The Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf

I worked as Prep cook at Bob Rumball Center for the Deaf in Toronto, Ontario.

BRCD is a place for Deaf people to go to. It have Senior nursing home and daycare for children. There are several programs for Deaf people to check in.

I used to prep all food and cook, to have it ready by lunch for all people work at BRCD and senior people, children. I invent some menu to make it interesting for people to try and taste.

I done the inventory on food items and track the budget form to watch how much it spent money on food and things, counting money as well. I also file the papers and sent it to the manager.

I learn to have all food ready by lunch exact on time. 

enjoyable part of the job was meeting new people and make new friends.

most hardest part of the job was lifting heavy items from truck to the fridge and freezer and make bulk food to have things ready.

I enjoy with people, and I support them when they need help. I always helped them. I cooked them, and I helped with their dress clothes. I washed their apt floors, etc. I drove them to go to their appointments and supported them. I can manage their schedules or the last minute to change it. I always use sign language for communication.



A typical day at work is waking up myself and all my campers in the morning at 7:00 for breakfast and making sure everyone has taken their medications. I learned that you cannot treat all campers the same, as some campers may need more attention than others due to physical or mental complications.

Very busy with appointments as we deal with people who are considered to be Dual Diagnosis and other behaviors and health problems.

Minimum 5 hour meeting a day

Nothing and no enjoyment. Hard healing with deaf people. They don’t understand culitire value of work.

Dealing with deaf people and delay work assignments.

No enjoyable, stress, toxic and talk about other people

i always arrive work 15 minutes early. the completion of timportant tasks.
I learned a lot of clients' behavior, do the medicine, Petty cash and more.
time management is excellent.
I love to travel with my clients and staffs. it was so much funh

Working at Bob Rumball was an amazing experience. From visiting residence to serving lunch to organizing daily activities. Never got bored and never wanted to leave!

HR doesn’t care about staff’s well being and union is weak… good culture for deaf people that about it! I know it hard for deaf people to find job somewhere else biut if possible try stay away from this.
