If you have IRATA coupled with a trade ticket there will be no ‘slow time of year’ for you. It’s helpful if you have a sense of humour/ go-with-the-flow flexibility to wrap your head around the supervisory structure.  The company is a rope access service provider first. Your rank is based on whether you are a level 1, 2 or 3 IRATA.  If you are an experienced tradesperson, but new to ropes, you’ll need to take a deep breath, because the guy in charge of the piping crew might have acquired his rope experience as an arborist or a window washer and it is perfectly acceptable for him to mentor regarding the rope experience you lack. The power imbalance is short lived when you explain a check valve has a flow direction & prove its right or wrong on a drawing. 🤣

Treated like a number and outcast if you don't fit in with the child like culture. They want young workers who have no experience in the industry so they can groom them which is unfortunate, some of these young guys could get an actual trade to make real money. 
Terrible, organized chaos management and unreliable work schedule. Very clicky and think they are better than every other contractor. 
Also, pay is very low considering the amount of risk one takes climbing ropes in dangerous areas within the plant, like come on, the client is saving over millions of dollars to have rope techs replace scaffolding companies?  Journeyman rate is $48 per hour plus $2.50 rope tech rate, completely an absurd rate for anyone to settle with in this economy. I would totally avoid Tacten if you want to make real money. 

Well....I think this company has no regard for a tradesman and treats their workers poorly!  There's rope techs with no relative trade experience trying to run a job!  Kind of like a safety person trying to tell you how to do your job!  The pay was good but is the headache worth it?  The rope tech's think they're super stars while they watch people rig crane loads then try to tell them how to do the job!  If you need work and your family is hungry then go for it!  There's nearly no Albertan trades people working there cause they only support East coast!  Once they find out you aren't East coast good luck!  But they lack qualified trades people so not sure why they won't hire from Alberta!?  Too much favouritism I suppose!

A few poor decisions by management led to some unnecessary and uncalled for bulls%*t and frustrated crew. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great crew and leadership in the field and plenty of work and overtime for the better part of a year..

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Make a job plan
Hang some ropes
Remove insulation/inspect pipes/ replace insulation while hanging from ropes
Retrieve ropes
Eat..sleep..repeat

What is the best part of working at the company?
Terrible company they have zero concern for they're workers and only care to please the client and the pay is way too low.


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Some of the level 3s aren't very good.
So being on they're ropes is dangerous. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They are clicky and push the workers to get more done.
Safety last.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Depends on the job most are rushed and severely unorganized and quite often dangerous.
I definitely do not recommend working for this company I spent 5 years there.

There are some really good tradesmen at this site but for newbie's starting here I wish you the best. If you can handle disorganization, humiliation, exclusion and psychological pressure this is the place for you. They purposely omit information relating to the job scope and RUSH you to perform a task while allowing others to take their time to perform their tasks on ropes. You will be expected to perform perfectly with no guidance or feedback,  all with a dirty, bitumen covered harness. There are many other Rope Tech companies with a heavy emphasis on safety and like minded  individuals. 

I enjoyed most of my time at Tacten was hired on as a shutdown worker.  Crews where awesome with great people.  It’s a great time to get your foot in the door for Rope Access.

Being on Ropes brings a whole new ball game to your trade. And is definitely a adrenaline rush some days.

Management was pretty good and listened when you had issues. Some days can be very unorganized and chaotic. Overall I would recommend I will really miss some of the people I got to work with.

Work life balance depends on whether or not you live in town and have your family present, or if you fly and fly out. As with a lot of industry Jobs, work life balance can be difficult when you're away from family. 
But the company facilitates the organization of travel. 
They were flexible with my needs overall. I worked a ton of overtime which was nice for the bank account, but hard for my personal life. 

Like any company things can be frustrating, some days are a complete waste others productivity is sky high.
I have seen different sides of Tacten the good and the bad. It really depends on what site you work at and where you sit on the experience level.
Tacten employees alot of experienced people,  if you go in as a rookie and talk big you better back it up quickly. 
My best advice is do what you can and be good at what you know don't fake it. Be honest with your team in return your team will take care of you.

Overall unpleasant place to work.  Treated like another number.  Jobs are always exaggerated and spotty.  Unqualified window washer running mechanical projects.  Safety culture is a joke.  Safety manager is more like a side show.  Try Mistras or RAC for a better experience.
