Terraprobe is a run-of-the-mill engineering consulting firm. There are hundreds of such businesses out there, and there is no real benefit to working here over the competition. 

Unfortunately, there are no benefits to considering a long term career with this company. With low pay, long hours, poor benefits (which you will have to pay half the monthly premium for if you choose to sign up), no paid time off (other than what is mandated by law), minimal raises, and limited scope in projects undertaken, junior employees will have to look elsewhere to get the career advancement they desire.

My advice to junior engineers is this: should you accept a position with this company, never stop looking for your next opportunity, even from your very first week of work.

My advice to management: you need to implement major changes in your management and HR policies ASAP. Otherwise, the company will can only shrink as you are unable to attract / retain talent. There will be no-one to replace Principals and Associates as they retire.

Once the current older principals retire it could be a good company but right now the controlling older ones are not qualified.  At least half a dozen staff are not needed and their salaries could be used to retain good employees.  No performance reviews which is good for the bad performers but bad for over achievers as there is also no advancement possibilities.  Terrible benefit package that you have to pay half of.  No sick days. Holiday mandatory shutdown vacation days used. The principals are so busy inter fighting that it carries down to the whole staff.  Some admin staff don't even have high school education and hardly work. Some employees cannot even speak basic English. Turnover is high in some groups unless you are a substandard employee and then they never get rid of you.  This is not a place for high performing staff at any level.

Salary for most jobs here are below average.  They don't tell you how bad the benefit package is and that you have to pay for part of it in any case.  Yearly salary increase is across the board and not on merit.  Some principals are really good teachers but half of them are control and micro manager freaks that just don't listen to what the staff says because they think they know everything and yet cannot understand why they cannot keep good staff.  There are some staff just taking up space and salary.  Unfortunately it is a company that believes "This is what we've always done" and there is no progressive thought and no positive HR direction.

I didn't mind there was a lot of driving to and from job sites. I met a lot of different people performing this job and found that was usually one of the good things that I enjoyed working there.
I performed quality testing and inspections on construction sites and gave consulting where needed.

- managing files and getting along with people
- Principal and Vice-President were understanding 
- some co-workers helped me tremendously
- dealing with some employees who were not very cooperative
- working for Vice President

People are nice there. You can learn new things there when you're just starting out. You travel to different construction sites to test soil, construction materials, concrete, and asphalt. They do raffles for baseball, basketball, football, and hockey games. They also have a yearly dinner near the end of the year.

Management didn't give recognition for a job well done. Very low salary, very low salary increases once a year. I had to ask for a proper increase in order to get a bit more from what I deserved.

            If you are working because you like it then ok but if you are needing money then many other places to work with better pay. I enjoy the family atmosphere and close to home - no commute. 
If you have to report to head office it is very confusing as to who you are answering to. 

Gained phenomenal experience in all positions.  There is alot of opportunity for advancement in the field as there are entry positions all the way to senior roles in which they train very well.

Good stepping stone to gain experience and move on. Felt like an extension of highschool. Management wasn't proactive in resolving issues or making improvements and HR is non-existent.
