The District Municipality of Muskoka

Onboarding as a manager was 45 minutes, given a computer, cell phone, and a list of my employees. Very poor onboarding, very poor training, everything is escalated into a crisis, very poor communication, too much gossip and far too many meetings. Employment agreement stated 37.5 hours per week ( no OT or Lieu time allowed). Emails and phone calls from 7 AM until 9, 10, 11 pm at night. Told that managers are expected to work a lot of extra hours and the payoff is the reward of being a public servant and serving the residents of Muskoka to make it a better place to live. Very bad experience. 

It was my job to use District of Muskoka work trucks to investigate and to deal with illegal dumping of harmful substances.  I learned how to operate heavy machinery, and how a public works operation functioned. The hardest part was dealing with some of the public, who had resentment for the district municipality, however, that was also the most enjoyable part, dealing with and helping grateful customers.

The frontline staff here are very dedicated, and the leadership teams have heart. As an HR team member focused on supporting our Health Services area, I appreciate that the working relationship and the collaboration between the HR Team and the teams at our Long Term Care Homes is a positive one. 

The organization is great to work for. The culture of the organization is one of family. There is opportunity to grow across different sectors and the team is great. Everyone strives to do the best for our residents and their families. 

An opportunity for me to not only cater district events....ie...school, political, district owned companies, but also an opportunity for me to participate in feeding the homeless and hardships through the impact cafe, who provides a warm meal with salad and dessert free to those in need every friday.

The HR team is welcoming and provided a positive onboarding experience.  Collaborative team meetings, your ideas are important. They work hard to provide a positive experience for the public and their staff. Excellent Employee Assistance Program 

The Pines LTC is a good environment to practice your communication skills and pharmacology knowledge.  Great benefits and pension.  Focus on team work and not gossip, you’ll do just fine. The residents are you main focus, just remember why you chose to care for vulnerable individuals. 

many seemed to take advantage of the "union" work style meaning staff did not work effectively! management kept us in the loop as much as possible. training was hit and miss for being efficient

If u arent related to someone who works here they will let you go. They keep u until benefits kick in than let you go 3 months tops. Dont waste your time this position has been posted alot.If you dont fit in there click watch out. Run from this job
