The only good thing about Tangerine was their culture, whatever that means anymore. All employees are now disgruntled that all of their counter-parts are leaving for jobs where companies treat them like actual human beings.

Specifically in IT, a typical day 8-4 was a non-stop, no break, work through your lunch, work large amounts of OT kind of day. Was pulling 60-80h a week and it came with absolutely no appreciation.

If you had personal engagements to attend after your already 8h shift (ie. go home to your family), you would be told that your work comes first and that you need to stay to finish whatever and then you MAY go home to your family when it's acceptable for your super/manager.

Projects were by the plenty and when the projects were assigned, they were already due 5 months ago. Once a project finished, the mentality was not to congratulate you on completing it, but to ask you to continue onto another one that was due 3 months ago. Timelines were extremely aggressive and never-ending.

Management was dog-eat-dog. A lot of the IT managers did not get along and tried competing against each other for respect from THEIR superiors, office morale at its absolutely LOW and it's not getting any better by any means. 

If you like to be constantly reminded that your job was on the line because you arent loyal enough, then this job is for you. It was a very negative work environment. The only thing that made it fun were normal non-management employees who stuck together and trained through this soul-sucking workplace.

Having any IT certifications for non-networking positions at Tangerine was frowned upon because those managers dont believe in schooling as a proper form of knowledge. They want experienced employees that know the practical work. If you ask about being sent for IT courses to receive a cert, expect to be denied because they feel it is useless and they FEAR that the only reason you get the cert is to leave and find a better job.

Lots of IT have quit, been let go, restructured, etc. It is no better in the rest of the company either from what I am hearing.

The pay is dismal. They do not compensate their employees well. The health benefits are expensive and you get barely any coverage. 
Everyone that leaves finds something better that pays at least 25% more because Tangerine has very poor competitive pay rates. They do not comply at all with current job scales of IT positions.

IT contractors are payed almost 30-40% more than real hard-working employees who do 50% more work and are expected to out-perform contractors. 

Forget about advancing or moving up in this company. If your Super/Team Lead isnt leaving to another team or job, you arent moving. It is a very very short ladder up to the CIO so expect to be stuck in your same mindless/soul-less position for years. 

Tangerine IT is mainly used now as a stepping stone to get you better IT jobs elsewhere.. 

The only good thing I can say about Tangerine is because of their aggressive timelines and project implementations, they do have some of the latest and greatest technology running the bank. All computers are new and fast (i5/i7), laptops are top-of-the-line with SSDs, operating systems are up to date (No more XP, lots of people on Win 7, even Win 8.1), mostly all servers are Server 2012 with extremely fast networking switches and state-of-the-art infrastructure... Of course this all comes at the expense of draining out their employees of all of their life and bleeding their souls dry because every project implemented is to upgrade the one you just completed.

If you want to work in a very up-to-date IT environment with not as much ancient applications and infrastructure, Tangerine is the place for you, but it comes with a price, your soul.

Remote work without the perks and enjoyment of working from home since you're glued to your desk and must be in a closed door room. 

It's a classic call center environment. Low pay, high turnover, too many calls. Terrible hours. They provide the equipment (although it is *terrible* and outdated hardware; in my 1.5 months at Tangerine my computer was replaced twice). 

They expect you to manage your own time and be adults, yet will break down your every move and treat you like you're a child. 

The phone keeps ringing and your mic is automatically live/answers the call when it comes in. Unreasonable. You can't even take a moment to cough, pick up the pen you dropped, wipe your nose, finish a sip of water, etc. 

Need to transfer a call to a supervisor per client's request? The supervisor will answer your call with "clients name?". No "hello" , no "how can I help?", no "what's going on?". Very cold, miserable and off putting. 

You're tracked down to the second and so micromanaged. Forget about having genuine customer interactions! You'll spend your calls focusing on making sure you don't lose "quality" marks. 

The training classroom was actually fun for the most part - good teachers. Unfortunately they did allow too many classmates to hyjack the discussion with irrelevant questions or would spend too much time on the 1 individual (out of 19) that wasn't understanding the content.  Cameras were expected to be on all day during class time. If you turned the camera off briefly, you would get a message asking what is going on or the trainer would ask in front of the class. Respect people's privacy... humans often need moments of privacy not on camera. I personally didn't enjoy seeing my classmates eat, cough, sneeze, blow their nose (one even did this WITH THE MIC on). 

Day before I was live on the lines for the first time, I was subjected to a humiliating "hot seat roleplay" in front of my classmates. The trainer was unnecessarily harsh and did not allow for me to ask questions, even after I stated that I was struggling due to the situation of having the class watching me. Then we got to watch another classmate go through the same. 

This scenario actually triggered a preexisting health condition for me due to the stress and anxiety. It really sucks because I was genuinely excited for the job, was loving it and have a drive for customer service. 

I resigned following this. We're humans, not your circus monkeys. I'll find an employer that understands respect and boundaries.

On paper, a low level role (CSR) with Tangerine is great. If you are working 2 jobs, are in school, or are recently in the workforce the pay is great. They are accommodating with busy schedules and the benefits are good. But, quality of management is severely lacking, at least at the location I worked at. Professionally speaking, management was quite poor; inefficient day-to-day processes, little care for on-site security even after multiple incidents, and an unwillingness to deal with problems like customer complaints. In regards to non-professional matters, (this does not apply to all management, just one outlier) the main problems were an inability to act objectively, and occasional racist comments. These remarks included opinions on driving abilities, saying "your people", and referring to employees by their apparent background. I'm sure other locations do not have this problem, but the fact that this and all of the other issues was allowed to happen because of a lack of oversight and review by upper management ruined my experience. This does not mean that the people at Tangerine are mean, or bad people - they were all perfectly charming, good people who maybe either weren't suited for management, weren't given the right tools to manage, or lacked sufficient oversight and review. If you are looking for an entry level role, like a lot of down time, and don't want to move up, this pays about 15-20% more than a competitive position so it may be good for you. But if you are someone who likes a neat, efficient, high-quality workplace with room for advancement regardless of pay then this is not for you.

Having worked there for 10 years is no joke. The place used to be an amazing experience everyday. I would mostly end up not using my vacation days as I enjoyed working there because of the people, culture and management. But ever since it was bought out by Scotia everything turned upside down. It used to be great but not anymore.

They micromanage employees without any management direction. They do annual reviews that makes employees think they earned something. But it really means nothing. As they can change your role to entry level without any reason apart from the fact that Scotia bank took over. Management is either dishonest or clueless, trying to assure you that "your jobs are safe" but they can let you go anytime (which happened right away after Scotia take over). Favoritism is the new culture unfortunately apparent and experienced it too.On phones there is a line up of never ending calls. Even managers and operations have to jump on calls. No forecasting or in proper words no management. Some managers portray themselves as some kind of Pharaoh. 

Bonuses are peanuts and hard to achieve now.
If it was 7-8 years ago, I'd have my children work there, but now I would'nt even refer my mother in law to work there.

The only good thing about the place that has always been there is its people (employees). Management is mostly zombie-mode and has to follow a path drawn from up above regardless of what goes around them. Oh yes.. and free parking is great too. If you need a part time job, then go for it, but its not something I'd recommend anymore after my experience.

It is all about who know  in Tangerine. Just ,dont speak up , say yes to everything and you will see yourself at the top. 
Dont challenge, or else you will be on the bad books.
Ever since they have launched new tools for contact center everything has been failing. Everyday is system issues when taking calls. Non stop calls, employee are disengaged, turn over is higher. Feels like everyone is watching your move. Managers are busy going to meetings and taking calls. New management  recently wants managers and suport staffs to take calls during busy tine and peak season, you must be kidding me! Managers and other support staff are treated like a back up staff so they dont have to hire new associates.why not forecast and hire a back up agents?  Very sneaky way of controlling budget. No direction, no vision ,tangerine will go down soon.. Very soon with everything is being broken from system, tools, politics and inexperience management leading without a clue. 
Stay away from tangerine and save yourself.

started there as an inbound specialist, had a few advancements over the years. at first i was amazed with the culture at tangerine, it was fun going to work and i met a lot of great people

than after the leadership changed several times in a span of a year there were a lot of subtle changes. now Scotia bank is integrated more and more into day to day of tangerine

benefits were cut down, some eliminated completely

when you first start there you may end up with a schedule that has you working evenings including weekends and it may take a long time for that to change - schedule is based on a rotating basis for 2 months using your performance from the last period to determine your position in whats know as a shift bid. depending on time of year the bidding process could be better or worse

Be prepared to work all holidays during the first 12+ months as the center is open 364 days a year 

overall tangerine was great than it just became good/manageable

still a great place to work if you want to get some banking experience and you will have opportunities to move up

Overall, this is a well-run company with supportive management and a positive team environment. Training is structured, expectations are clear, and most KPIs are achievable. However, some metrics don’t always reflect the realities of a typical call, which can create pressure.
While aspects of the role are similar to many call centers, it requires substantial knowledge of the financial industry and internal processes, making it more complex than it may initially appear. Contrary to what I was told when I got hired, opportunities for back-office roles are practically non-existent.

Compensation is fair enough however, considering the role and the nature of the business, a higher salary might boost retention. The company itself is solid — the role just wasn’t the right long-term fit for me. I would recommend it to someone comfortable in a fast-paced, metric-driven environment.

This company is extremely disorganized and constantly downsizing because they’re going through a corporate takeover. Scotia bought ING Direct in 2012 and they’ve been eliminating redudancies ever since. As a result they just keep expecting more and more out their employees as things get worse. They’ve lost 2 in house CEOs in a 2 year span and now have a newly installed CEO from Scotia at the helm. Things will be getting exponentially worse in the coming months/years until it will more than likely be closing its doors in 2021, at the end of the 10 year contract they signed with the NB government. At which time they’ll ship all the calls to Scotia’s already established bilingual call centre in Scarborough. They’ve been incrementally moving department after department to Scotia control and axing the positions in Moncton. And it’s showing bo signs of stopping.

Save yourself the trouble of having to bail from a sinking ship in two years. Go work for a stable bank like TD or RBC.

There is so much you learn every day it is not possible to list everything. We have backup(if you are a frontline agent) managers and supervisors, so you are not left out in the cold after training.
A workplace you are very happy to go to every day you are scheduled in. You enjoy your day uninterrupted. The only difficult thing is when you have a client who is upset. It is an online bank, so if you are not familiar with Technology, it might not be your kind of bank.
It is very often clients are very happy with our service. Tangerine Bank has won the customer service award 11years in a row for mid-size Banks. Last year we were just below RBC.So, ALL in ALL, it deserves more than a five star. I wish I had gone there years ago. Before I left the marketing dept., employee engagement was rated at an all-time low. VPs, Directors and managers are trying to cover their butts to justify their jobs to Scotiabank owners. I found my inline bosses untrustworthy and disloyal. As a whole, my colleagues were nice; however, they're under big pressure too! As far as I'm aware, many employees are trying to get out of there! 

Location at Steeles Ave. East and Hwy 404 is inconvenient. Luckily there is a cafeteria on premises. I would not work there again! If you're desperate for a job in the middle of nowhere - take it, even though the compensation may not be top notch. Overall, use a job here as a transition spot until something better comes along - likewise, your bosses will be also using you until you're no longer convenient to serve their needs.
