Toronto Employment and Social Services

Toronto Employment and Social Services gave me my first opportunity to work in an office environment, and a first hand look at the machinations that go on behind the scene that people normally don't see, and all the intricacies and layers of teamwork that come together within a grand organization. I learned many clerical and administrative duties and roles during my time there. The management was superb, as there was a good amount of managers as the head of their own teams, and they keep the gears well oiled. The workplace culture was relatively easy going and friendly, which helped offset the natural dreariness that come with working in public service office.

A very warm and friendly environment. The management team and co-workers were very patient and accommodating.  We worked very well as a team in delivering professional services.  In my opinion the hardest part of the job was having to say goodbye upon completion of my placement. The most enjoyable part was getting an overall understanding an experience working with the marginalized population and helping them in every way I could.  It was very satisfying for me to make a positive difference and assisting the residents  in every way I could.

Bureaucracy is absurd. We do things for statistics

Friendly, and respectful, for the most part. Occasional back stabbers 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Waiting for the day's end unless you work and are focused

A nice place to work with friendly staff, I learned how to manage case loads (50+), scheduling meetings with clients, discuss their file such as what services they needed i.e. return to school, pardon for criminal record, training, employment, etc., working with the clients in order for them to have a better or improved life.

I loved my entire time/experience there, wish it could go longer! Management was very supportive along with many of the staff, got to see things from another perspective, going in with one perception and leaving with a completely different one

A typical day at my current job involves providing ultimate customer service to clients facing vagarious challenges. Exercising active listening skills allows me the service plan with clients and aiding them on how to overcome the many challenges they may be facing.

My time at TESS lawrence west square mall was a great experience for me especially as a newcomer to Canada, because it helped me build my confidence  while learning how to work in a formal and organized setting.

Working for social services made me learn quite a lot. there are some resources that i never knew existed and getting hands on experience for my internship  position helped me a lot. i hope to work for the city of Toronto in the near future.
