Management was almost opposites, from one Supervisor to another, Some made coming to work the most Fun upbeat days ever, and others were always putting all workers down. I suppose is like that somewhat every where, but here noticed it most. 
  Old equipment, am sure one Dozer was 50 years old, very good shape, but blade went quickly on a right tilt, and would take minutes for it tilt back, we learn how to work with it this way, by not tilting at all, and or tilt back as your backing up. After my two weeks period I had one sore arm, The pain in arm was lasting me for the next month.
  Shift change, 35 below, no place to go, as soon you arrive on job, sometimes 20 to 30 minutes Hard to dress for the weather, as after or before work, you climb in equipment, and start sweating and no matter how much you have on, the cold will get to you. 
  I understand, especially with Oil prices being Low, there must be cuts, and also at same time the companies got to Build, and Make money, otherwise what is point of being in business. 
 We had some crews, we were all going out to work, thinking Life can not get Better. Then another super takes over, and just makes whole crew Miserable   
 Loved 90 % co workers which has a lot to do with Loving the job also. Still in contact with some now

My fellow coworkers were great for the most part, it's management that's the issue. Management was never there when needed and when they were they always seemed like they had a few too many pops. They put so much pressure on you and were constantly putting us techs in situations where we have to work unsafe. Half the time they didn't even show up for their shifts but on any given day can be found at EVP. They put their work on everyone else and the expectations are extremely unrealistic for example a job that done safely should be 4 hours and they expect it done in 2 and if we didn't get it done in their timeliness they would take it out on us. I won't mention names but F and C are the absolute worst of them all but what pushed me to the point of leaving is because I tried to put in complaints to upper management but since they're all friends I got treated like garbage and nothing changed. I was there for a few years and it used to be a good company until the present management.

Overall the company treated me well. Alot of the management were fairly inexperienced which made things very difficult at times and caused alot of pointed fingers. Besides that the company is great. Supplying jobs to many people and often if the workers show interest in moving up and working on better equipment or want to advance to a new position, for example labourer to surveyor, or labourer to heavy equipment operator. The foremen provide the training needed for these workers to advance their skills and careers. Survey crew was exceptional with all of the flack that they received and continually worked hard daily and pushed themselves to get everything done.A surveyor at thompson brothers if educated and knowledgeable often share the job of foreman alongside the foreman, but also tackles all of the duties that he is required and needs to complete.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Laid back environment. Fellow employees. Reasonable pay for expected production.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Dealing with company politics. Certain management individuals who would hold you to a higher standard then themselves.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
In my position it was laid back. But certain individuals who were friends with higher ups all the way to the owner seemed to not be held accountable for their actions.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Safety meeting, go to shop. Clean up messes left by others. Plug away.

- Lots of learning and training on equipment such as excavator, grader, rock truck
-Learned how to be confident and independent on the machines I was operating.
-My management team was great, they were very supportive and positive. 
- I enjoyed the team of employees I worked with, they were all very close knit and had been working together for a while.
- The hardest part of my job was not letting my guard down. There are always going to be days where you are going to lose confidence, but you still keep moving forward.
- The most enjoyable part of my job was being able to overcome challenging experiences.

Not a very well managed company. They don't pay competitively, overtime starts after 10 hours. The 14/7 shifts start on Wednesday, so you don't get 44 hours until Sunday. You pay to get there and back ( Suncor Oil Sands) . You ride a bus 45min and back to the mine on the roughest road in existence. You pay $35/day for a room in a mold infested trailer with paper thin walls, (you can hear every bodily function of your neighbors). The Camp Food is mediocre, with the odd great meal. They promise a $2/hr safety bonus which they find ways not to pay. They will either lay you off without notice, or write you up for frivolous infractions.

Thompson is a great company to work for and they have really distinguished themselves in the past few years. Management is always helpful and the Leadership group is very hands on. Open door policy with the focus on transparency, inclusive culture and a willingness to help.

Being in this industry its hard to read some reviews as unfortunately people in this industry can sometimes be a bit transient. However, for the most part, Thompson's people and operators are fantastic and above industry standard. Their equipment is well maintained and have great site management. 

There was definitely work and the flights were great.  3/4 Supers and up were right out to lunch on man management skills, problem solving and overall "in the know".  It was worse than a high school lunch room full of chatty school girls at the management level, I had the privilege of being around management, and if you weren't in the "clique" you could basically kiss your job good bye for farting near them.  I had to quit over a family issue, and I do miss the atmosphere.  There were some really good workers and people there. overall I would apply again (if they hire me is a different story) and would be happy with the decision to work there.

Lies and disinformation Plague the company. There is companies inside companies. Not what you’d expect.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Poor abusive condescending environment. Like the new liberal government. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Over worked underpaid. You will never be considered for the work you’ve done. Will be politely dismissed. There motto is give less than you take or take more than you give back to your employees.

Very unorganized place for new hires, low pay, and no one to meet and greet and show you around when you first arive at there filthy dirty camp, that you are charged 30 dollars a day to stay in. You have to figure everything out on your own with very little guidance. Most of the employees were great guys, and some were just down right disrespectful to others trying to sleep after a long day at work, slamming doors, yelling in there rooms or in the hallways at 2 or 3am when they are drunk. If this sounds like the kind of place you like to spend 21 days a month, than this is definitely for you lol
