The Cleaning Authority

This job isn’t worth it. The hourly start dropped by a dollar. Never enough time in houses, even when reported to the office nothing changes. The company asks us to do way too many things for the time they want to give us. Office contradicts itself. Sometimes as cleaners, in people’s homes, the office will get us to talk to them about payments and/or staying longer. Which is the offices job, not the cleaners. Some of the girls speak negatively about customers homes while in them. Sometimes complaints aren’t taken seriously. Job tickets do not get read, most of the employees just assume in homes. The equipment isn’t good. Vacuums break and don’t get repaired quickly. You pay into your benefits, I’ve paid more into my benefits then I’ve actually used. You do not and will not get a living wage or full time hours at this job. They want you for full time availability but only give you part time. All vocalization of hours will fall into deaf ears. Cloths do not get cleaned properly and no colour code system. Yes, toilets clothes will be used on your kitchen counter. Cleaning toothbrushes are not labeled, against toilet brushes on your kitchen counter. I would not recommend working or even hiring this company. 

The Cleaning Authority is a great place to work if you can handle it. You're on a tight schedule, and it involves a lot of heavy lifting (carrying supplies from and to your car and the house being cleaned), bending, and sometimes getting into a shower or bath tub to clean. I have encountered some truly disgusting households in my time. You're randomly inspected while at a house, and every time the house is first brought onto a as a client, it has two initial cleans, where the Inspector comes at the end each and every time. It can be brutally hot in the summers, and rarely ever closes for snow days. However some of the people you meet working together become life long friends, the owner I worked for was truly a nice man and would do his best to keep his staff happy. You had room to grow as a cleaner, from beginner, to certified cleaner, team lead, and even trainer. Each with their own pay raise. And after 6 months of employment you receive benefits. It's a Monday-Friday 8-5 job and you get weekends off. Honestly it's a great way to get fit, earn a very decent pay check, and benefits on top.

I can't say enough good things about The Cleaning Authority Airdrie. I have been an employee for almost three years now and I am so sad to be leaving for maternity leave next month. The management are always trying to work with their staff when issues approach even if it isn't business related. I get more of a family feel than a work feel while working for this company. They have amazing bonus programs in place and sometimes wonderful dinners are put on for the staff to show appreciation of their hard work. The job its self is definitely not easy some days but very rewarding and management is very upfront about how hard the job is while in interviews. Pay is great and management is always there to help in anyway they can if needed. I've never worked for a better company!

Not a good place to work. Very competitive and there was lots of gossip and backbiting from staff and especially management. They didn’t want me going to my doctors appointment and talked to the entire staff about my medical issues. Lots of favouritism and bad training. Very few kind people. Was told we would only work in the NW of Calgary, was actually sent to the SW most days. Were sent to help a team struggling but ended up doing the house ourselves without the other team. Got reprimanded for taking too long or working too fast. Management tracked you and would contact you if you took too long to get to a house/ask you why you would take a certain way to a house. Coming back from a medical issue, I was given a very long, hard day and got in trouble when I couldn’t finish. 

I worked for the cleaning authority for one shift and within the first 10 minutes I knew it was my last. I was set up to watch videos for a half hour, following that I was sent out with two women who barely spoke to me or informed me of what we were doing. In each home we were set to clean for the day, I was given hardly any form of instruction and was sent to the bathrooms to clean with a few tools. All staff did nothing but complain and gossip about the company itself or each other and the standards were ridiculous. There was no time for lunch and even points in the day where I was cleaning and the two other women working with me just instructed/watched me clean. The staff is also extremely underpaid, overworked, and treated unfairly. Not to mention the office could use a clean as well.

I was on a training team with two other women, whom I received little to no support and communication from. They barely said two things to me. Scrubbed bathroom floors to the bone, only to return to manager to find that my co-workers said I did a subpar job and "wasn't taking my work very seriously." Apparently the women there do not like when you're "prettier" than them.

Majority of customers' houses were already emaculate; they were already clean. Hiring The Cleaning Authority is simply a way for the people of Burlington to say, "haha working class, look at me, look at my nice things." Two shifts was enough for me to realize there was no point to working there. If you don't like drama, don't work here.

Work hours were very flexible and negotiable, and the management was very friendly and understanding. Thorough and comprehensive training, with a good sense of job security so long as you work hard and within the expected time range. Wage was decent, and hours (at least in my case) were low. Being strong would be a plus as there is some very heavy duty cleaning that is required for the job, in tandem with lighter duty work as well. Overall a great company to work for and great for individuals who prefer working independently with little to no supervision

I have worked at The Cleaning Authority for 7 years. When I first started I was not the best cleaner and got very close to being let go, but I was here every day with a smile on my face willing to work hard and learn. With the help of management now I am the Quality Inspector. They are amazing people so understanding, patient they are very much like family to me. Lately we have only been working half days due to COVID-19 they still top us up every week as if we have been working full days. I could not see myself working any where else. We have a group of the best people working here, they work hard and care about the work we are doing.  

Schedule is never constant there are too many changes during the day. It’s impossible to make plans as you never know what time you’ll be off. You’re too tired after work to do anything other than sit at home. They expect you to stay and fix other team’s mistakes for no extra pay/ rewards. The favouritism at this company is hilarious. There are three people who basically tell the manager what they want to do and that’s what they get to do. The rest of us got the bad jobs. They expect you to know everything after the most basic, unhelpful training. Turnaround is constant. 

The job is hard work, but rewarding. It feels good to see your work once you've finished a job! The pay is good, above minimum wage, and the staff are paid weekly, every Friday. They have good benefits, and a few ways to get a bonus. Everyone works well as a team, and will always help you if you get behind. Great attitudes! Management is fair and approachable. They care a great deal about their employees, and it shows in the workers attitudes. I really enjoyed the freedom of the job and not having supervisors around all the time besides the Inspector who comes around to see how everyone is doing. When I am looking for work again, I will be applying here again.
