The Great Canadian Bagel

Title basically says it all honestly. The manager here fired me without any feedback at all, not even a hint that he was displeased with my performance. All my coworkers were surprised too. Very disappointed. 

Besides that, it was a decent place to work. Sensory friendly as it was typically quite quiet in the store and never really got super busy. My coworkers were all absolutely lovely. Some customers were demanding but the majority of them were regulars that were willing to be patient. 

I'd come home smelling like bagels, which was nice compared to coming home smelling like stale coffee :)

Cash register is old old! Not necessarily bad, but was surprising. No delivery here, which I liked. Paper punch cards and a clock on the puncher that ran 10 minutes behind. Weird, but they would do their best to fix the times on your paycheque.

The hardest part of the job was trying to communicate with the manager, honestly, who would stop me mid-task to tell me to do something else, even though I could easily finish said task in the time it took him to stop me and redirect me to what it was he wanted me doing (even though the task I was doing- eg, putting coffee on) still needed to be done. Kind of a bizarre way of running the place. We didn't talk very much though and I got a hang of the job quickly (there's not much to it, to be honest.)

Seems like they hired me, then realized they didn't need an extra hand and decided to just drop me. I understand that, but at least a call or email would've been less rude, or giving me any sort of feedback at all.

This is a horrible place to work. They verbally abuse their staff. Mike the owner is highly inappropriate. 
You never get time off, you are made serve food that is expired and if you wanna be screwed over and not
Paid properly well this is a perfect job for you. I was there 9 months and there wasn’t a single person hired that lasted long enough to make it through probation period. 
You get your paycheck Friday after 6pm, so don’t expect to be paid on time. 
You will never make more then minimum wage. 
Everyone deserves better then what this company has to offer. 
Don’t get involved with management there. Great Canadian Bagel was terrific before these owners took over.

Stressful, fast paced. Always being micro managed. Manager speakers very limited English. When minimum wage goes up they will cut your hours. No benefits. Don’t recommend at all. Management used East Indian resumes for scrap paper. 

Too long a story to get into but trust me on this...do not work for the owners in Saskatoon...very hard on staff and just not very nice environment for any mixer/baker and pay is very,very low. Ask for a raise and they find a reason to get rid of you..

The day consists serving customers the best way that you can. I learned many people skills. The management is good. My coworkers are good workers but sometimes hard to work with but considering I have a lot of patience, I always find a way to get through the day while making the customers happy. The most enjoyable part of the job is interacting with the customers because I'm a people person.

Not a bad starter job at all. Position requires customer service, memorization, cash handling, and basic food prep. If you are uncomfortable with raw egg or meats you should not work here. The management at the time had a bad rap amongst employees and some bad experiences with lack of consideration for employees wellness. 

Workplace always busy, production always on the go from morning to mid afternoons,  Fast pace made it interesting and never boring.  I learned a lot about customer service over the years and still think customer service is one of the most fun and satisfying jobs.  Also enjoyed the administrative part of the job, very diversified.

I don't know. I didn't get stressful during the time

It's very friendly and respectable for employee

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It's a little bit busy but I can handle it.

Working for the first few months goes amazingly! After that, things go downhill VERY FAST. Good for pay and benefits, that’s it, absolutely NO personal satisfaction.

The management was awful. Would yell at employees in front of customers. Treated employees like animals. information would get "lost" i.e. Social Insurance #, direct depot etc, so the manager would miss paying people some weeks. However, each GCB is managed and owned by different people so the are not all held to the same standards.
