I was at Teknion for over a year on contract and while I learned a lot about the furniture industry, I learned how fast and disorganized this company was.  The company itself is growing rapidly than it can keep up with, which means a lot of the resources, processes and training are far behind.  I found I had to train myself and figure things out on my own, which as a young resourceful employee, I was motivated to take on that challenge.   However, I received very little support or understanding over my lack of knowledge and felt like a burden to ask for more guidance as many of my co-workers were far too busy to assist.  I felt I was left in the dark, isolated and alone while in this position.  From managing retail stores I am no stranger to that, however, the lack of resources did not contribute to a work life balance I had long desired working in an office.  The culture amongst all women, was inspiring at first, but turned out to be filled with competitiveness, insecurity and caddy women.  I worked my tail off to show my work ethic and to hopefully be hired on full-time but was left with the run around being placed permanently within their office or their third party dealerships.  As a result I was extended month to month and resorted to finding permanent employment elsewhere.  I strongly urge all to avoid the headache and stress of this company, I was not the only person to come and go and I don't think, I will be the last either.

Teknion started off as a great opportunity for me. The people there were friendly and helpful. At least it seemed that way. As time went on in my 3 years there, you came to realize that from the top down that it wasn't friendly and helpful but more so they used you and took care of their own. Tenure at Teknion is large across the board. Many employees with 20+ years experience, that only have each others backs and not those of new employees. They arent the smartest set co-workers and are threatened by new blood and new ideas. Their systems and processes are very old but in the end their change management across the board is very weak and close minded. I would not recommend anyone to work for this organization. It's a dead end opportunity with no growth opportunity. Your ideas and work will go unnoticed and only the "club members" of the Old Country Club mean anything in that organization. If your looking for a job to be taken advantage of, Teknion is for you.

I had the opportunity to work at Teknion Ltd., and I experienced a truly positive and supportive work culture. The company promotes teamwork, respect, and professionalism at every level. Management is approachable and values employee input, creating an environment where everyone feels heard and appreciated. Clear communication and well-defined expectations helped me perform my responsibilities efficiently and confidently.

The organization also encourages continuous learning and skill development, helping individuals grow both personally and professionally.

What stood out most was the strong sense of collaboration among team members. Colleagues are supportive and willing to assist one another, making the workplace welcoming and productive. Overall, my experience at Teknion Ltd. was very positive, and I truly value the professional growth and teamwork I gained during my time there.


Compensation is not merit-based; high performers are compensated at the same level as those meeting only the baseline requirements, which offers little incentive for excellence. Furthermore, the promotion pipeline is overly rigid, prioritizing specific academic credentials over proven, hands-on professional performance. There is also a clear geographic bias: staff based at the head office are consistently positioned for advancement, while experienced talent at inter-plant locations is frequently overlooked. This reliance on hiring external, entry-level graduates rather than developing internal experts has created a stagnant environment for high-contributing staff.

I worked at Teknion from February 1990 up to April 2011.  I learned mainly valuable skills that I can take with me anywhere in the job market.  There are many friends that I made during my time there of I still have regular contact.

When I started at Teknion it a relatively young company which gave everyone who worked there the opportunity to form processes and procedures.  This gave us the feeling of empowerment as we knew we helped the company succeed with our ideas and contributions.

As the company grew so did the management base which always brings change and challenge for everyone.  The family spirit remained though and so did the opportunity to learn and grow.

This was a great job for me and I cherish the people who I still have contact with.

This really is a great company! Everyone is friendly, supportive and just a pleasure to work with, even people you don't know say good morning and good evening with a smile on their face every day.
Great opportunities to advance in your career within the company, the managers and HR actually promote that. Flexible work hours, interaction with many people in several departments, transparency and open communication.
It's a Canadian and family owned company and the President/CEO manages it greatly..!

Teknion is a wonderful organization that offers a nice work pace for most positions. It is a large family run business that runs like a small company which adds the family feel to the environment and culture. I left the organization thinking there were better opportunities out there, it was a decision I regret. Decisions are slow to be made, but they do encourage entrepreneurial spirits and welcome suggestions on improving processes. 
Great managers, would be nice to have more employee related events to improve or build teams cross functionally. I was lucky to interact with the different teams in my role.

The great thing about the team that I worked with was that they are a very tight-knit team. It's a great place to work if you're fresh out of college/university. It's a stepping stone for many workers who just stepped into the job industry. Many young professionals work there for a couple of years and move on.

There is high turnover with an average tenure of less than a year. This speaks for itself. It was a hot topic once I joined and I only wish I had known this before accepting the job offer. The work culture of management includes verbal abuse even in front of others and micromanaging to the point of not allowing others to express opinions. If you have a mean or rude side to you, then you'll fit right in and Teknion is the place for you.
