The Village of Erin Meadows

The atmosphere at the Village of Erin Meadows is lively and happy. The residents are fun to be with, and staff members are very helpful. The physical environment is clean, and feels like a five star hotel!

Each day begins with pastoral visits, some programmes such as hymn sings, church services. I spend time to plan future programmes, do record keeping, and make phone calls and keep in touch with spiritual care volunteer groups.

Management is very friendly and supportive. 

The hardest part of my job is record keeping. But I do that in small increments so I never have a back log. 

The most enjoyable part of my job is relating to people and knowing I inspired, helped or gave them a new and powerful perspective. I love to share ideas through my speeches and sermons. 

I've learned, after 13 years of chaplaincy, that it is OK for people to be different in their views, assumptions, beliefs, outlook on life. That is the way it should be; any other way would be unnatural. In short, I've learned to embrace differences without feeling threatened.

Very poor management! Only work here if you're absolutely desperate as the pay is really bad and below average. I worked as a PCA and the work is a lot, always short-staffed, they get agency PCAs that are not always trained and a lot of the time do not want to work (absolutely not selective with their employees) and you have to train them for certain residents that they do not know. Management is very unorganized and the different departments do not communicate with each other. I also did the screening and swabbing at the company for a while and turns out they were paying us less than what they were supposed to, and the management is not taking it urgently or seriously enough to fix it quickly and give their employees their rights. Also, if you are hired for a position be ready to be asked to do other things not in your job description in the guise of being short. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The culture of caring is imminent as soon as you enter the Village. The staff whose been at the Village of Erin Meadows chose to stay and serve the residents and team because these are their extended families.  They are happy doing it everyday.  I know a Food Service Aide who reports to work at 5:30 AM even though her clock in paid hours starts at 7:00AM.  She has been doing it since she join the facility.  During her absence,  every one will notice the difference.  Its more on advocacy than a job for most of the team members.  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Dealing with realities of life and how we interact with the situations in real time and real people.  Its healthcare, its what you signed up for.

Overall staff environment is amazing. The management needs to get the boot. They are ways to get hours fast cause they are always short staff. The one thing we all look forward to is the empty christmas card saying merry christmas...lmao yea no you guy need to keep ur empty cheap card. They brag how they can feed generations and mean while they pay the psw low rates.

My typical day at work gives a great sense of purpose when I see the smiles on the residents’ faces that I care for. The team are kind and helpful and management is supportive.

Loved caring for the elderly. the hardest part of the job is in the morning getting the resident ready for breakfast. The co workers were usually supportive and helpful.

A place that enhances your understanding of dementia journey. A place to grow in self awareness and career wise. It is a very fulfilling job. Manager really care about the residents and employees.

The residents definitely make it worth while but the staff are horrible. They all speak in their native tongue 24/7 and it’s unprofessional and disrespectful.  This where people live and not everyone is okay with that. 

It is a good workplace, a lot of opportunities to succeed are provided, which ensures that the workers are provided with a good workplace environment filled with positive energy

I learned that you can volunteer hundreds of extra hours on top of your regular paid time and receive nothing in return.
