Super difficult to do your job as nobody knows what your job is either and training is non-existent. Long hours, open to close 5-6 days a week. Don’t have the luxury of not being harassed by staff and management on days off, after hours, or in the middle of the night. Pay is VERY low for a management position. The hardest part of the job had to be the plain disrespect of the owner, being told “you better talk to those employees because you’ll say it nicer than I will” on multiple occasions. The owner will yell & scream & make an absolute fool of himself, for you not knowing something you haven’t been taught. For the most part, the workplace culture is mediocre as long as you manage to steer clear of the owner. A typical day at work consisted of doing all the jobs they couldn’t find other staff to do, stocking shelves, running cash registers, working in the bakery (even though those weren’t your jobs), doing other tasks that should be handled by staff in specific departments (cleaning container freezers for frozen food and bakery department). Reporting of almost everything to the Store Manager is also required, but don’t report too much or you’ll be “complaining”. Trying to quit your job is also difficult as they are so desperate for staff that they wont let you leave. Adios.

The only positive of this workplace is the decent hours. Pretty easy to get on full time if you work hard and it's nice that they aren't open late.

However, the main issue of working here is that they can't seem to get their act together and show any kind of gratitude or incentive to their employees who do work hard. I never received a raise or any kind of benefits. If you ask for a certain schedule or days off, even for good and legitimate reasons, you're made to feel bad and basically told "you're lucky you get the days off that you do".

They really just like to push their employees to the edge and see how far they can go in taking advantage of them. It explains the huge amount of employee turn-around they see. And the poor employees who are left are responsible for picking up the pieces and dealing with the aftermath of problems.

Overall it's high stress (very busy store at times), your job can be unpredictable as they'll likely throw you into whatever role in whatever department is needed at the time (maybe even at their other store which is a half an hour drive away), and there are no incentives to working here. If you show yourself to be diligent and loyal to the company, they won't care... they'll just take advantage of you.

I was at TOC threw Christmas and thanksgiving I understand stressful holidays with my culinary background so I let go being called names my management, and then the new year rolled around with my promised review where I could ask for a raise, and the review never happened, and management didn’t change at all. In the time I was there I never so much as got a thank you from my manager, They proceeded with the belittling & had no clue what was going on on the floor. They expect you to keep the other store full aswell as yourself and don’t provide the list that is needed until less then an hour of going. The only good part about the job was the other staff there, they all became friends and we could joke around, but again management didn’t like that.  

A typical day working at taste of country was beyond stressful, management is condescending and unprofessional. The only thing I learned there is how NOT to treat staff...

Workplace culture was non existent, management did not encourage emoloyee engagement, and never tried to foster a sense of belonging for their employees. They also had absoluty NO communication skills.  Either the general manager, nor the office administration manager.  

The hardest part of the job was wanting to stay after getting yelled at in front of guests or made to feel like a complete idiot because you asked a question....

The easiest part was putting in my notice.  

The work environment of this business is just unhealthy across the board. They cut corners everywhere, when it comes to cleanliness in the workplace and the unfair treatment of their employees which is unprofessional and at times, just plain toxic. You can have the best intentions but still get reamed out and downright demeaned for nothing. Also raises in this place are unheard of. Bottom line: They expect you to move mountains for them but will give you nothing in return.

Clear direction is never provided and communication is a real issue.   Expect to insulted by manager and constantly thrown under the bus as a result of her miscommunication.   The owner will treat you like a bug that needs to be squashed.     If you enjoy being micromanaged to the point your bathroom break is timed, overworked, under paid and unfit working conditions then this is a good fit.    


Barely been at the store for 6 months and I've been left countless times with no backups for cash, was hired on as stock and am continuously left at the till for shifts. Was hired at full time because I needed the hours and management likes to just screw around with your hours with no explaining. Management makes you feel so lost because they can't even stick you in one position. They throw you into a bunch of random positions because they never have enough staff for the days. 

I would not recommend anyone to work here ... They tell you one thing and do the complete opposite .. the management is very poor and other staff members are not very friendly .. within first week there I was breaking up arguments between other employees .. other employees constantly talking about others ..  it's a very stressful place to work and I would not recommend anyone to work there 

A typical day at work consisted of stocking the freezers and shelves and helping customers with questions and concerns. Most of the employees were fun and entertaining to work with but it could be a very stressful job between the time crunch of the job itself when it got busy and the unorganized management.

Better know what you're doing right from the start or you will be fired during your first shift. The supervisor is well known as extremely difficult to work for.
