Thomas Cook Travel Company, located in Vancouver BC, is a very personable place with various work get-together events, bake sales and overall activities to boost the employee moral happening many times a month.
The company uphold a expectation of professionalism but keeps you feeling like a human being rather then just another employee. Everyone knows each other and the management regards you with respect.
A typical day is taking call from travel agents, selling them tickets, fixing issues with existing tickets, changes/refunds to tickets along with viewing new airline cost contracts. I have learned the importance of being detailed and organized on the job.
The most difficult part of the job is when new contacts come up from airlines and you need to adjust your previous knowledge to the new information being given to you since changes are usually a large difference to what it previously was. The most enjoyable is the co-workers along with the thank yous from agents when you manage to fix a issue for them.

Pretty good company to work for. Call Centre is busy during sales season then call volume drops during summer and company lays off employees. Training is long, which seems to be a little over the top. Team Leads are very nice. Call Centre Manager excellent people person and very understanding. After only a few months working I was laid off. Call back was after a few months but job security is a little sketchy. If you are looking for full time and company advancement I would not suggest working there. No real travel benefits but if you can hang in there travel benefits are good after a few years. Salary is average for work type.

Thomas The Cook was the first place I had ever worked at. I had always wanted to be a waitress. I enjoy a fast pace environment. When I brought in my resume, I was hired that day and being trained the next day. My first table was seven or eight people and it wasn't the best. I had no idea what was on the menu nor how it was made. 

After a couple of weeks, I caught on to the regular duties and responsibilities. I would take orders from customers, prepare sides, answer phone orders, work the till, sweep/mop floors, wipe tables, clean bathrooms. 

The staff was generally pretty friendly. Some often would take an excessive number of smoke breaks, leaving myself and other workers to wait on their tables.

I worked in the HR depart for four months and at the end wished I could have stayed longer.  However, my short time was over and I had to move on to a full time role.  The leadership was strong, consistent and they lived up to all that was promised.They gave me opportunities to actually function in an active role as a recruiter, following the process from beginning to end. Compared to most of my classmates who had little or nothing to do over their coop period.

Work scheduling is hard if you are a single parent.  If you are sick or on holidays your clients get stolen and you lose commission, so  you end up taking you client files with you t o keep you clients and risk being reprimanded for it.  Unattainable commission goals for junior staff, which are not trained properly.  Wage is not compatible with cost of living.  Co-workers are mean and snotty.  Look down on the junior reps.  They don't protect their employees from clients who verbally and physically  assault them.  Instead of an annual bonus they gave us a book on the history of Thomas Cook.

This company has really great supervisors and management for the most part, the co-workers are fantastic to work with, hours vary so no steady work hours you must be flexible. Salary is not that great and there isn't any raises, you can do pretty good on commission if you really push yourself to your limits, Rules are extremely important and most be followed.

Hard work but learnt so much and met lifelong friends. Company no longer exists. But it produced a team of people with a skill set. I would recommend any airline would be great to join as the knowledge you gain in working in an operational and fast paced environment is unbeatable.

Teamwork is a constant at this workplace with very clear lines of communication. A good group of people whom like each other and make the stress of everyday situations manageable.

A typical day at work starts with checking emails and attend meeting if scheduled and discuss project progress with team lead and project manager. I got chance to work on different third party API and work in very good environment. Management is really good and supportive.
