TigerDirect

the store i worked in was great, the people were always cheerful and positive, hardly and conflicts within the staff. 

the managment was very laid back and while that can be good at times it proved to be trouble when sales reps or other staff members needed assistance with difficult customers. 

i would say the job in itself did not have any tasks i would deem hard, they were more tedious and repetitive, an example of this would be processing RMA (return merchandise approval). th company required us to contact a representative from tiger directs HQ and obtain approval from them to begin the RMA process, this could take weeks to months depending on the product in question. Following the approval we would then begin to contact the manufacturer to gain confirmation and shipping information, this would sometimes lead to the manufacturer denying our claim due to contracts our product managers agreed to in order to get lower costs on the product. 

i would say the most enjoyable aspect of working for tiger direct was the people i got to meet both customers and co-workers, the discounts on the products weren't bad either.

A typical day at work is cold-calling or prospecting clients in the morning, selling in the afternoon, building call list before going home.

Tiger Direct is so poorly run at the back end, that sales agents become swamped with customer service work (returns, collections, product substitution, etc.) and yet, we are not encouraged to do any of this work at all.

Management constantly threatened us with firings, loss of privileges, etc.

To survive, you really had to just do as they said, in the time you had. I found that by learning the system, and being very honest with my clients, I gained their trust and did ok. But our pricing and delivery times are so crummy that even if they liked my service, they were making a sacrifice by choosing Tiger Direct.

The co-workers were pretty fun, and the coaches were very smart and very dedicated...but underpaid and a little bitter.

My co-workers and customers were the best part of the job, we constantly bounced questions and information off each other.

The managers were tough but fair about us meeting our sales goals  and pushed to keep us motivated while informing us about upcoming promotions. 

Keeping on top of all the new information, whether it would be new methods of selling or the products we were selling was the most difficult thing to keep up with because of the sheer amount of changes that would happen every year. 

Most days consisted of checking our work email for updates and sales, along with any correspondence, walking the sales floor and helping as many customers as possible was the biggest portion of the day.

A typical day would involve organizing the workloads left over and those coming in while juggling inbound calls that generally centered on inquiry and matter resolutions. 

As the company downsized, I would be given more and more added responsibility. It got to the point where I handled two full time positions at once and did so for 6 months or more. It was very challenge and presented no further gains on my end beyond minor recognition of getting both jobs done. This aspect of work was the down side, the positive was the people and product. I enjoyed the people greatly which made the work environment a great place and the product was one which I enjoyed learning about and using.

The culture at this company is fantastic. Very friendly and humorous. 

You are given some accounts to start and you are expected to build an account base through over the phone prospecting. When old reps leave, their accounts are distributed to the newer reps which helps the building process. Management will give you leads if you ask for them or as a reward for good sales. 

There is potential to make a decent amount money at this job but it will definitely take a couple years to get to that level. Quotas are based on performance so you will not be expected to achieve a quota you haven't already achieved.

Tiger Direct is a great place for a sales job because sales make the most money due to being mainly commission based but the other jobs are a set wage and they expect you to do a bit of everything for a small amount of pay. Also as sales are just expected to sell so, if you love selling it's a good job. Co-workers are all great and for most part I think due to the where things are going electronic stores and computer stores are no longer becoming profitable and that transfers into employees getting squeezed at work which may be one of the major down falls for Tiger Direct.

Management has unreasonable expectations of you when you first start, they ACT (although they say otherwise) like they expect you to already know about all the products in the store. If you don't, they want you to have learned it all in a week or two so you can work independently. You're supposed to absorb information about all the products through osmosis, just by standing there. Take heed - only work at Tiger Direct if you already have a passion for technology or you're willing to research all these products in your spare time, because management couldn't care any less about you.

TigerDirect was an alright place to work, for a time.  Their full commission method of pay was fun and surprisingly rewarding.  Unfortunately, that was the one and only selling point of the company, as they all but forced employees to sell literal malware to customers, or be fired.  Management was not above breaking employment law and making routine threats - and not just about job security.  But decisions like these are why they've lost most of their brick and mortar stores, including all of their stores in Canada.

Working at TigerDirect would be nice except for the fact that management has no idea of what they are doing. All they want you to do is sell and they make you badger the customers by trying to sell them anything that we possibly can, even if the customer says they don't need help the managers still make you go and ask if they need help over and over again to the point where the customer gets so annoyed that they just leave the store. Co-workers are nice and it would be a great place to work if it wast for the management team.

TigerDirect.ca headquarters in Richmond Hill Ontario is home to 20+ B2B sales consultants/channel executives.  Working here is relaxed, easy going - however it can be stressful at times.  Remuneration is sub industry-standards.  Developing relationships with clients is driven by the ability to deliver highly competitive pricing which can be difficult at times.
