The Parkside Hotel & Spa

Unfortunately, my experience working at this spa was very disappointing. I was hired as a Spa Administrator. While the environment appeared professional on the surface, ongoing internal issues made it difficult to succeed in the role.

Although the therapist team members were absolutely wonderful, I would not recommend working in the spa if you value clear leadership, defined roles, consistent professionalism, and reliable compensation.

The manager struggles with direct communication and often avoids necessary conversations required for effective operations.

Front-desk support was frequently ineffective, resulting in administrative responsibilities being overshadowed by daily reception coverage. As a result, the Spa Administrator is expected to prioritize receptionist duties to keep operations running, leaving limited time to complete actual administrative tasks.

Despite regularly covering reception duties, Spa Administrators do not receive product commission, while reception staff do, creating an imbalance between responsibilities and compensation.

Payroll inaccuracies also occurred regularly, requiring employees to closely review paycheques to ensure accurate compensation.

Overall, I would not recommend working in the spa in any position if you value fair compensation, clear leadership, competent colleagues, defined roles, and a professionally maintained workplace.

In a typical shift, one may be expected to sort and fold towels, fitted sheets, flat sheets, and any other laundry typically found in 4-star hotel rooms. One will also be expected to load and unload washers and dryers, sort through dirty laundry for stains, remove stains, and collect dirty laundry from the two hotel towers, gym, and spa.

The only thing I can really say I learned is how much work goes into making hotels look nice, and what I should expect from hotels I visit.

Management was fantastic, able to work my hours around prior commitments.

Workplace culture was very kind. The people working at this hotel love what they do, and the hiring team is looking for that. If you aren't totally into housekeeping and laundry, this isn't the job for you, which is why I left.

The hardest part of the job would be some of the folding, mostly because it can be heavy and awkward, as well as waiting for machines to finish towards the end of the night.

The most enjoyable part of the job is the people. Everyone is really kind and loves what they do.

 I have worked at The Parkside for over 3 years and have had the pleasure and opportunity to advance within in the company through multiple roles and grow my career in hospitality with full support from the management team. I have a great work life balance,  and have found the team supportive of my extra curriculars with genuine investment in my personal growth inside and outside of work. By far the most enjoyable part of the job is the team, everyone has a fantastic sense of humor and are great problem solvers. It is an environment that encourages creativity and autonomy. An added bonus is to work for a company that cares about their environmental impact, and is carbon neutral.

I enjoy working at the Parkside Hotel. I started off as a Guest Services Agent and moved up to the Reservations department. I love the people, the work environment, and the beautiful lobby and atrium. I love that I can be myself at work and have fun with the job.

I would recommend working at the Parkside because of how friendly and welcoming everyone is. The management team does a great job with keeping the hotel busy all year round. There are fun perks for employees. There are giveaways and prize draws throughout the year. Overall, this is an excellent place to work!

An absolutely exceptional place to work. The staff and management have been very welcoming from the beginning and patient all the way through the extensive but polished training. The salary and benefits far outweigh any job I have had in the past and every level of management handles their employees with grace and efficiency. The supervisors who make schedules are understanding and flexible which makes this the ideal workplace for students and those looking to gain hospitality experience. The employees are easy to get along with and work effortlessly together.  All and all a wonderful workplace with great people.

Woefully understaffed. That just means you're going to be doing more and won't get rewarded for it. Nor will they do anything about the lack of staff either. You'll be doing several roles and will not get paid more, nor will anyone even appreciate the work you are doing for the hotel.

Pay is incredibly low and there are no travel/industry perks with the position to offset the low pay.

The only redeemable part of the job was the staff. We had to support each other because clearly the management didn't care.

Please, if you want something rewarding, do not apply here. I am saving you the hassle from just having to quit several weeks into it.


While working in a high paced environment with multiple personalities and guests, it can be stressful and fun all at the same time. They value fun, but of course within the confines of professionalism. 
Growth can be a struggle in smaller properties, as jobs can be held by one person for a while. Will make positions available if they can and encourage education and growth. 


The pay is not worth it.  Some shockingly low wages, even for the industry, with only the tiniest 50 cent annual increases. A fast-paced environment is enjoyable but poor staffing makes it unmanageable. Management does not seem interested in the growth of their employees and seems very distanced from the employees they oversee.  They appear relaxed and comfortable while the rest of their staff run around in a stressed panic.  Other team members were very kind and supportive always
Take my advice and apply to work for any other hotel in Victoria, you will be better off

If you have strong work ethic and enjoy the job you will go the distance. Management strives to help employees reach their goals, whether it’s to move into higher supervisory roles or different departments, cross training and growth is always encouraged for those who are interested. As an employee who’s worked here for a few years now, I’ve grown into a department I like and have also witnessed many others do the same. It’s great to see employees excited to come to work and who create a great work environment, many long lasting friendships have been made. 

The Parkside Hotel & Spa is the best employer that I have worked for while building my career in Hospitality Management. I value working for a local company that is passionate about integrating sustainability into all operations. In addition to a beautiful working atmosphere, the team of people who work here are fun, energetic and supportive.
