The Cove Lakeside Resort

I worked at The Cove Lakeside Resort from April 2021 - December 2021 and I would highly recommend the company as a great place to work - I only left as I relocated to a different city. 
I started working here approx. 6 months after new management took over and found the executive team to be supportive, considerate and actually interested in each employee as an individual and supportive of each persons successes - I never felt like 'just another person passing through'. 
All team members were  also really easy to get along with and to work alongside & they made working at the resort a very pleasant experience. 

Working throughout the Summer where COVID provincial and federal regulations were still somewhat all over the place was an experience - as i'm sure it was for all of the tourism industry - however I felt safe in the work place & all mandatory restrictions were followed and enforced well.

Management is all self-serving and under-qualified. Some received their positions as a result of nepotism and try to hide the fact that they are massively incompetent by bullying the staff and throwing anyone within reach under the bus.

Employees are overworked and unappreciated. Summertime is insanely busy, and hourly employees are expected to work 50+ hours a week while salaried managers are working 40 and giving themselves a pat on the back for it.

The Cove is rotten from the top down. Unless there are big changes to the leadership, do not apply here.

When I first started at the Cove, I thought it was a great place to work because of the location and guests, but once I opened my eyes I saw the demon in disguise. Management hides in their offices to avoid guests at all costs unless - of course - the guest is a friend of theirs. In which case, roll out the red carpet and use scapegoats whenever anything goes wrong. The turnover rate is so high because of people quitting from the stressful work environment due to management. Until the people at the top change, do not apply here.

Honestly not worth your time, don’t even bother. Management here is terrible and the resort is going nowhere, they laid off pretty much all their staff with no warning. People have lives, but they don’t care about that. If that’s not bad enough, you’re constantly being spied on. There’s a camera in the lunch room, which is completely illegal and despicable. Why would you work here for less and be treated like garbage, when you can go somewhere else and be treated much better. Don’t work here unless you’re a lifeless zombie, in that case, you’ll fit right in.

Don't let the rating fool you, this place has the power to be much better. Why don't they? Only ownership can answer that. Same business formula as most other employers, people are commodities. Don't think you'll be working there for very long (happily), maybe with new ownership and guidance from the so called leader. A bottle of YOP has much more culture than this outfit. It is insanity,really, doing the same thing and expecting different results. If there isn't yet, there should be a revolving door at the employee entrance.

Long hours. Little gratitude or respect from senior management. No operating plan. No investment in an aging property, Cash flow problems even during the busy season.Several summers of forest fires is hurting the tourism economy in the area and The Cove in particular.

This is a big place and all the suites have owners and the restaurant is run separate.  It can be confusing but it seems like everything just comes to the hotel, no matter what.  We worked really hard, especially in the summer because they are so busy but they always had meals or snacks or gifts for us to say thank you.

Management has changed since I’ve been there, but my time there was stressful and poorly managed. Promised a raise that never arrived, large apartment sized suites that were expected to be cleaned within 20 minutes with lack of necessary supplies (unrealistic expectations), and supervision that was less than helpful.

I worked at The Cove for summer of 2021 and 2022 as a housekeeper and I cannot say enough great things. Everything is ran well, management worked great for me and did the best they could to make everyone happy. The environment is an amazing one to work in. Everyone is made to feel welcome and is set up to succeed. 

I had to work five days a week from 4pm-1am, i started working during the end of summer and it was fine until school started. They gave me no slack and i only got one 30 minute break to do homework. It is insanely stressful and wasnt worth the money
