Tiny Hoppers Early Learning Centre

My interview? "Can you be here every day for 7?"  That was IT. No questions about me experience, why I wanted to work for the company, nothing about me, zilch. My first thought was "If my child were here I would want more screening for educators."

The staff there were all young with no educational or working background working with children, which was evident when they failed to count the children on field trips, said the children's faces were "gross" if they had food on them or needed a tissue and made outrageously racist remarks towards them. They would stand around talking about which kids were cute and which they couldn't stand IN FRONT OF THE CHILDREN.  When I pointed out concerns they ostracized me. They did not like being advised about how they should model positive behaviour and language in front of the children. I was only trying to look out for the safety and security of the children. 

They give you an impossible amount of work to complete DURING YOUR BREAK (which is illegal!) or during the time you should be helping the children fall asleep. One day a child fell  and hit their head because they were jumping on their bed and the educator didn't see them because they were busy sweeping and mopping when they are supposed to be attending to the children! They ignored ratios frequently so that "friends" could go on break together. 1 educator in a room with 24 children and they are too busy doing cleaning and writing in journals to see one fall off their bed! The music was so loud she didn't even hear her wailing... luckily the chef walked by and saw her on the ground!

There were several children there who needed more support and each time I tried to sit down with the coordinator to try and discuss plans to support these children I was waved away and told "we don't have a budget for that". I did some research and discovered some grants we could apply for to assist but no, they weren't interested. They preferred putting children in a "time out chair". Horrible. I could not believe how much the coordinator gossiped about the parents, either. 

The hours were too long (10, 11 our days) the pay was too low, and the programming was "one size fits all". They did not embrace emergent or play-based learning. Every month educators are sent information packages of what they are supposed to teach, even if some children were not at that developmental level. 

I was also horrified to learn that they had been trying to get rid of hand foot and mouth disease for SIX MONTHS. When I asked how often they disinfected toys and so on the other educators had no idea what I was talking about.

The food served is incredibly unhealthy as well. Greasy, carb heavy and full of sugar. 

Please apply elsewhere and if you know anyone whose children attend one of these daycares advise them to go to a NOT FOR PROFIT daycare. These for-profits are so terrible and only about money.

A typical day at Tiny Hoppers Kingston East is well-structured and rewarding. The day starts with engaging activities for children, fostering their development in a fun and safe atmosphere. I learned valuable skills in early childhood education, communication, and teamwork, which have been instrumental in my professional growth.

The management is supportive, approachable, and always ready to guide and assist staff. The workplace culture is inclusive, positive, and collaborative, creating a strong sense of community among staff and families.

The hardest part of the job is balancing the individual needs of every child, but it is also the most rewarding when you see their growth and happiness. The most enjoyable part of the job is witnessing the children’s joy and accomplishments each day, knowing you made a meaningful impact.

I will say at first it seemed friendly. What I noticed was that there was a continuous amount of people leaving do to unfair expectations and treatment amongst the employees. This place overall could use a lot of work on compensating employees and not overworking them to the point of exhaustion. If you’re interested in working here, just be aware that there may be unfair treatment and to not trust certain employees around, being as they are prone to ruin your reputation and make up false accusations. Management only cares for the image of the daycare to make profit rather than the wellbeing of the children. When addressing concerns, they are often dismissive. Also never bothered asking for references when interviewing for the job. One must ask why that is. Also expect you to work overtime to create different activities without pay. I would strongly recommend not to work here. If you do, don’t stay long. You’re better off working for an agency than this center.

Working at Tiny Hoppers South Surrey has been an incredibly rewarding experience. I have received strong support from a dedicated and collaborative team who share a common goal of advancing early childhood education. One of the aspects I’ve appreciated most is the high degree of autonomy I’ve been given in designing activities. This freedom has allowed me to bring my educational philosophy to life and turn ideas into meaningful practice.

The environment is warm and encouraging — my colleagues are not only professional but also genuinely kind and supportive. Being part of such a positive workplace has contributed greatly to my personal and professional growth. I’ve learned, grown, and felt empowered every step of the way.

This job can be challenging as any job with young children can be. The perks of working with children is hearing their silly stories and creating a bond with the kids. On a typical day I would do bathrooms/diapers, run circle time, take children outside for play, supervise inside play, and administer snacks and lunch. This job requires the ability to multi task and an incredible amount of patience. I have really enjoyed working here as the management is very understanding and flexible in order to work around your schedule such such as appointments or school. Overall, a great place to work if you have a passion for working with kids.

A typical day would be having fun with the kids, playing games, making sure they have their snacks and lunch.
I learned that dealing with young children definitely takes a lot of patience and helps you grow up because you have young lives in your hands. 
The management is good.
My co-workers are really friendly and helpful in certain situations.
The hardest part of my job is when a child is being very uncooperative and having to stay patient and try not to be too intimidating.
The most enjoyable part of my job is seeing the smiles on the children's faces and knowing I'm the cause of them, well some of them.

great coworkers and children — very long shifts and a lot of duties beyond child care. If you work as a teachers assistant, you’ll be doing just as much work as the teachers, if not more, for much less pay. There are also many expectations that can become overwhelming, especially in the preschool rooms. There is a lot of pressure to come in when you are sick so long as you test negative. To put it in perspective, not many people last past 3 months here. 

A good place for those who want work short term, however it’s very gossip oriented, favouritism is a huge contributor to success. The meetings leave your soul crushed as they glaze over the improvements/successes and focus on any points where you’ve fallen short. The toys are -400 level boring and half of them are broken, leading to underwhelmed wandering children. Suggestions you make will take 80-100 business days to be dealt with, and specifically faster if you’re a favourite. Keep your head down and this job will suit you fine 

Tiny Hoppers Daycare is an awesome place to work, the responsibilities aren't too hard and its fun, because if you're energetic then the children that are dropped off at the daycare will adore you because you're willing to play with them. The owner is the absolute best, she is really funny and is amazing with kids. when sanctum comes around everything really quiet but that doesn't mean that you get a break, it just means that you can catch your breath before you have to take the children to the park to play around for a bit.

When i first got hired i really enjoyed the management. However, i found there was moments she was unprofessional. I decided to leave while we were having a high turnover. The owners a husband was not happy about that. He proceeded to come into the classroom during nap time while i was working to yell at me in front of children and staff. I left upset. When i came back to finish my shift, the owner never apologized instead i was gaslit the entire last few days of my shift. I also had a hard time contacting HR about the incident. Worst place to work. They only care about the income and not their staff.
