I have worked with this company at the Chilliwack location for about 2 months and I absolutely hated it. So much to learn/do for just $16 an hour. The commission is pretty much non existent and pay is pretty disappointing for the amount of work you put in. Sure, it can be slow paced at times, but the amount of information that you have to implant in your head is just too much for minimum wage. The people you work with are fantastic, I have had great relationships with all of them. The manager that I have worked with does have trust issues, and she seemed to not trust me when I first started working with the company. I didn't really call in that much but whenever I did, I would always get a "you have to come in today, just take some medicine" response from the manager. There was a time when I actually threw up in front of the manager and she denied the request I put in to go home because I wasn't feeling well. For me to stay with the company for long periods of time, I would want a manager to trust me and to care about me so that just wasn't there for me. In addition, everything else was great! Workers were nice and welcoming, and the work experience you gain is pretty nice. But everything else like pay, commission, work hours, and the trust issues with the boss is what I really didn't like about this company. I would recommend working here if you are going to school and just need a job for the extra cash. Other than that, I wouldn't recommend anyone ever work here as a full time employee.

There is high management turnover in this city as well as high turnover for employees, which was commented on by many long-time clients of this business. Pay is good but the structure keeps changing and targets are becoming more stressful to reach. 
Hours are long and only one half hour break is provided for a meal in an 8.5 hour day. 

The hardest part of the job is that with few employees in the store, we are expected to not only hit top targets each month but also do a lot of administrative tasks that one would think the manager should be doing. The added stress of all this together makes for quick burnout. 
If one isn't skilled in separating work/life then it's very easy for this job to take over your free time as well due to the personal nature of your connection with clients. 

If you're able to handle all that, though, you can easily become a Senior Sales representative with a good record of hitting your top targets, and there is a lot of support from the management team to advance if you take the initiative to reach out. 

There's also a support team in the form of a chat group with other stores so that if you or your coworkers are having trouble with something, you can reach out and crowdsource which was a really nice aspect of the job. The community and culture of the company was a pleasant part of the work experience.

I have been with this company for nearly 8 years and have worked in several locations. I have had the pleasure of learning from some of the brightest and most competent people in the industry. 
  Tom Harris Cellular pays on performance. You work hard and you get rewarded for your efforts. I won my first trip in less than 6 months of working here. Since then I have won several more trips and LOTS of other prizes. 
  They have a very good management training program which you should try to get into even if your long term goals are focused elsewhere. 
  They really stress the "growth of their people." So if you want to move up they will certainly help you. You're not just a number in this company. I personally know every executive manager on a first name basis. 
 They do expect a lot out of their employees but I expect a lot out of myself. Therefore I have no problem with that. It's a fun work culture. With a young and positive spirit. 
  I have worked for quite a few multi-national companies and even made a lot more money with other companies but never had a better work environment. 
  Management is open minded and easy to get a hold of.  The company is always willing to listen to your suggestions. If they make sense for the business, they will implement them.

I'll start by saying the co-workers and manager at my location were amazing, some of the best people I've worked with.

Early January of 2024 I had to take medical leave for heart surgery/recover. I was out for about 6 months and in that time they had hired someone to help fill. Nothing wrong with that. However, I came back to work for roughly a month and then we were hit with lay-offs. I get it, companies have to do it sometimes, no ill will. However, they decided to lay off either my co-worker or myself (ended up being me) instead of the new hire that had only been there within a couple months  as opposed to us having been there over the year mark. They weren't even out of probation yet.

I have nothing against the new hire but what is the point in laying off employees who already have great knowledge of the industry and proven sales as opposed to the new hire. The reason I was given to the lay-offs was purely monetary, they couldn't sustain the location and pay X amount of staff at the same time. Since that was the reason given, it wasn't my work ethic,  sales, or anything wrong with me (I was even on track for a Team-Lead position).

They are a business and can hire/fire as they please. However, I can only assume they do not care for employee loyalty and as such, you should not give it to them.

I liked the job and people at first. However 18 months into my job I was pressured into taking a role I had no experience in. I was offered no training, no support, no guidance in the days and weeks after assuming the role. Despite my long history of exceeding my sales targets every month, the higher ups in the company formed a grudge as I was not well prepared for the job I was now doing (again no experience, no training, no guidance all of which they knew going in) and let me go from the company as a whole as soon as they find someone better qualified for the job I was pressured into. They do offer many incentives such as additional income, and trips but they lack the ability to develop employees. They are very heavy handed on growth, and people, and are very good at selling you on the company however working there I learned most of it is nothing more than empty promises. I was told to mislead customers and not tell the entire truth if it meant closing a sale. No raises will be offered no matter how good your performance is and they will turn on you in a second and fire you. You will have no chance to defend yourself. Stay far far far away. Turnover rate is very high.

Tom Harris is first and foremost a retail focused company. Working in their outbound sales department is an exercise in poor training, poor management, high pressure, and a pay structure which is not transparent. 

 You will sell phones, but not get paid for selling phones. You will sell 20K per month, but get paid for only 7K. You will be expected to make thousands of totally cold calls, and be expected to sell 25K-30K per month within 6 months, with NO residuals at all. 

You will be your own admin, warehousing, product pipeline, order filling, order taking, service dept., and of course sales dept. If you lose track of a phone, which is easy to do with their system, you buy it. 
If you're absolutely in love with wireless, you'll put up with this, but even still, it's a lousy job. 

My favorite line at Tom Harris:

"There's no money in cell phones."

This is their excuse for not paying reps for cell phone sales. I asked them how Apple and Samsung got to be among the most profitable companies in the world selling cell phones if there's no money in cell phone sales.

I have worked for this org for almost 2 years now and I can honestly say that the leadership and culture is great in relation to the my role. Any interaction that I have had with retail managers and associates has been positive and people seem to really care about the client experience. In a fiercely competitive market with shrinking margins Tom Harris continues to adapt and shift, positioning the value of it's strong sales team members, who in turn provide exceptional client experience. This business is not for the timid, or complacent, but for those who approach the job with tenacity, creativity and a desire to succeed.       

Job is minumum wage and provides a heavy work load. Tom Harris used to pay upwards of $22/hr pre-2020, but have steadily declined to an average around $18/hr in 2023. My position used to be a great job that I took a lot of pride in but the company has made it absolutely dreadful to even show up to work. The executive team is very out of touch, they have added a discount heli-travel package to employee benefits but pay employees less than $20/hr to name one example. They also keep adding new fee’s instead of simply increasing the price of what they are already selling, making it really difficult for staff to build sales relationships with customers. 

Left an extra star for the employee’s. The people working at Tom Harris are very kind and I have made great friends along the way. The staff acknowledge the situation the company is in, and most agree the executive team needs re-evaluation.

I would not recommend this job to a sales person as the commission just isn’t there. 

You're a glorified cashier trying to sell a $150 service to your customers while knowing full well that they'll get not only a better deal online, but it's easier as well.

The work environment has decreased in quality drastically in the last few months. Insufficient management, and underpaying those that do stay leads to stressed out management, which makes life harder for the lower associates. When a new manager isn't hired for the position, managerial duties were assigned to minimum wage workers, with the expectations of upholding their regular duties to the same degree on top of everything else. Manager's personal time is not respected, nor are any of their personal lives whatsoever, it's profit above all for the company, with constant price increases by the company executives, and you have to justify that to your loyal customers with no break in sight.

I would not recommend working here unless they get everything worked out like it was in earlier years.

Since starting with Tom Harris Cellular in October of 2020, I have always looked to advance my knowledge and they are as invested in me as I am them. They have Tons of opportunities for growth and they are constantly looking to help you grow not only as an employee but as a person. The culture is like one big family, Sounds cliche I know, when you arrive you are welcomed by everyone and get to know your coworkers who are near and far, creating memories and friendships that last decades. Being able to come to a friendly, competitive job every day, really brings the best out of people. I would highly recommend Tom Harris to anyone who is looking to further their abilities whether as sales people, customer service, management and so much more!
