A typical day includes a lot of the typical fab shop work. Welding, grinding, etc. 

I learned how to successfully weld a full penetration weld every time with FCAW. I think I  mastered the abilities they required for that particular job. I also learned how to repair rework a lot of different things in my time there. 

In terms of management, nobody ever seems to know what's going on out on the floor. We have an in house engineering department that cant seem to figure out how to work with the fab shop. a lot of time and money is wasted by building machinery and painting it only to turn around and grind it all off and rework the parts to deal with engineering hiccups. 

Co-workers...it seems the more seniority you have the less work you actually have to do. of the 3 highest guys on the list, I'm sure their combined bathroom visits equals out to be about 25 hours per week. Some only work 5 hrs of a shift and sit with their feet up the rest of the day,

The hardest part of the job at Timberland is dealing with the lack of work. It goes in waves where you can be swamped one week and sweeping the floor the next 3. The weld shop supervisor can be your best friend one minute and worst enemy the next. He cant seem to find a balance. 

The best part of the job is the pay. They pay extremely well.

As I progress within my role and am always learning new things about the company and how things work.  Management seems open to my questions and are willing to work with you to make your role more efficient and effective.  In my short time here I have noticed that Timberland likes to celebrate their employee's successes which is a welcome change for me!  I am always greeted with a hi or hello no matter which department I walk through each day and a quick chat about how things are going is always there. 
After moving from a smaller size company over to Timberland I am pleasantly surprised at how much management knows about each individual working here. You aren't made to feel like just someone that works there but a unique individual.  
I have a unique opportunity to work with almost all departments within Timberland and in doing so I am able to see their own individual ways of managing the day to day operations and it seems to work well.  There is a good mix of employees that have just started to those who have worked their way around to different departments and positions.  This shows me that people enjoy working here and that Timberland gives you room to grow which is important to me.

I came to Timberland from a competitor organization while completing my co-op engineering training at university.  This competitor company engineered and manufactured similar heavy winching  equipment to Timberland's products and I was directed by my previous employer to consider trying to get a job working for Timberland because it would be "an opportunity to learn a lot."  Timberland's unique highly specialized engineered equipment allows mechanical and electrical engineers to fully develop and utilize their craft by developing designs and participating in large projects to an extent which is unparalleled by other manufacturing organizations. 
Although I later left Timberland to pursue opportunities in the Automotive industry, I returned in 2007 to complete my career here because of the company's  history and reputation as an industry leader.

Management wants puppets, no team work, or relationships possible here. The man in charge is toxic and everyone is miserable. Mostly fresh out of college boys with big attitudes and no skills. The shop has a constant revolving door with the drug addicts having union seniority.  The office is a dump with one run down washroom for the whole office. The factory has junk for equipment. No loyalty, respect for any employee from management. Pay is ok, just do not expect it to be long-term or a pleasant place to work, depressing workplace.

Timberland has a great team with a can-do attitude. As we work with custom design equipment there's always something new going on. I had the opportunity to work for various customers from different industries. It's nice to spend my day doing real engineering work and not working on spreadsheets all day. NO meetings that should have been an e-mail!

very unorganized.  management couldn't tie their shoes without instructions. they seem to have their little group who thinks they know everything and no one else knows anything.  no one seems to know what is going on there. money was ok but would not recommend it to anyone who wants to excel. company is struggling financially.

The advantage of working for a custom engineered company is that almost every project has a different problem that you have to learn how to solve different. It makes the days go by quickly and you're always learning new skills and thinking of different ways to problem solve.

Not much growth opportunities. 
Lots of unhappy employees.
Little communication to employees regarding business volumes leaves you stressed about layoffs. 


Hard to find a place to work that you can make great money to pay the bills and feed my family.  Timberland has opportunities to advance in different positions.

Management is only interested in getting the product out the door by the deadline. Most of the time, the Product is sent out incomplete and not working correctly.  Management wants their commission.
