The Big Apple

Lots of hours to be offered in the summer months, but little to none in the winter months. Ridiculously busy in the on season, not big enough lay out for the amount of traffic that flows into the place with the hundreds of tour busses that pass through. You're almost always short staffed, only entitled to one half hour break regardless of the amount of hours you work, and expected to give up every single weekend of your summer without question. 

Good staff aren't often appreciated, and others who do little to nothing are praised. Negative workplace, that seriously lacks morale and common courtesy. Most members of management are quite ignorant and have no regard for the concerns of their staff. It's a good summer job for students looking to save some cash and leave at the end of the summer. However, not a great work environment for anyone who is interested in sticking around a while or attempting to advance within the company.

This place is great for the hours and it’s a good summer/weekend job for teens or people who want steady hours but that’s about it. Management is a joke, employees are worked like dogs and not fully prepared for the amount of responsibility and labour this job requires. Staff are severely underpaid considering the amount that’s expected of them and when they speak up about it they're ignored. This has been an ongoing problem for years and this place has lost many good employees because of it. Supervisors/management seem to forget that there is a bakery, kitchen, candy shop, food trucks and much more that need to be ran, we are severely understaffed and the staff we do have is extremely overworked and underpaid

The job itself is great. The management is terrible. They expect you to work every day of the week for 12 hours in the summer and only want to provide 1 unpaid 30 minute break. They want you to constantly lift 50KG bags unlike their job listing which states 25lbs far less than 50KG. They do not care about health and safety. The lift for the bakery is broken and they expect staff to push heavy racks full of pies up the ramp. If you want your back and shoulders to ache for the rest of your life this is the place for you. If they updated some equipment and gave things proper maintenance this could be a great job. Also management will constantly bother you outside of work among many other disappointments.

Actually the worst place to work. Manager and HR not professional and no one to go to as HR goes back to Manager and problem escalates. Too much stuff to list, but not a good place to work unless you are young in school and this is a part time job as it has lots of hours to give especially as a summer job. Looks fun for customers but employees are not treated nicely and over worked as they do multiple jobs not in their job description as they are always short staffed.

Best smelling workplace ever, always smells like fresh apples. Usually busy to make the days got fast. Seasonal work, so winters can be slow, but management is usually flexible and accommodating for second jobs if needed. Sometimes there's took many 'cooks in the kitchen' with leadership, but within the department, management is usually good. Most customers are friendly and enjoy their time there, making it a positive workplace. Great for a summer job especially students, PLUS a free pie a week!

The place was extremely busy and not well organized to keep up with the amount of customers and management was constantly an issue.

Everyone was very close with one another. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Would get into work and have to rush to get ready for the day full of constant screaming and stress from everyone.

Terrible environment! Management are very rude and disrespectful! Always yelling and swearing at employees aswell as playing favourites! Constant drama and rumors being spread by not even coworkers/employees but MANAGEMENT!
Breaks are awful and are given to you based on how management feels towards you that day 

The only pro to working here is you get a lot of hours in the summer time but in the winter time you get next to none.

The Big Apple was and is an extremely busy tourist attraction. Baking hundreds of pies and a wide range of goodies on site. Customer Service was very well expected and utilized with this job. The tasks were fast paced and time sensitive. Hundreds of new faces daily from all over the Country. The staff was like a family and overall was a great experience working for them.

I worked there for quite awhile and I delt with a lot, everywhere from angry customers to short tempered managers. While all places will have not so good managers I would say that if you don't work in the kitchen you would be fine. Everybody who worked in other departments loved their jobs but being in the kitchen it was always a thing of when can I leave etc

The culture is quite toxic due to issues as bad as physical harassment and violent and aggressive speech being tolerated and ignored by management so as "not to upset anyone". The Apple employs people on a continuous never ending "part-time" basis with zero chance of actual full time in order to avoid ever paying any benefits to their workers.
