I've been with The Conference Board of Canada for four years and have watched my hard skills sky rocket. I have heard this from others as well. People are celebrated for their strengths and there's a lot of good will and team spirit amongst departments. There was a few rough years around 2016-18 when they restructured, and since then things have been better and better. Compensation isn't as competitive, but the work/life balance is incredible. Benefits, matched pension contributions, 4 weeks off as well as the time between Christmas and New Year, work from home. If you want to grow like crazy, there's a lot of work ahead! Above all, positive mental outlook is the biggest soft skill you can bring.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Great culture and team. A lot of opportunity to learn. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Heavy workload and sometimes HR policies are lacking. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
A lot of collaboration and support across teams. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It’s fully remote, so no travel time. You are responsible to manage your time and complete your tasks between meetings. Lots of flexibility in how you do this.

I recently joined the organization and I can honestly say I am very impressed. My onboarding experience was fantastic, very personable and it made me feel welcome. Management in all different areas have been helpful and very easy to work with. I really appreciate all the communication, very transparent. I am happy with my decision to join CBoC! 

An active research organisation, constantly doing quantitative and qualitative research. Lots of opportunities to improve your skills with a fun bunch of colleagues. Regular publications mean you can build a public profile as a researcher. Good range of co-workers of all ages, and fields. Great location, out of the heavy traffic of the downtown core.

Enjoyed the work and the entrepreneurial spirit of the place. Intelligent co-workers and clients made it possible to work on complexity issues. Learned a tremendous amount about the current and future state of the economy in Canada and emerging trends.

In all aspects, you would be smart to steer clear of working for the Conference Board of Canada. I've had many former colleagues who were let go without warning. Their salaries are poor so many of their employees count on an annual bonus of surplus revenue. Unfortunately, all the surplus revenue went to the CEO this year and no one else.

The dust has settled. New CEO in 2018 made the necessary changes to structure the organization that will allow the Conference Board to succeed, moving forward. It was an inclusive process. Is it perfect? No. But it's a significant improvement. Love the new culture!

Employees very supportive and onboarding was expertly executed. Overworked and underappreciated employees noticeably disgruntled. Few incentives to speak of. All about targets and tracking. Felt like a number.

Interesting people and work but the work culture is toxic. New President and senior management have made it a terrible place to work where you are afraid to speak up and voice your opinions. Approximately 25% of the workforce has been let go in the last 12 months.

This place will chew you up and spit you out.
The smart ones don't/won't/ stay -underpaid, overworked, and underappreciated. 
Turnover is high for a reason. You either get out or they kick you out.
Nobody is safe here and everyone feels it.
