I worked for a year and a half in Etobicoke shop as a heavy duty Apprentice.

It took them a year to sign me up as an apprentice thankfully they backdated it to when I started.  HR is beyond useless.

You fix snow plows in the summer and Paving equipment in the winter. It's mostly old stuff and management doesn't want to spend money so there are a lot of Band-Aid fixes.

The shops are not well equipped ie scan tools wiring diagrams specialty equipment. There is no training you largely figure it out yourself.

Parts will fight you for what you ask for, it doesn't make a lick of sense.

The pay is weak compared to other jobs in the industry.

I wish I had gone to Cat or Cummins and gotten real training and experience.

If you're looking for an easy way to coast this job might be for you. If you're trying to build skills, knowledge and reputation, look elsewhere.

They have an employee committee and tell you it's for your benefit but actually it's another way they control you.

If management says something, have them put it in writing otherwise you know they're lying to you.

They're not doing anything to distinguish themselves.

Poor working conditions, start times messaged workday-afternoon/evening prior, or unpaid will-call. Work till you’re told, and hear about negatives, never positives. Management lacks consideration and/or makes unethical decisions regarding logistics, instructions to dispatch, standby pay, commute compensation, and overall treatment of frontline employees. Don’t remember the last time I felt like a human and not an expendable number. Maybe one time by my dispatcher, who was then instructed by management to make a different decision.

Results working for this company varies heavily… This is my personal experience.

If you like working long days, and the occasional weekend throughout the summer time then this is the job for you. Be wear of the long hot days working outside all summer. Management can sometimes give you false hopes, by saying they promote within. Also, the hardest part the job I had at the Miller Group was, the long days and the short sleeps throughout the summer months. The salary and benefits were some of the best in the Moncton area, only downside is you have to work long hours to get the bigger pay checks. The most enjoyable part of my job was getting to see the project you were working on completed and done correctly.  


Full-Time commitment, part-time pay. You are required to be available 24/7 on-call to plow snow, however in reality you will only work a few days per month, or less. Standby pay is less than minimum wage and hourly rate for work has been frozen for years. Training is a joke, they tell you they’ll pay you for your time but not until your first paycheck comes over a month after you’re “hired.” Employees smoke in company vehicles. Dispatchers play favourites. Management is out of touch with reality. The public HATES you on the road.

I was very disappointed with my experience at Miller.

Working for the Miller group has been a blast. They are a structured company with tons of opportunities for advancement, learning and promotions.  Depending on what sector you work in they all provide unique challenges. As some of the work is seasonal some may face challenges in the summer working long hours, but that will change when you complete projects and realize you were a part of something bigger. 

Working for this company at certain locations, is a complete waste of your time. Management are not educated enough to hold their position. If you're not family, advancements are not here. Too many favours and not enough accountability. Foreman all the way up to Operations manager are not available when seeking guidance

This is great for those who don't need a full-time job.
Very few positions will develop into permanent jobs.
As a snow plow operator, expect to be hated by almost everyone and appreciated by few.

Inspected heavy equipment, and perform pre-trip paperwork. Get map of specfic areas to complete job tasks. Communicate with foreman and boss.  After completing job, bring equipment back to yard smooth and safely.  Complete all necessary paperwork, and punch out, when finish.

Many different jobs and trucks to drive good people and bosses summer and winter work direct deposit work all over Ontario summer and winter work in different areas you could move up in company with different wages men and women employed there sites and building are clean

Under paid for work provided, very little appreciation for danger involved in job. Management has hostile approach to staff always has a negative attitude, unresponsive to ideas from staff.
