Tom Wood Contracting

Tom Wood Contracting started off as Residential and has grown into Commercial project.  It is a good company to work for.


A typical day at work involves invoicing, expense reports, accounts payable and receivable, filing, answering calls and interacting with workers.  Not all days are typical as I have assisted with residential projects, supervised employees at the commercial work sites, and acted as the 1st Aid Attendant.  The most enjoyable part of the job is the final, successful completion of large projects and preparation for upcoming projects.

I came into this company with high hopes, hoping to pursue a career in carpentry work but was quickly disappointed by how poor the management and overall morale of the whole company were. On the first day, I realized how poor the communication and work ethic of the entire crew was—constant shouting from the boss and on-site harassment. The behavior of the management was mind-boggling and I have never been this deceived in my whole construction career. Overall I do not recommend working here if you are planning on pursuing a career in carpentry.

The construction industry has many factors that surface during the day. Because of the number of trades involved in the completion of the larger projects, there are more than just your own fellow workers to deal with on a regular basis. You have to be prepared to  deal with the different weather situations, from hot and dry to cold and snow or rain. The working environment can change without warning and you must be willing to accept and work with them.

The work is gureling with inadequte pay to come along with it and the poeple they hire for this company does not balance, the managments hiring process is insufficent as well making the work life in there insufferable. The gureling summer heats along with the brutal concrete forming outside was the hardest time I have ever had in my years of the trade. 

The worst experience I've ever had, they don't know how to act or communicate with their employees.
Particularly the lead hand uses vulgar language to pressure the workers. They typically assign the burden that is greater than what is specified in the job letter. They favour making individuals operate like machines. Never endorse anyone for employment here.

Explain how the statistics state that carpenter apprentices make more than journeyman carpenters. Some reviews seem very unbelievable and almost google translated. A whole lot of what is on display is meant to bait YOU into an unenjoyable work experience. A typical day at work is robotic to an extent that shouldn't be said. If you enjoy your sanity, I recommend staying away. 

Awesome working conditions, providing a paid coffee break along with benefits. Diverse work with lots of room for growth. Typical work day starts at 7 and ends at 3:15. Management is great and very understanding. Culture is accepting for a construction company and the guys you work with feel like family.

Expect nothing from here, under paid compared to literally every other competitor around regardless of your qualifications. Expect wretched phone calls from the goblin-like boss that you should really consider avoiding. Definitely expect long drives, they're not gonna bother to place you at logically distanced jobsites. 

The workplace is absolutely wretched and phone calls from the boss are the last thing I want to see at work. The crew was ok but as far as know nobody was happy with their wage and was always seeking a better employer. There are far better options out there especially for the sacrifices you make in a trades job

Working as  carpenter for Tom Wood Contracting was a positive experienced. They have a great crew that is good at what they do. Not a bunch meats heads. Great learning experience, formwork just not for me so I moved on.
