The British Army

Working within the forces is a very demanding and rewarding experience and I have very much enjoyed my time within this organisation.
The life experience and technical development with continuous personal development is second to none.  the only reason after 15 years of leaving is to provide a better quality of life for my family as I have spent 1800+ days apart from my family throughout my career.
The most demanding and rewarding part of my career is the numerous Operational deployments around the world (Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan) and carrying out your job in the kinetic climate it posses.

Over seeing all food production on the camp
ordering of all food items in barracks and Training exercises.
Training and promotion of staff. Military and civilian.
conduct food safety audits of all catering premises on Camp.
visiting different country's around the world, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan, Norway. Liaising Daily with civilian contractors ensuring that the contract is being fulfilled.
meeting with customers ensuring that they are being catered for to the highest level possible.

A typical day at work consists of waking up in the early morning doing a hard physical training session, vehicle maintenance, communications equipment maintenance and fault finding, managing of stock incoming and outgoing, as well as organizing of the team to achieve our days goals in terms of time keeping and job allocation. hardest part of the job is keeping on schedule with the tight timings required by supply and demand of equipment. most enjoyable is our downtime and the travel experience

Day to Day work within the army was never the same and I had to learn very quickly to be able to improvise in order to complete any task I was set to.

The main things I learned from my experience with the armed forces was how to improvise very quickly and how to adjust to any situation as we worked all hours of the day.

the Hardest part of my job was probably the most enjoyable at the same time which was being attached to different units and being able to work by myself or train others to know the basics in order for them to help.

The British Army officer career has been fantastic, combining real breadth of roles.  It is an organisation tat has undergone significant and protracted change over the past 5-10 years.  It's greatest strength is its people - the Army ethos engenders robustness, ingenuity, self-discipline and an intimate understanding of teamwork.

Promotion prospects good, travelling opportunities excellent, salary good. Family accommodation subsidized. Excellent medical and dental services for the you and your family. The role is not suitable for everyone which requires a minimum standard of physical fitness. A large proportion of time spent away from family from time to time.

I will not waffle about my beloved Regiment, the Men of the Parachute Regiment defined themselves in every theatre of operation as the most proffesional group I have ever had the pleasure of serving with. I am proud to have served my country with this dynamic group of Men who trully are each and every one an Emperor.

A typical day at work would be marching, cleaning weapons and keeping fit.

I learned to be self disciplined and self dependent

workplace culture varies from situation to situation.

The hardest part of the job was the 1.5 mile run with 40kg bag weight on back.

the most enjoyable part of the job was the gun shooting practice and assault prevention training.

Was based out in BATUS as part of a Transport and Movement team, it can be very fast paced with a load of last minute situations or emergencys.

We were taking care of all the exercising groups that were posted in along with all of the other permanent staff and temporary staff.

It can be long hours, but enjoyable when everyone helps out.

Best decision of my life, would not change anything. 
Learn so much.
Very rewarding.
Gained so many skills.
A career which trains you and prepares you for not only pressures of military life but for life in general. So many skills and experience available to give you a career in almost any area.
