Taboo Resort Golf and Spa

It's sad because this place has the potential to be a great place to work.
First - if you don't have a vehicle don't apply. Housing was about 7 -10 km from the Resort. Although they inform you they don't offer transportation, they down played the situation. Not everyone is willing to give you a ride. Depending on the shift there may not be anyone going in the same time as you. Taxi service (only 2 companies) are over booked, unreliable and cost about $20-23 one way.

Second - in some departments staff turnover is horrendous. They want to be a luxury resort but they hire staff with no pervious experience. Their expectations are unreasonable and it feels like they set you up to fail.  

Third - Housing, as pervious mentioned is not at the Resort. For a single room the rate was $150.00 per week and a shared room was $85.00. Very expensive for the wage they pay. The place was not always clean. 

Fourth - management was young and unexperienced. They don't backup staff in some situations. Because of the inexperience, SOP changed frequently which caused confusion and frustration.  

Overall, there was a feeling of unrest and uncertainty. You were never sure if you had a job the next day of not.

This was a really awful place to work. Boring job. We had to sit in front of the pool for 8 hours a day and no one is a lifeguard. We did this to keep the kitty pool open. We weren't allowed to change the radio station from the top 40's to even the moose.  Hardest part of the job was when they made us do landscaping once. I had to water small grass hills on the beach. Boss broke the beach raker three times. Easiest part of the job was the entire job. It was horribly boring and mind numbing. Spa burnt down so there was no guests. No motivation. Not what I expected. Made me pay for my uniform. Expensive staff housing. No amenities. Dirty place to live. No staff get to know everyone thing. Management was bad and unorganized, never did what they said. You won't get that $1000 they promised at the beginning. Toxic environment.

It is unfortunate that those in upper management positions have become poor in organizational skills, communication skills (with employees and condo owners) and overall respect for their employees. What I thought was going to be an amazing contract year, turned into mental & physical health issues. Many lower managements are friendly and personable, as well the condo owners. 

They hire good people and run them until they're maxed out. Minimum pay, which is not fairly compensated for the amount of work you'll do. They expected so much for so little. 

Management needs an overhaul. Changes need to happen to ensure a more healthy and fun work environment.

The resort has nice amenities &  guest rooms, but my overall employee experience was disappointing. As a seasonal resort in a small town, staff turnover is high and it shows.. There was no accountability for repeat seasonal staff, which made the environment difficult for new staff. Staff housing was very clique-based, noisy until 4 am, and in need of maintenance and cleanliness improvements. This role may be useful for gaining short-term experience, but I would not recommend it beyond that.

Very hard work and early mornings, You work 12 days on 2 days off (every other weekend off) Room for progression, you start off pushing lawn mowers and raking bunkers and by the end of the season you're riding lawn mowers and driving a dirt devil in the sand bunker. Work Rain or shine and mean that. You will be in the middle of the course in 30+ weather or cutting grass in torrential down pours

For a new employee chance of being promoted within a season is high.
Its mostly seasonnal work.
Having decent staff housing helps. Shuttle available within reasonnable time before and after shift. 
It's tourism work so can be ungreatful work at times. The opposite is also true and more common.


Met some great people and had good staff accommodation where we always had fun hanging out as friends. People had issues with management but I never had any issues. The work was easy but came in waves when it came to custom demand. Overall good time nothing exceptionally good nor bad.

Productive, gained good overseas experience. Usually quite busy. Fast paced environment. Management was professional and somewhat balanced in between being liberal and conservative.

Supervisor had no respect for staff...no real pattern or cohesiveness 
Nothing free unless you are friends with upper staff
Staff get hurt and supervisor showed no concern

A lot of there work is very seasonal which can be hard for most people. Once they open full time again I would consider working there. But if your looking for full time year round I would not apply
