The Master Group

I did forklift order picking and staging work mostly. Increased the # of counterbalance forklifts EVENTUALLY, but some had fast draining batteries, or still not enough for all the workers, but u could switch to manual order-picking to help. Almost always work to do, so no FAKE sweeping to look productive. Training was a lil weak, but almost no one got mad, and instead informed me of mistakes. It was a relaxing place with no helicopter supervision, nor termination without supervisors correcting you first (as long as you were competent). Huge inventory is in the outdoor yard, so dress correctly for being out there 11+ minutes if your order wave includes big stuff. Occasional OT available, but not forced. I recommend here to anyone competent and responsible; they want permanent staff usually. It's a tiny bit social at most.
There'd be a few coworkers who'd be condescending, short tempered, yet avoidable. Follow all forklift regulations, realize you're lifting oddly shaped skids w/expensive products, read the long product numbers correctly, and you're fine.
The warehouse was FILTHY, down to the trucker bathroom. Cobwebs at every level on walls and some shelving spaces and black dust almost everywhere, from IDK what source since there wasn't any industrial pollution or anything. No cleaner or staff would take a broom to that, so lots of crawlies emerge from stuff you lift by MHE. They moved to a brand new clean place in Vaughan, but I doubt they'll do upkeep.

A typical day at work is either feast or famine. 
You are either drowning in work to do or you are sitting around half the day doing nothing.

I learned a lot about project management, but most of what I learned came from the head office. Not much of which they practise in the other locations. 

The management needs to communicate more with one another and how they practise. 

The workplace culture is okay. Some days is not very enjoyable as you always feel like you have eyes watching you and if you are not productive enough, they find a way to nicely punish you instead of helping. 

The hardest part of the job is understanding something you know nothing about.
They should look at people with more experience in the given field going forward or educate upon starting them with the company.

The most enjoyable part of the job was liasing with the customers and getting to know them.

A typical day is unloading a truck, make sure all product shows up and then put all the product away. As well as some cleaning and organizing. Management is pretty good; I've met only a handful of the managers but almost everyone I've met has been nice. I believe I learned more about the HVAC industry, as well as working here has shown me what I'd like to do with my future which I believe is the most important thing. I'd says the hardest part of the job is learning all products and trying to understand what customers want when they come in. Luckily this company has lots of people you can ask questions to and eventually you'll find your answer. The most enjoyable part of the job for me would have to be the guys I work with.

Management team is over 90% based in Eastern Canada and don't understand the market in Western Canada. They do not honor their word to employees and would sooner have inexperienced staff that they don't have to pay much for than experienced staff who could actually help them. They are really out of touch with the market in Western Canada and do not value what the customers needs are and what employees recommend. They have also demonstrated massive confusion in their procedures when rolling out new branches in the West and have alienated and lost a lot of existing cutomers. Master Group is an extremely frustrating place to do business for employees and customers alike.

Management is terrible. There's no sense of accountability. No performance objectives are set between employees which gives you no leverage in your performance review. HR says oops we didn't implement it properly but you end up holding the short end of the stick.

Employees are overworked.

CONS:
- Daily 8:30 am meetings (Camera On required)
- No criteria to determine employees performance or work
- Favoritism: some employees benefit more than others on the work from home policy.
- will not pay you a market rate salary let alone a competitive one
- overworked employees
- responsibilities and work will go above your job description and they will push for more work without compensating one for it

What is the best part of working at the company?
There was no best part if working there. Maybe the money. No training not enough staff. Too small a location for the amount of material to be handled.


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not enough staff and location was too small. Managers not willing to help with distribution warehouse problems.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Not good . No ne works together. Sales staff is inconsiderate and expect you to work fir them with no communication  from them.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful and frustrating and at the end of the day you are always thinking of quitting.

Nice new Warehouse fairly clean...

Badly-designed, a lot of wasted space.
Bad internal conflicts between the French and the English.
Safety definitely not one of their top priorities.
Hiring people that compliment the people there and keep a good team morale is non-existent


The day to day duties at Master Group involved a good amount of customer interaction within a very casual work setting. Management within the company was very fair and involved in special events and inventory for each individual branch. As previously mentioned it was a very casual environment so the people you work with become more like a small family. The most difficult thing was trying to manage the busy season in the summer. There is a huge demand by customers from April to September and sometimes trying to keep up with the demand was challenging. Overall a great experience and a great company to work for.

For the most part the company is pretty decent to work for. The management team is pretty disconnected from what goes on in the company and can be fairly toxic. They always seem to be in meetings for some reason but very little comes of it outside of justification for their positions. 

Co-workers are all pretty awesome to work with and make the job pretty easy going. I would say the experience has been fairly mediocre but very stable overall. Keep your expectations very low and you will always be happy coming to work.

Working for Masters is very rewarding, we help customers to be comfortable. The pay is industry standard , relaxed work environment and tons of opportunity to grow.  RRSP match profit sharing and health program makes coming here even better. Upper management is very supportive and easy to deal with. We are coast to coast Canada, and you can work or transfer to any province you like when you work here. W e are even in the states . Overall very happy to come to work and working with great people .
