The major problem in this company after so many years of seeing hundreds of  people come and go is that many floor supervisors have no real formal education, and fuel unhealthy staff relations. 
The project supervisors, many who stepped up from line staff years back use well rehearsed lines and quote policies with intimidation. Policies that they themselves do not follow.

You will learn very quickly that senior staff and supervisors do no wrong. A serious divide always exists between full and part time workers, and just as the company replied to other reviews, they do tell you in your interview; but it's also pleasantly cushioned as you are told that there are no guarantee of hours. 

This is what creates the first wave of disappointment, and the start of rift between full and part time workers. Many of the shifts are designed for the comfort of the full time worker. I know, I was full time, and part time for many years. Expect the shifts you do pick up will be heavy workloads and mostly short. You will not be able to rely on hours in the beginning, however this depends on how short staffed the project you work for is. 

With a terrible and unhealthy workforce, expect it to be often enough which adds to employee frustrations. 
 
If you see an AbleLiving Part of Thrive group job posting up? You now know that there is a staffing situation at one of their project locations you are being hired for. They do not encourage long time employment as they have a steady unionized full time staff, and burn out part time workers, pushing really good talent away.

This will hurt as a part time worker in this industry right now in the time of COVID-19, as you cannot work at multiple care homes, so you would waste your time by working here with no guaranteed hours. Once you have been used for what you where hired for and had enough, people leave, more hours on the floor as you become dreadfully understaffed again. Always a battle for hours to work.

The workplace is tense at times, with an underlining fear culture woven into the fabric of this organizations being. It will never change sadly, as their idealism exists in fantasy as I brought up earlier of the lack of education of the common supervisor, and the companies lack of desire to really change.

Positive change at Ableliving Part of Thrive will not happen, as that would mean upper management would have to admit they're wrong. 

 I left the organization in 2017,  and had worked as a PSW for over 20 years. As an excellent PSW having to put up with the conditions at Ableliving part of Thrive Group, I gave up with the care industry, and will never return to that industry again. 

It saddens me to hear from the few friends I've left behind the unhealthy and dysfunctional environment  that still persists at Thrive Group. 
   
The clients are wonderful, many are thankful you are there. It will not be long before you realize the unhealthy dynamic that exists between client and management, client and staff, and management and staff. This should not be happening in any proper work force where professionalism is key.

Everyday work life is harder from the unhealthy and unprofessional staff to staff situations that can present itself from this organization.

Cliques are a real and is what creates such an unhealthy workplace.  Terrible fear culture  from the top down. You will feel it, and want to be a part of that clique because it's very powerful and out of any work environment, you just want to fit in. 
In time you realize that the full time workers are close to the management team, and sometimes backstabbing is the option to get ahead.  Which really in the end, there is no moving up. At all.
 
Anything positive about this place? 
Ableliving Part of Thrive Group does pay well in time with seniority. Benefits are ok. They say benefits and pension when you start. As a part time worker you will have to pay into that. Offered a pension after so many hours worked.  

From the bottom of my heart,  I wholeheartedly say to you that you deserve better for yourself than to work here.  
You will make no difference in this company, no matter how hard they decorate their concern.

If you are an excellent worker that excels in a team environment this is not the place for you. 
Give your time, your talents, and expertise to a company that cares and celebrates the uniqueness that you will bring to an organization. The company should never define or destroy the person you are.

This is a very difficult place to work.
Everything is about money. Always hear we are putting money here, we will invest something there. Less and less invested in maintaining employees. All this poor maintenance for a monopoly in care and independent living. Must be accreditation time again. This is a time where the organization have us all rehearse our answers if we should get asked by a scrutinizing order.
Mad rush in the morning, short staffed again on the floor. 
Management needs more money. For what? Nothing in my pocket but a headache.
Small raises for us, sometimes nothing which is really disappointing when you work so hard soaked in sweat from no air conditioning, and constant go go go. 
Sometimes my morning shift has three showers in a row, while certain staff are sitting making toast and tea, dry and comfy in the office. 
Management is ok with this as certain staff have a longer day than me. Wait, what? What happened to the idea of helping each other? Only certain people help. Exclusive groups and teams exist picking on new people.
Clients time is really managed. Where is funding going?  Follow the money here, because it is a word you will hear a lot. This place is not even a bank.
 Always hectic shifts, with miserable individuals gossiping and being so angry. Certain coworkers have a lot of pull in the office. Too much is said between supervisor and some staff.
Sometimes the tension is so high working with certain people that I cannot wait to get to a booking to a smiling client and give extra time.   
Sometimes at staff meetings the big wigs with the area manager and coordinator stop in with announcements. I sometimes wonder why they talk down to us like children.  You will see a lot of tears from tired out staff that get picked on by other staff or management. Management have big crocodile smiles, beware.
Able Living is supposed to be about caring. I want to know why there is a lack of empathy or compassion from our supervisors? Easy to make management angry here, just say no.
Why when for a long time we have been made to feel awful for even calling in sick. To be questioned if we are really sick is hurtful. Not only hurtful but dangerous these days. Management is lazy this way. Take it too personal when people call in. People in charge have emotional challenges and make you feel terrible.  This is not a work place, this is a rotten environment. I don't recommend it, but if you need a bad frustrating job you can have mine when I find something new. I'm done.

I was struck shortly after I started at the level of micromanaging from my direct supervisor. It also seemed to me that staff were constantly set up to fail by mid and upper management, and pretty soon  I realized that I, too, was being set up to fail at every turn by the manager and director. 
There are two groups of people at Thrive in my opinion: those who are benefiting from the system and those who aren’t. I didn’t expect that the HR team and “senior leadership” would be able to work from home all the time. More often than not. I saw directors, CEOs, and HR all at home during virtual meetings (some even in their pyjamas/sweats). When it was time for annual Violence Risk Assessments, the HR person refused to come to the site to observe, something I had never experienced in 25 years of working in high behaviour environments. There seemed to always be a reason why these people couldn’t come into the actual work site and had to stay home. In short, these are the people benefiting from the inequality at Thrive.
I was eager when I started to exceed expectations; however, it became clear to me early on that enough would never be enough. I was gossiped about, maligned, and bullied after I set down boundaries with my manager about salaried hours. I do not work for free anymore: if I am paid for 40 hours, I do not work 80 to benefit the same people who do not leave their homes and admit they are able to nap on their lunch breaks. I never got a lunch break in my time working there and my director said that if I wanted to take a 20 minute walking during my workday, I had to put it in my Outlook calendar. This from a woman who was always home in her sweats.

I miss some of the frontline staff, they were the best of what Thrive had to offer. Despite all of the performative Great Places To Work events, they are under-appreciated by HR and senior leadership. 

It was an embarrassment when every external clinician I worked with at Thrive quit because the director wouldn’t sign their contracts or acknowledge their emails. The same leadership often wouldn’t respond to my questions or emails either, but would pester me constantly in my off-work hours when they wanted something. It was a test, I feel, to see if they said “jump” to have me ask “how high”. But if I needed something from a director, HR, or CEO? Crickets. 

Who I most feel for are the patients in the program I oversaw. They deserve better than what they got. 



PSW job is very labour intensive. Not enough time between morning care and breakfast to get everyone up and showered in time. Most of the time we are running late for breakfast. More job perks are definitely for the nurses (RPNS and RNS). Pay for PSWs is not the greatest, even with the $3 government incentive, which isn't permanent. Staffing department doesn't communicate with one another so schedules and pay are being missed or not inputted into the computer properly. Management definitely has it's favourite people, thats for sure. Some days there are more agency/outside PSWs than the companies PSWs itself. The same company has one home making more money than the other for all the jobs! Management talks to you like you are incompetent and don't know how to do the job YOU are trained and qualified to do. Management gives you a hard time about taking vacation/days off for medical appts/calling in with an emergency, etc. They'll deny it because "we are short staffed" but yet when people who are qualified to come for the job don't get hired. 

Agree with all of the negative and toxic culture despite their billboards they don’t put their money where their mouth is and they foster a competitive, non supportive environment where politics not ethics run the culture.  Many of the people were great, just no real leadership and it’s dangerous to raise your hand.  Can’t trust senior leadership or Human Resources as they appear to lead and foster this culture.  Great place to get junior experience and take your experience and go elsewhere for more money as the wages are on the low end of the scale.  

If you want a stressful, backstabbing environment, this is the place for you.  They seemed to keep and promote these people and the good and great run screaming from the building.  This is evidenced by the leaders and company turnover in general and in my own time there, I saw many decent good people leave.  

They preach about their culture incessantly and don’t hold C suite or their leadership accountable to it.  Run don’t walk.  They consider this feedback from prior employees sour grapes from people that had issues but there seem to be an awful lot of us with similar opinions.  

I work in food service as a casual employee. I have not yet worked at this company for a year and they have changed how they schedule employees about 6 times since I've started, with each change making it more difficult to actually pick up shifts. The entire staffing department makes simple things overly complicated and somehow can't keep things straight (I have been double booked and had shifts cancelled over 5 times in less than a year as well). As well, my department manager is often combative (i.e. confrontational instead of curious) and hypocritical (i.e. enforces uniform policy with some employees and not others while also not adhering themselves). 

Challenges in the Healthcare sector are experienced in all companies and homes throughout the region. Thrive Group takes the challenge seriously and provides it's managers the tools to manage the best they can. I saw from the beginning of my employment, support and compassion to both the teams and the clients they were responsible for. I would not hesitate to work for Thrive again in the future. My choice to seek other employment was due to my relationship with my employer, a contractor to the Thrive Group, and their lack of attention to their employees. The contractor could have learned from the example St Peters and the Thrive Group set in the standards and expectations identified in the Thrive Group Mission Statement.

I worked for St. Peters at chedoke and the main thing that kept me there was how well they treated the residents. I never once felt like I needed to rush and not do mouth care, or that I didn't have time to toilet everyone, or that a shower was a burden. If you are a PSW because you love your job and your residents St. peters if a great place to work. I also always felt like my opinion was respected which does not happen at many care facilities if you are a PSW. The Typical issues with a PSW job exists here, not enough hours, not enough pay, hard work, burn out etc. But honestly after working for other LTC homes even though I make more money now, some days I have thought about begging for my job back.

I used to work at Queenston Heights and l loved it! The staff, manager and clients were awesome! Would do anything to work there again!!  I can no longer work as a PSW due to a medical issue but always look at the administrative positions as I have retrained as a Medical Office Assistant. I completed my internship at Idlewyld Manor and again enjoyed my experience!

The managment at thrive is amazing, the CEO is one of the most down to earth people I have ever met. He treats everyone fairly and with respect! His support staff are equally amazing and make your experience there incredible!
