I was not payed enough for the job I was doing. Management was terrible and when voicing concerns about it, the blame was put on you. The owner of the store cares more about the manager than the employees. Complaints were made against manager, and nothing was done. I asked for more help and was told I had to either sign a contract on how I would behave or I would be fired. I walked out the door and never looked back. If you want to work for a company that does NOT have your back or your best interest in mind go ahead. i bet other stores are better than this one but this was unreal the treatment of its employees. The management does not do any of the hard labour and expects you to do it without breaks. The best part of the job was the customers and dogs. Discount was also fair too. But honestly none of that was worth it compared to the way myself and other staff members were treated. There are way too many expectations in place, and none of them were worth the wage. As previously stated, you are expected to do the hard labour because there are only really 2 staff members on shift at a time (10 hour shifts most of the time) and the other is the manager. So you are the front line worker, the stocker and the person who is expected to do everything. If you care about your mental health, and yourself please find another location or career. You are worth more than the minimum pay that is received.

The management is understanding and caring, they can be strict but for good reason, they need to trust their staff to know what they are talking about to help every Customer and their pet to help better the Animal's health by helping them with their diets. 

The most amazing thing about this job is getting to interact with animals at the store.

 I would have to say the hardest part about the job is Memory recall on all the products that could benefit certain sensitive guts in Pets. but there is also very knowledgeable Managers there that can always come and assist. Also challenging is when it gets very busy you could be on your own running into the freezers getting bigger boxes of Raw food (they can be heavy!) while you have a big line of customers waiting to be checked out, while the manager is busy on the phone with other customers or assisting with another client in the store and they want to know every product we have for their pet. but this only happens when someone calls in sick. usually there's three in the store.

I worked for the Etobicoke location prior to its management change, so I can only speak for that. I thoroughly enjoyed working here and loved every minute of it. 
Staff and management was always supportive and welcoming. Expectations were clear and not unreasonable. I made great friends with my coworkers and many customers over the years I worked there, and was able to help so many pets.
The only real downside was that it could get overwhelming sometimes with what you were expected to do with this position. Lots of product knowledge (food, supplements, treats, brands etc.), as well as knowing about the diet habits of both cats/dogs and potential medical conditions that a customers pet may have. Consultations were often over 30 mins and were on going every time the customer would come in, and you would have to remember where you left off with each one every time.
Regardless, if you loved pets and had a passion for nutrition, this was the place to be to work!

Amazing company for dog and cat lovers with a passion to learn about health &nutrition. Management at the Calgary store could be better, friendly but they don't give constructive criticism and cause lots of drama by talking about other employees behind their backs, no clear set of rules laid out to follow. I managed other retail stores before but was discouraged to bring up suggestions or ideas. I left the position because management style was too toxic and there was no place for advancement

I worked for around four months at Tail Blazers, and I loved the kind customers and getting to meet their dogs and cats. However, management was horrendous and I was constantly threatened that they would dock my pay, and was even told I wouldn't of been hired if they knew I had health problems in the first place. I am diabetic. There are laws protecting "disabled" people in the work force, and not hiring based on health is extremely illegal. It was extremely awful working for these people as I always felt mistrusted.

The manager there was very well organized. She was extremely nice to new employees, and customers. She goes way above and beyond for people! The co workers were awesome, made every day fun yet still got everything done on time. Got to entertain the kittens during the day, and meet new pets and their owners everyday.

I find Tail Blazers a perfect place to work. From there, you can get along with other worker and maybe your own boss or even get a discount on the things that you can buy for own pet if you have one. but the best part of the job is that you get to see and maybe play with customers pets.

I had to leave due to school, but I wish I could go back in an instant. You work with great people all trying to achieve the same things. They truly want to help you and your pet.  You leave work feeling so accomplished and you get to meet so many cute dogs!

As far as retail is concerned this place is a fun, relaxed work environment with lots of room for growth. Co-workers are friendly and everyone pulls together as a team. Ownership genuinely cares about their staff.

I enjoyed working here a lot, the management can be hit or miss as at any employer but overall a good bunch. Pay could be higher, particularly with the knowledge you have to gain to be able to sell the products.
