, TJX has good things and bad. As a merchandise coordinator you are expected to make presentation features to present your product. However, they forget to tell you that you also have to be case backup, put away the days products that just arrived (depending on shipment can vary from a lot to a little), tend to customer enquires, clean/organize your area of the store if not more than your area, put away returns....did you get a chance to work on those features? 
TjX's own fault is their plan for success...keep staff volumes to a minimal to reduce costs. Even if this means that not everything can be done in one days work. Now if they can only recognize this. 
Everything is timed in the organization.  From receiving product, to putting away product to organizing product. So why don't they hire more people? That's not how it works....if the store does not meet sales targets for the week, the following week you are not given hours to schedule people. You meet target or exceed, your given hours to schedule more people. Remember I said everything is timed? 
Ultimately you want your store profitable or you won't have the hours to schedule others. So, sometimes you are left to do everything yourself without any help. 

The typical day would start by
a) Receiving truck, transport merchandise to the floor which was an all day on going task.
b) Morning huddle.  Discuss daily events and success of the store as well any policy changes that might have taken place.
c) Assign associates to their jobs and start the day.  

Management is always a learning curve when old ones leave and new ones come in, however they for the most part were all very friendly and eager to learn. I worked with the Store Manager for 4 of my 5 years at Winners and we worked excellent together, we understood one another's strengths and weaknesses.

I Loved working with all my associates, some were self starters and others needed more encouragement.  I also really enjoyed all the training seminars that were held for management.  Eg. Conflict resolution, Health and Safety, First aide, Discrimination in the Work Place, these are just a few that I took during my employment with Winners. 

Hardest part of my job was during inventory season, or when I had to do a large hiring session and training. 

The most enjoyable part of my job was definitely the relationships that I made with fellow employees.  I also enjoyed seeing my regular customers and talking with them.  Over all I really enjoyed my employment with Winners, I learnt a lot of new skill that I can take with me.

The company is great. Absolutely amazing company. If you have an opportunity to work for this company, take it! There's an amazing culture developed by the CEO and coworkers. There's opportunities for advancement and growth. You learn so much all while having fun! This Job never felt like a job, it felt more like hanging out with amazing friends. 

The management in the AP team is horrible. Specifically one person who ruins the entire environment of the team. She was condescending and rude to her employees, regularly throwing them under the bus. it felt like pulling teeth trying to talk to her. There were so many complaints about her, but upper management still did not take any action. After constantly seeing that there was no resolution to a very real problem, employees would leave or begin looking for other employment. Other, more senior employees would further develop this environment of backstabbery. It felt like you were walking on eggshells and fun was discouraged. The AP environment was vastly different than the environment in the company. When trying to move to different departments, management would discourage it or take action that it not happen. They would sabotage your application or review you poorly to department managers. The only way out of the department was to leave the company.
