If you can get your foot in the door and land a permanent position within the school board you're basically set.  

It is a great place to work, very stable job, co workers are wonderful and supportive and the school environments are positive, educational, happy and safe spaces for children to grow and learn in, which in turn makes for a great place to spend your work days.

The main downside as of late, mainly post-pandemic, is there is a severe understaffing of specific support staff such as SSP's for high needs students, etc.  Which is putting a strain on resources and is leading to lower level, untrained and underpaid staff such as lunch supervisors and ECE's being thrown in place to try and fill the void, so to speak.  Which is not helping the high need children at all, and then leaves a void in other areas.

Wages are also not the greatest, strikes are frequent, etc.



What is the best part of working at the company?
Training and meeting new people. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not having enough support staff when needed. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Most are pretty good depending on what school you’re at. The superintendents listen to staff and take their suggestions seriously. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Quite busy as I work with children that are special needs and I may have to deal with behaviours.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Working with the students is the only redeeming factor. Coworkers can be great as well.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Short staffed, admin is out of touch. Board seems to care very little about employees

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Depends on where and who you work with. Some environments are very toxic and some are good.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very busy, lots of work for little pay. Sometimes missing breaks and lunch.

when you are a support staff at this school board you mean nothing to them. you wont be paid have of what your worth. 

toxic work environment you are constantly not listened to and treated like dirt. Principals talk down at you, insult you and at the end of the day upper management isn't much better.



As an SSP I strongly advise you to seek employment else where. Your pay is awful and you can barely make ends meet. No raises, advancement opportunities or appreciation. Understaffed 90% of the time and a high burnout rate. 

My non teaching position pays the professionals minimum wage. Good luck being able to pay for a roof over your head, utilities and food if your by yourself. Employees are nice and you will definitely make some friends! 

Great place to work if you are permanent full time. Limited benefit for those who work as supplies, especially in a supportive role. Fair wages for day to day supply work but no change when on contract; very little benefit to taking on a contract.

Loved my time spent working for TBCDSB. Good training, nice salary, excellent benefits, overall a very positive organization. Very accommodating, 2 sick days per month, summers off, plus March break and 2 weeks at Christmas!

Good people.
