The Crossing Resort

The Crossing is located in the middle of nowhere, quite literally 100km away from the nearest town. The benefit to this is that the resort is surrounded by gorgeous mountains and forest, and due to the remoteness the pay and accommodations as staff are pretty reasonable.
Unfortunately there are serious downsides, especially without a car. For starters, everything is incredibly expensive, and a 20% staff discount does little to mask the fact that everything (except alcohol) is sold for 3-5x more than it should be, meaning that unless you can find someone to run errands for you in Banff you're going to be recycling a lot of money. To those thinking you won't, you're wrong. The only two regular social activities that staff partake in are drinking and gossiping, and after the stress that comes with working fast-paced jobs with idiot tourists, you too will almost certainly succumb to a need for alcohol.
To make this worse a large amount of the managers are both overbearing and incompetent, which can make an already stressful job into an inescapable hellhole. The work is draining, the work culture is toxic, the drama is comedically childish, and drinking is both the only social activity and escape from all the negativity.

Last but not least, if you want to leave, its... complicated. You basically have one of four options. One, submit a 2 weeks notice. If you have a good reason and they like you they'll let you go and you'll get to book a very expensive bus ride back to Calgary.
Two, quit and inform them you're leaving and leave asap with a pre-arranged ride.
Three, leave in the dead of night with a prearranged ride and hightail it out of there for your sanity's sake. This is the preferred method of most of the employees, as risking lost profit is not even close to the value of your sanity and will to live.
Four, and I don't recommend this one, inform your boss you're leaving soon or hand in a 2 weeks if you've been employed for less than 90 days and are not in their good graces. If your boss informs the owners of this, they will give you an hour to pack and then kick you off property.

Overall do I recommend? If your contract is 2 months or less and you are able to deal well with stress, it can be ok. If your contract is longer and you are not an alcoholic I do not recommend this job. The pay is not worth your sanity, and the location will not mask the downsides.

Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to work. Unless you're wanting an experience similar to the Stanford Prison Experiment. The management is awful and treat you like trash. You get overworked and underpaid. No overtime pay and they also short you. HR will talk to you like a child and snoop through your room while you're at work. No cell service and the world's slowest WiFi that doesn't work most of the time. There's more cliques than high school. If you quit, have your stuff packed and a ride prepared because they give you 1 hour to be off the resort. Same if you get fired. They don't care if you can't pack in 1 hour. You will be forced to leave behind anything you couldn't pack and they will make you stand on the side of the highway off resort in a no cell service area an hour from anything regardless if you have a ride setup or not. They also won't let you say bye to anyone. In 1 month at least 10 people packed up their stuff and left without notice in the middle of the night or even on their lunch break, sometimes forfeiting pay because their sanity was worth more than money. Bring more clothes than the 3 outfits they recommend, there is space. Bring snacks because it's $10 for a bag of chips. Stock up on alcohol if you're like everyone else there who uses alcohol to cope with the awfulness of the resort because it's $20 for a 6pack of domestic beer. Or just save yourself entirely and don't work here.

There were no surprises after I went to work. Everything was the same as I had been told during the interview.  There is no cell service, that was made very clear during the interview. I was also told it was basically in the middle of nowhere and told the distances to the nearest communities. I was also told the business was in a beautiful location, which it was. I found management to be approachable and understanding. The food was exceptional. The kitchen staff were the best. You pay just over $14 a day for your food and lodging. That was also explained at the interview. After you are hired you are given a copy of all the policies and procedures. If you read these, nothing about the job should come as a surprise to you once you start work.  Overall, I would recommend The Crossing Resort to people looking for work and people looking for accommodations.

I worked as a front desk agent for the crossing for two consecutive summers. I was well trained at the desk and well supported when I made mistakes or needed support. 

Food and board were cheap and they were very giving with their raises, making this an ideal place to stay and save up some money. (If you can stay out of the pub.)

During my time at the crossing, I had some interpersonal problems and problems with the culture of resort work, neither of which are the resort's responsibilities but something to keep in mind when applying to any resort work. 

The hiking was incredible, and if you have a car (or a friend with a car) you are able to explore Banff and Jasper on your days off - a perfect way to be a tourist without it costing an arm and a leg. 

My position in the store was amazing for the two years. The manager is super sweet and understanding and will always have your back. The owners may not be aware of everything that goes down but if its brought to their attention they handle it professionally and in a timely and lawful manner. The HR over the years have sucked. Sacking good workers who didnt play around with the bs and sympathizing with the longterm workers. Coworkers are a hit or miss. Also everyone sleeps with everyone. 

Overall if you dont like drama keep to yourself, you work 6 days, 1 day off, free food, decent rent taken from pay, paid once a month. Suggest buying lots of healthy snacks as the food for the employees kinda sucks. 

I loved the mountains therefore the ppl didnt bother me to much.

While working at the Crossing resort, I learned that although it was an amazing experience, it does take some getting used to. In a place so remote, you have to learn how to stay out of the drama because it really does take a toll on you. First off, there isn't many times where you can get off property because you're working six days a week, so you can become quite bored of having the same daily routine. Also it's almost like because nobody really knows each other, they have nothing to talk about so they make up rumours about one another to keep conversations going. After about a week of working there, I had heard four rumours about myself that were completely not true. All i'm saying, is that if you work here, make sure you hang out with people who also like to stay out of the drama.

The location is amazing. It's in the middle of the Iceields Parkway, which means you're just surrounded with wildlife, and beautiful scenery. On days off, you can either go on hikes/adventures, or you can drive to Banff, Jasper, Lake Louise for shopping, or social life. There's also a pub on-site which lots of the staff would go to after work, and play pool/socialize. 

On the other hand, being that it is such a small isolated property, it can sometimes be hard to deal with. The staff when i worked there, were very into gossip and causing drama (I guess they had nothing better to do), and the management definitely did not know how to handle it. Its hard to live in a small place with so many people, when there are always rumors being spread around.

There are few positive things about this place. Work wise, the management shouldn't be in management. I'm not sure how the woman in charge of HR continues to be employed. She's completely unprofessional. Plus you work 6 days a week so you really don't have time to enjoy the scenery. I could go on but I won't.
