What is the best part of working at the company?
 The only plus side is the pay and certain aspects of the benefit plan. HOWEVER for the amount of psychological trauma you will experience from this job is not and never will be sufficient enough. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The absolute worst job experience from every aspect. Management is always looking for ways to violate the collective agreement, discipline and/or terminate employees. A DAMNED if you do and DAMNED if you don't which make the job stressful. The public is allowed to get away with murder and Management's logic is "we can't control the public, we can only control the employee". Violence towards employees is constant and defending yourself will always come with some tactic to put you in the wrong. A culture of coworkers snitching on each other is encouraged. Promotions to supervisor or other higher positions are awarded to to employees they like or stay in their place. 

Management has been known to promote "trouble" employees to non-unionized positions with the sole intention in removing them from union protections & firing them.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
TOXIC and psychologically damaging. Brutal enforcement of attendance with very little sympathy for time off requests for things as important as weddings, funerals for non-immediate family, etc. 

Route supervisors are encouraged to keep the operators micro managed, stressed, and the bus moving at all costs. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Report for work and somehow physically and mentally survive the up to 12hr day(and no I'm not being sarcastic)

The pay and benefits not all the people are bad but there is enough of the public encouragement to make a toxic work environment

Dealing with the people public  realizes that they can get away with alot including never being held accountable for assault or destruction of property

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Divided. Management  vs union. New drivers vs senior drivers vs office staff vs management vs customers etc....

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Every day is dealing with fare evaders which you are told to ignore and beyond that you are hoping not to have a violent incident so that  you can return home safely.

TTC is a exceptional company depending on the department. It's just like any major company lots of dead wood. The company has interesting management but lower management is in need of improvements (again based on the department). TTC suffers from understaffing in critical positions due to city budget constraints this leads to a stressful environment. The pay has fallen back in comparison to other skilled trades. The environment is filthy due to dust and bio hazzards. Lots of shift work and mid week offdays makes TTC less desirable for young quality trade workers. There is room to grow but that come at a cost of a unhealthy work home balance.

At times dealing with the general public during service interruption 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I enjoyed the work environment. The opportunity became what ever you want to be while being paid. With 14,000 plus employees it’s like a large family you firm lots of relationships. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Early starts being in at work before most have woken, in the system, ensuring timely, courteous and safe travel for the public

The interview process was amazing. All the criteria it took to get in was a lot. It took over 7 months to be put into a training program where the instructor doesn’t care about the roll. It was very scary, no guidance, just do as you please. Instead of helping it was more of him wanting to fail you or you to crash. If this happens you’re done and so is your own personal license. The instructors and managers work as a team and it doesn’t matter if you have skills or talk about what happened,  you are out of the program.  I am very distrot that T.T.C. safety policy is not being followed while I was doing this training.  Above all knowing that I got thrown under the bus and this will keep happening.  

The best part of working this job is that you create your own schedule as you would be working through an agency. Depending on which station you are assigned it is lively and busy. It certainly has increased my knowledge of Toronto and travel around Toronto. For the most part people are friendly and polite and it is enormously rewarding actually helping people out of a difficult situation. The more challenging the bigger the feeling of accomplishment. TTC staff are cooperative for the most part but if not it will teach you how to handle tough situations both in communication and problem solving.

Working at TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) as a driver was an incredibly enjoyable experience. The role provided a unique opportunity to interact with diverse communities daily and be an essential part of Toronto's vibrant public transportation system. Driving the iconic red streetcars or buses allowed me to witness the city's beauty while navigating its bustling streets. Engaging with passengers from all walks of life was rewarding, and I took pride in ensuring their safe and smooth journeys. The camaraderie among fellow drivers and TTC staff created a supportive and friendly work environment. Being a TTC driver was not just a job; it was a gratifying and exciting adventure.

Typical day-job briefing with safety information. Load equipment and take it to the job site.Follow safety protocols for the subway, yard and car-house work. Return to home base after work is done. Not following the Rule Book can get you fired/or killed. Management was mediocre, because of the politics, and the workplace culture. The most enjoyable part of the job was a completed project. You always got paid the hours you worked. Health and safety is generally good. The politics is the hardest part of the job.

17 plus years of service was simply amazing. The managers at the time like most companies, you had the good with the bad but the team I worked with was great not complaints. Being a Transit Supervisor is a hard Gig you’re always on call and some of the situations can be dire unfortunately and those will stay with you. But no regrets I learned a lot and this company is always training their staff and that keeps you on your toes. I took a package and left early to pursue other goals but overall great company to work for.

Safety consciences, little stress and slightly below outside trade wages.

Getting to work, and drug and alcohol testing which the union is fighting.

Multi culture, and good work environment.

As a tradesman, we are on the road constantly.
