Ted Baker

I came into Ted Baker without any retail experience besides from working in a grocery store and my assistant store manager knowing this did his absolute best to make sure I felt confident that I can do anything I set my mind to all day and was definitely successful. I'm usually the quiet person for my  first few days until I really get a hang of things but this team got me opened up and being myself within my first few hours of being there.  I've never felt like I had an actual family at work that would have my back no matter the day, time or situation. Knowing my goals for the future, my management team always kept me in mind when they came across anyones path who could help me get to where I want in life, and thanks to them I landed myself an amazing job which is a stepping stone for my career. I'm so thankful and appreciate everything that this job came across my path and I'm so glad that I had a chance to build a lasting relationship with these amazing individuals that I still keep in touch with everyday even after I've been gone for about six months. I left the store in tears that I had to move on but I know that they are all still in my life and I could never thank them enough for all that they have taught me and helping me grow into the person I could not have become without them.

Initially the team was great! But there was a change in management that changed the dynamics between workers. The manager's way of providing "feedback" has an underlining of shame and will call you out directly infront of your peers when not necessary. Worker's availability was not respected, and there are high expectations despite being paid minimum wage and having little to no benefits as a part timer. I was reprimanded for not taking shifts when others couldn't come in despite having been told it was okay at the time. The new manager started micromanaging to an uncomfortable degree, reprimanding when you do your best despite gaps in training (how do you know to ask when you've become accustomed to working on the floor however you can after being supposedly fully trained?) with language that felt passive aggressive. 

Despite the worker discount there is no incentive, i saw no bonus while i was there. We would sell very well and still be told we were not doing good enough as workers. 

The manager is unsubtle with favoritisms, i could tell he did not like me by a tone he took with me unnecessarily multiple times before my termination. 
The same was with other floor managers. It's okay to not like someone but to be treated drastically different from coworkers because i'm not liked is unpleasant and immature. 

Most of my coworkers were a joy to work with, which makes the change sad. 

The location is Toronto Eaton Centre. Initially, the team I worked with was supportive, and for a few months, the workplace and management were great. However, when there is a change in management, everything is deteriorating. The new manager created division among employees and removed the previously flexible schedule, making it rigid. We were required to report to work even on sick days, with no option to call in sick, regardless of our health. The environment became heavily micromanaged, with false accusations and instances of favoritism and office politics. The high turnover rates at the Eaton Centre location can be attributed to these issues. Moreover, there are no part-time employee benefits except a small discount on clothing and zero job security. It takes a toll on my mental health and so many others. Would not recommend this company and especially this location to any job seekers. 

Working for Ted Baker Yorkdale has been one of the most unprofessional jobs I’ve worked.  If they don’t like you for the smallest reason that’s completely irrelevant to your work ethic, don’t be surprised when they make stuff up about you and try and scare you by making you think they’ll fire you or let you go. They did this to a couple girls. The turnover rate here is very high and they are very dishonest to customers. Many of my coworkers quit on the spot because the management is extremely poor. Same thing goes to Eaton centre. I worked both. The clothes are still very expensive even with the discount. They will make you wear all Ted Baker yet will only pay you minimum wage. Save your resume copy and apply somewhere else that’s more secure.

What is the best part of working at the company?
There is no best part other than the nice people i worked with . Upper management is pretty messed up  and not supportive at all. They talk about values but yet they  do everything in their power to make you feel unvalued in many different ways. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Unrealistic goals that does not match reality . Very high goals in january when everybody in retail knows how tough this month is for businesses.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Stressful and very unorganized

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
There is a lot to do everyday from daily tasks to reporting to submitions just a lot.

When I first started working at Ted, I absolutely loved how everyone in the staff was so inviting and friendly. It made the work atmosphere so great to be in, and I would have never thought that I would leave that store. Come time to October, our manager left and then went under new management. Obviously, we always have to become accustomed to change because not all good things last. This new manager that came in, was absolutely terrible. She created this whole divide between the workers, made employees feel like S***, and didn't even how to do basic operations in the store. She was more of a dictator than a leader. Logic isn't her strong suit.

Working with Ted has been such a positive experience, it's fun, challenging and innovative. Differences are celebrated and they are always open to new feedback and ideas. The District Manager is supportive and very human, always ready to lend a helping hand in difficult situations. They will go above and beyond to ensure your success. Although it is hard work and you have to be ready to put in the hours, none of it goes unnoticed and recognition is always around the corner. Best job I've ever hard hands down.

I met a lot of customers come so excited to buy new luxury clothes with great prices, I learned to know what the person style first to guide her/him to choose which items will fit them nicely and avoid  frustrated by not being tried different styles 🙂☺️ my passions for helping people to be happy with what they would by from our store to come back again.

They do not hire for skill they hire for availability
Training is sparse and confusing.  New hires are trained by other employees 
Management needs to update their skills
The hardest part of the job is being expected to give great results with little to no support from the company and/or management
 There is no room for advancement 

I liked the company before it decided to change images to cater to a much younger demographic. The clothes just look like every fast fashion brand out there now, and it’s a shame because they used to be very original and quirky. As far as working there now, I’m still making minimum wage after many years there, and it doesn’t seem like there are opportunities for advancement.
