The Manor Village

When i started working here as a server, i used to have a lot of fun. The best parts about the job were the fellow servers and of course the residents, who become like family to you. I used to actually look forward to my work days, and would find many reasons to laugh and smile during my shift, even though it would be very stressful at times. 
The job is very high paced and stressful, you need to be able to work fast in a stressful environment, and you're basically on your own once you're trained. Senior staff who have been working for years used to get better shifts and respect from management, new management doesn't care about that. Although you don't make tips, you used to get free meals, which now they have taken away from serving staff. You start with minimum wage and hope your reviews dont come too late to get a raise, which they always fall about 4-5 months after you were supposed to get them.
 It used to be a great workplace environment, with management looking out for you and the residents and the staff becoming like a second family to you. The manor standard always used to put the residents needs first above all else, "the community with heart". Now its changed, its no longer about the care and needs of the residents as the new management doesn't care about the staff and/or the concerns of the residents. New management's first priority is now money, and the residents quality of life comes second, and its hard to watch it happen, hear their concerns and know you cant do anything about it. 
This place used to be an amazing way to get serving experience, all while making new friends for life and always having a place among the family that is the manor village. I regret to say that i dont recommend this place for future staff.

At one time I loved my job and the company. But over the last year they have fired all of the great managers and made everyone afraid for their jobs and pitted against eachother.  They have told us the company is for sale and that it is all about the bottom line and not the Residents. A company that was once managed really well is now  completely disorganized, and anyone left with any knowledge is either being forced out or made to walk on egg shells. The ONLY reason that anyone is staying is because of the residents - and that is even the good managers. 

Managers used to fight for the staff and what they though was right. No one fights for what is right anymore.

For profit retirement homes are a overpriced nightmare essentially a two star hotel with a diner attached. Cultures a nightmare nothings given time needed to do anything right at the quality of care is awful especially for what the residents pay. Management is spineless and the head chef at the time would leave every dinner shift to check her emails. Poor pay wildly underprepared staff and a general negative and unprofessional work environment 

It’s not the job that is difficult, but having to deal with an administration who has no basic management, leadership or healthcare skills.  Favouritism a problem.  Negative workplace created at the top. Poor training of staff (and managers) create this culture.  Some managers try to make up for the shortfall but it is obviously a daily struggle.
HR Resources and head office support practically non existent.
Staffing is like a revolving door and it’s usually the good ones that leave.

When I started here I had high hopes but it was a letdown. 
Concerns and complaints about safety and security that are raised are ignored.  
Administration and nursing management just don’t care about the staff/residents unless it fits with what they want.  
No-one here to look out for your nursing license and not worth the sleepless nights!

Working at Staywell has been a wonderful experience. There is always a new challenge everyday and I can't wait to find out what that will be. Management and staff alike work together with patience, understanding and kind hearts to make sure that our elderly residents receive the care that they deserve.  I really feel that I am making a difference in their lives.  We have a great management team, as well as, a wonderful benefit plan and employee referral program.

Out of all of the places I have worked, this place has been the most toxic and competitive environment. There is no sense of collaboration, and don’t expect any help from anyone. The staff are bullies and not approachable. The management are the most approachable but clueless about what really goes on. The residents were the reason I stayed for as long as I did.

You work by yourself in a small ish dining room. And most of the time have no help. It is exhausting. So underpaid for how much work you have to do in an 8 hour shift. Stocking, serving, cleaning all by yourself. And you will not get a single good work from your supervisors. 

Worked as a dining room server. Always short staffed and would have to pick up the slack for every shift. Not enough servers also means we have to come to work even if we're sick, which, in my opinion, is terrible for the elderly that live there and can get sick easily. The kitchen management is super rude to the staff.

This is a really discouraging  place to work.  This is primarily due to the negative and challenging culture, and inconsistent/confusing directions.  The administration is very critical and negative.  Staffing is a regular problem.  High staff turnover.
