The Hamlets at Duncan

I have been a HCA for a long time and have never worked at such a great facility as The Hamlets in Duncan. What makes this such a great place to work for is that it is Resident Focused. If you are in the nursing industry it is because you are a caring, compassionate person and want the best for our Seniors and that is what The Hamlets in Duncan Provides. I love going to work each day and getting to spend time with my residents. ( Usually at facilities you are task oriented to get the job done but at The Hamlets in Duncan you are 100% Resident focused and on what their schedule is so no rushing to get everyone up right away etc ) It is a brand new facility so has great over head lifts and lots of proper equipment so I can do my job in a safe manner.  Management has an open door policy and always supportive. My Coworkers in all the departments are always inclusive and great to work with as a team of professionals. Great Work-Life balance with scheduling for shifts. 

If the employers does not care about staff how can they care about your loved ones in this facility. I've seen 6 general managers, 4 support services managers and approximately 4 director of care in a two year span. Even though this facility has changed owners the outcome is the same. Poor management,poor staffing, poor communication. Great staff has come and gone. Instead of keeping great staff they run them over and run them down till they can take no more. You shouldn't have to have a anxiety attack prior to your shift because your not being supported. 

I'm so happy with my work at the Hamlets at Duncan. Everyone has  been so welcoming and kind,  I feel fortunate to be part of the team. The facility is beautiful and new but not fully opened yet. I've worked in health care for over 30 years, I can honestly say that this is a great place to be. The negative concerns voiced by previous employees seem to be harsh and do not reflect the current work environment at the Hamlets.  As an employee I feel valued and appreciated, it's a pleasure to go to work. 

The upper management  does not listen nor care about the concerns of its frontline workers. Good management knows that the happier the staff the better it is for the residents. I caution you when thinking of working here that the upper management will not care about your well being no matter if you are a good worker or not. They don’t nor won’t t care about you nor support you.   It will affect your well being hence your family’s well being as well. 

This facility is new. They opened prematurely. Care staff were not provided tools that they need to give proper care to seniors. The lack of basic slider sheets  to help residents with turning during care is one of many examples that they don’t value their employee’s safety. People are hurting their back. You will work hard in this facility but you will never get the appreciation. Extended health benefits are very inferior compared to other private facilities. This facility has high employee turnover rate due to subpar leadership.

The work is fast paced, but very efficient and cohesive. Staff feels like 1 big family , filling needs they see that are within thier scope of practice. There is always somebody willing to slow down and help or explain to a new team member how to accurately and efficiently complete any of the many meaningful tasks given in a day. New hires are welcomed and orientated smoothly and warmly. Everyone is treated as an equal and important member of the team.

There isn’t it’s a bad toxic environment. Don’t recommend working there at all

Horrible it’s not a good environment at all stay away

Stress and work over load is bad

With any new company, and as to be expected, you're going to experience some growing pains. Being a current employee, I can safely say that things are steadly coming together, and moving in the right direction. My manager has always been kind, fair, supportive and easy to talk to. From housekeeping, up to and including, management., we have a wonderful and caring team. So far, so good. 

This facility and it's management is an absolute opposite of the company's values. DO NOT apply for a job here. Wages are the lowest in Cowichan Valley. You will be overworked and unappreciated. There is no job security with this company. They are non-unionized so they can fire employees at anytime. They have fired a lot of employees for no good reason. Our seniors deserve much better.

They are accommodating of school scheduling, ensure you are getting enough hours. admin is supportive and understanding. like any new site there are growing pains but the representatives from had office have been incredibly supportive.
